_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / Of the fictional works of the Paulista writer, Hilda Hilst (1903 -2004), the short stories “Lázaro” (1970) and “Rútilo Nada” (1993) appear as emblematic narratives, gathering the main characteristics of her prose assemblage not only in the field of the structural complexity but also in the fictional crop of the issues which converse with the Christian imaginary and with themes associated with God, Time, Death, bearing, yet, the fundamental elements of her literary universe – the abandonment, loneliness and the urge for the sublime and the transcendence, conjugated into the realm of the low instincts, slithering into the obscene, torpid, vile, and abject. By means of inter-textual clues, we analyze, on this dissertation, how Hilda Hilst summons out and re-elaborates, in the light of contemporaneousness, symbols that are present in the works of the religious tradition, as in the Bible and The Divine Comedy, pointing at a reflection on the holy and the ways the contemporary man is placed in a desecrated world.
