A high-resolution infra-red Ebert spectrometerCobb, Roland William January 1961 (has links)
A high resolution vacuum Ebert spectrometer was built at the University of British Columbia. In order to determine the capabilities of this instrument for further experimental work, an investigation of the characteristics of the spectrometer is presented.
The resolution considerations are analysed and resolution measurements are reported. A resolution of about 25,000 ( λ/Δλ) at 1.8μ in the first order was measured. The problem of insufficient light intensity is considered.
Details are given of two methods of imaging the light from the exit slit onto the detector. A method of calibration and alignment is described.
The use of the spectrometer for absorption measurements is emphasized. Several modifications useful for such measurements are suggested. / Science, Faculty of / Physics and Astronomy, Department of / Graduate
