Automatic geometric modeling of spatial mechanism linksPennington, Sandra Lynn January 1986 (has links)
This thesis introduces GENMOD, a collection of subroutines which allow automatic geometric modeling of 3-D models for spatial links or linkages given a minimum amount of information as input. The subroutines utilize the CADCD (CADAM, Inc.) geometry interface software to enter 3-D data directly into the CAD/CAM database. Wire-frame and surface models are produced. Input is accepted from user created files with a standardized format allowing the GENMOD subroutines to be implemented regardless of the synthesis and analysis routines used. The realistic visualization of a mechanism during the synthesis and analysis process can help the mechanism designer to eliminate unacceptable linkage configurations in the early design stages thereby saving time and money. A complete description of the subroutines is provided in addition to sample graphic output. / M.S.

The purpose of this work is to create a software package for the computer aided design of the RCCC spatial mechanism.
The RCCC mechanism has been synthesized for three precision positions and the solutions have been obtained in closed form. Besides analysis and synthesis, various other mechanism considerations like mobility, branching, order problems, link-length ratio, and fixed pivot location have been discussed. A program for the type determination of the resulting RCCC mechanism is also included. In addition to the above material, application of the theory and use of the programs is explained by means of examples. In conclusion, recommendations are made for further improvement and enhancement of the software package.
The theory used as a basis for writing the programs is in part original and in part derived from current and past mechanism literature. / M.S.

Advanced spatial information processes: modeling and applicationZhang, Mingchuan January 1985 (has links)
Making full use of spatial information is an important problem in information-processing and decision making. In this dissertation, two Bayesian decision theoretic frameworks for context classification are developed which make full use of spatial information. The first framework is a new multispectral image context classification technique which is based on a recursive algorithm for optimal estimation of the state of a two-dimensional discrete Markov Random Field (MRF). The implementation of the recursive algorithm is a form of dynamic programming. The second framework is based on a stochastic relaxation algorithm and Markov-Gibbs Random Fields. The relaxation algorithm constitutes an optimization using annealing. We also discuss how to estimate the Markov Random Field Model parameters, which is a key problem in using MRF in image processing and pattern recognition. The estimation of transition probabilities in a 2-D MRF is converted into two 1-D estimation problems. Then a Space-varying estimation method for transition probabilities is discussed. / Ph. D.

The project draws from the legacy of mat buildings, employing a dense unit-based framework that is both rationally systematic and embedded with pockets of productively discontinuous eccentric spaces. These auxiliary learning spaces expand education beyond the generic classroom and into an interconnected spatial sequence.
Graphic and spatial techniques of jitter, shift, and overprinting reveal, generate, and reinforce moments of internal eccentricity, embuing an internal urbanity to the school and allowing the city to penetrate the institution.
By engaging longstanding disciplinary efforts to design learning environments suitable to our time, this thesis confronts today’s electronic delivery methods and emphasis on efficient standardization, asserting that spatial, graphic, and urban play (the slightly off, odd, and peculiar in the face of standardization) is the avenue through which Architecture can exercise innovative and dynamic design, moving beyond the banal mediocrity of design for specialized efficiency’s sake.
