Phonation onset and offset are important aspects of singing and speech. Their execution requires control of timing and coordination of complex vocal fold kinematics, glottal configuration, laryngeal muscular adjustments, and respiration. The purpose of this study was to examine effects of timing and coordination of vocal fold adductory and abductory movements on vocal fold vibratory behavior from offset to onset in a series of repeated phonation gestures, using high-speed digital imaging. Of particular interest were differences in vocal fold adductory positioning for slower and faster tempi; patterns of oscillation during onset and offset for the different tempi, and effects of onset and offset timing events on subsequent vibratory patterns. Method: 11 subjects, all classically trained, experienced professional singers, were videoendoscopically recorded singing a series of repeated notes at two different tempi, using high-speed digital imaging. Vocal fold adductory positioning was measured in terms of relative glottal width during onset in slower and faster tempi. Vocal fold vibratory behavior was measured in timing of offset and onset “events,” number, spacing, and timing of PPOs and pSSOs. Results: Relative glottal widths were significantly smaller for the faster tempo, supporting a hypothesis that vocal agility requires closer vocal fold approximation before onset. Significant differences were found in offset vs. onset timings and numbers of prephonatory and post-steady-state oscillations, supporting a theory of oscillation hysteresis.

I conducted 2 experiments investigating the relations between speaker-as-own-listener cusps and responding to bidirectional or reverse intraverbals. Speaker-as-own-listener cusps include, Naming, Say-Do Correspondence and Self-Talk Fantasy Play. During a pilot experiment, I found the source of the problem in 2 participants’ learning was their deficient speaker-as-own-listener repertoires. Although both participants in the pilot study had the Full Naming capability in repertoire, they lacked Say-Do and Self-Talk. Following a Self-Talk Immersion intervention, Say-Do was induced for both participants and coincidentally, correct responses to bidirectional or reverse intraverbals emerged. In Experiment I, I continued examining relations between the speaker-as-own-listener (SOL) repertoire and intraverbal responding with a statistical analysis of 35 Early Intervention (EI) and Preschool students recruited from CABAS® model schools who functioned at listener and speaker levels of verbal behavior. Findings from Experiment I indicated that the presence of Say-Do Correspondence and Self-Talk were significantly correlated to correct responses to reverse intraverbals. Experiment II was a functional analysis, during which 4 participants were selected from an EI classroom due to their similar levels of verbal behavior, deficient SOL repertoire, and because they could not respond to reverse intraverbals. Results indicated a functional relation between the presence of Say-Do Correspondence and Self-Talk and correct responses to intraverbal probes for all 4 participants.

Esse trabalho de pesquisa busca promover uma reflexão sobre a clínica psicológica e suas repercussões como um lugar de abertura a um falar criador de sentido, partindo da experiência de sujeitos usuários. Compreendendo que há uma especificidade da linguagem no espaço da clínica psicológica, acredita-se que esse trabalho possibilite uma maior clareza quanto à propriedade, singularidade e importância da fala na clínica, além de levar a reflexões e discussões quanto à temática, tanto à academia quanto aos campos de atividade do psicólogo. O desenvolvimento proposto restringe-se à clínica em sua modalidade de psicoterapia, a fim de refletir acerca da linguagem expressa na narrativa do indivíduo. A escuta das experiências de clientes que buscaram serviços psicoterápicos se deu a partir de uma pergunta disparadora/provocadora, e a compreensão de suas narrativas teve como suporte a metodologia fenomenológica existencial de investigação. As discussões tornaram-se possíveis a partir de afetações e reflexões entre relatos e pesquisadora, bem como de diálogos com autores que transitam pelo tema. / This work intends to promote a reflection about the psychological clinic and its repercussions as a place of opening to a creative speech of direction, starting from the experience of users. Understanding that it has a particularity of the language in the space of the psychological clinic, one believes that this work makes possible a better clarity as to the propriety, singularity and importance of speech in the clinic, besides taking the reflections and discussions about the thematic, as much to the academy as the fields of activity of the psychologist. The research restricts the clinic in its modality of psycotherapy, in order to reflect concerning the language in the narrative of the user. The listening of the experiences of clients who searched for psychotherapy assistance was induced by a triggering/provoking question, and the understanding of their narratives had as a support the existential phenomenological investigative methodology. The discussions became possible from affectations and reflections between testimonies and researcher, as well as from dialogues with authors who deal with the subject.

With this objective in mind, our corpus is composed by 6 Sentimental Counseling published by the Minister on Youtube. After the corpus transcription this paper describes the discursive organization and interprets the data based on the theoretical framework related to the study of argumentation based on the tripod logos, ethos and pathos, and in studies of genres. In this analysis, Amossy (2011), Charaudeau (2007, 2010, 2011), Perelman (1996), Maingueneau (2011) were used, among other authors. Through logos analysis we noticed that Sarah Sheeva uses many logical arguments in her discourse construction. Regarding the dimension of ethos in Counseling, it was found that the main ethos related to the image of Sarah Sheeva were of virtue, solidarity and credibility and that ethos related to the image of the Minister are built not only on her speech , but also on her way of dressing and behaving. Concerning the analysis of pathos, Sarah Sheeva‟s argumentation is built not only from logic, but also on the emotional, as she tries to articulate emotion and reason with the primary purpose of counseling, which would be maintaining people that already follow her and capture the faithful ones who have not yet shared her precepts. Finally, by analyzing the imaginary socio-discursive on women, we find that in Sarah Sheeva‟s speech there is a traditional point of view that condemns female liberty, which women have conquered over the years. / Pretendeu-se, através deste trabalho, analisar como o ethos, o pathos e o logos foram utilizados no discurso religioso da pastora Sarah Sheeva, tendo em vista sua intenção de buscar a adesão de novos fiéis e de manter os que já fazem parte da comunidade religiosa. Com esse objetivo, nosso corpus se constitui de 6 Aconselhamentos Sentimentais publicados pela pastora no Youtube. Na sequência, optamos por, após a transcrição, descrever a organização discursiva e interpretar os dados com base no arcabouço teórico referente aos estudos da argumentação, baseados no tripé logos, ethos e pathos; e também nos estudos sobre gêneros. Utilizamos, na análise, Amossy (2011), Charaudeau (2007, 2010, 2011), Perelman (1996), Maingueneau (2011), entre outros autores. Através da análise do logos, percebemos que Sarah Sheeva utiliza diversos argumentos lógicos na construção do seu discurso. No que se refere à dimensão do ethos nos Aconselhamentos, constatamos que os principais ethos relacionados à imagem de Sarah Sheeva foram o de virtude, solidariedade e credibilidade e que os ethos relacionados à imagem da pastora são construídos não só pelo seu discurso, mas também pela sua forma de se vestir e de se comportar. Concernente à análise do pathos, temos que a argumentação de Sarah Sheeva é construída não só a partir de uma lógica, mas também pautada no emocional, e que ela intenta articular a razão e a emoção com a principal finalidade dos aconselhamentos, que seria manter os sujeitos que já a seguem e captar os fiéis que ainda não compartilham dos seus preceitos. Por fim, através da análise dos imaginários sociodiscursivos sobre a mulher, constatamos que há no discurso de Sarah Sheeva a reprodução de um ponto de vista tradicional que condena a liberdade feminina, duramente conquistada ao longo dos anos.
