A Monte Carlo study of the robustness of the standard deviation of the sample correlation coefficient to the assumption of normality

Brooks, Camilla Anita 24 September 2008 (has links)
From the case studies presented, one could conclude that for large values of n the standard deviation of r, the usual estimator of the correlation coefficient, and its transform z are only negligibly affected by variation in skewness or variation in kurtosis, the effect being slightly greater for variation in kurtosis. When the variations are in both skewness and kurtosis, the standard deviation of r and of Z are more affected by non-normality, a few significantly so. In small samples (n=10, n=5) the standard deviations of r and,z are quite visibly larger for variations in skewness and variations in kurtosis. The effect is greater for the simultaneous variation of the two. However, all of the values fall within a 95% confidence interval. It would appear then that the increase in the standard deviation of rand z is due more to the natural rise of the standard deviation in small samples rather than to non-normality. Viewing the studies made in totality we may in final conclusion state that the effect of non-normality on the standard deviation of r for samples of any size is not significant enough for concern; i.e., from this Monte Carlo study we will state that the standard deviation of the sample correlation coefficient is robust to the assumption of normality. / Master of Science

Testování totální stanice Leica TC(R) 400. / Total station Leica TC(R) 400 test.

ŽIŽKOVÁ, Eva January 2009 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to check the preciseness of the total station Leica TC(R) 407 ser. No.660021 by using the defined methods. The data collected through measurements and by the computation procedures according to the relevant standards and the proceedings described by the professional literature were compared with the data stated by the manufacturer. The accuracy of the telemeter and the goniometric part of the device was tested. The theoretical part of this thesis is focused on the basic measurement methods and distance determination, principle of the electronic direction measuring and the error theory. The practical part of the thesis is focused on checking the accuracy of the measured horizontal direction and the zenith angle, as well as checking the preciseness of the telemetric part of the device. As a result the standard deviations of the measured distances and directions have been determined.

KINTAMO DIFUZIJOS KOEFICIENTO PARABOLINIŲ LYGČIŲ SPRENDIMAS SKAITINIAIS METODAIS / The solution of variable diffusion coefficient of the parabolic equations by numerical methods

Stonkutė, Alina 03 September 2010 (has links)
Master thesis solved differential equation of diffusion of new techniques methods. Having analyzed the standard variable diffusion coefficient parabolic equation solution methods suggested in this work we solve these equations using the so-called "bridge" function. Tried two types of "bridge" functions: tangent hyperbolic and trigonometric. Differential equation, the solution we were looking for a "bridge" function and the amount of products of powers of polynomials: trigonometry "bridge" function and hyperbolic tangent of a "bridge" function. We have received computer-based solutions and the solutions found at the margins. A comparison of hyperbolic tangent trigonometric "bridge" function of the error standard deviations have received, the more accurate the hyperbolic tangent of a "bridge" function approach.
