The research analyzes how the amazonian rubber plantations and the amazonian rubber boom are told in the novel and in each one of its adaptations to the cinema, addressing also the relationship between the Literature and the Cinema based on the theoretical assumptions of the Comparative Literature and of the Conceptual Metaphor. Associated with the theoretical framework the following thematic axes: The history of amazon rubber boom and a panorama of the literature that represents it; Biobibliographical notes on Ferreira de Castro and the novel A Selva; The dialogue between the Literature and Cinema; Reflections on the metaphoric phenomenon. The Dissertation presents the following division: The chapter “The Amazonian rubber boom and its representation in literature fiction” discusses the historical period of the amazonian rubber boom, with a survey on the representation of this period in the literature and the region and study the novel A Selva, by Ferreira de Castro, exploring the several aspects of the amazon rubber plantations characterized in the work; The chapter “The novel A Selva: hell in Paradise” contains an overview of Ferreira de Castro’s novel, exploring details of the narrative; The chapter “Through the Meanderings of Comparative Literature” deals with Comparative Literature and the dialogues between Literature and Cinema, applied to A Selva; The chapter “A Selva – multiple views” analyzes the adaptations of Ferreira de Castro’s novel, drawing a comparative table between the three works and presenting the researcher's reading. / Estudo comparativo entre o romance A Selva, de Ferreira de Castro, e os dois filmes homônimos inspirados nessa obra: A Selva, do amazonense Márcio Souza, e A Selva, do português Leonel Vieira. A pesquisa analisa a forma como os seringais amazônicos e o ciclo da borracha são narrados no romance e em cada uma de suas adaptações para o cinema, abordando também as relações entre Literatura e Cinema, tomando por base os pressupostos teóricos da Literatura Comparada e da teoria da Metáfora Conceptual. Associados ao quadro teórico estão os seguintes eixos temáticos: a história do ciclo da borracha na Amazônia e o panorama da literatura que o representa; apontamentos biobibliográficos sobre Ferreira de Castro e o romance A Selva; diálogos entre a Literatura e o Cinema; reflexões sobre o fenômeno metafórico. A dissertação apresenta a seguinte divisão: o capítulo “O ciclo da borracha na Amazônia e sua representação na ficção literária” aborda o período histórico do ciclo da borracha na Amazônia, com um levantamento sobre a representação desse período na literatura da e sobre a região e realiza uma leitura do romance A selva, de Ferreira de Castro, explorando os diversos aspectos dos seringais amazônicos retratados na obra; o capítulo “A Selva: o inferno no Paraíso” contém uma visão geral sobre o romance de Ferreira de Castro, explorando pormenores da narrativa; o capítulo “Pelos meandros da Literatura Comparada” trata da literatura comparada e dos diálogos entre a literatura e o cinema, aplicados a A Selva; e o capítulo “A Selva: múltiplos olhares” analisa as adaptações do romance de Ferreira de Castro, elaborando um quadro comparativo entre as três obras e apresentando a leitura da pesquisadora.
