Determination of Indium using the dead stop end point

Martens, Laurence Stanley 01 January 1962 (has links)
As the importance of indium for research and industry grows, the need for rapid, accurate analysis of the metal Increases. The dead stop titration method, which has been used for other metals, will now be applied to the quantitative determination of indium ion in aqueous solution. The uses of indium. Indium metal las found increased used during the last few years and is now comercially available. For a long time after its spectroscopic discovery in 1863 by Reich and Richter, it was regarded as little ore than further substantiation of the chemist's periodic classification of the elements. The first major use was more when it was discovered that coating bearing surfaces with the metal gave high corrosion resistance and caused the surface to retain a core complete all film (Latiner and Hildebrand, p. 1).For recently, indium has been used widely in a great many different applications. Sims (1556) and Schneider (1951) have summarized many of these.

Development of a Multi-Level Emergency Stop System for Unmanned Vehicles

Avitabile, Michael Vincent 30 April 2007 (has links)
As the use of unmanned vehicles continues to grow, so does the need for systems to safely test and operate these vehicles. While there are safety systems designed for this purpose, they are often developed for a specific vehicle platform. The Multi-Level Emergency Stop (MLES) system provides three user-defined emergency response contingencies that can be adapted to a wide variety of unmanned vehicles. The Multi-Level Emergency Stop system is designed to be an ad-on safety system that can be integrated into ground, air, or surface unmanned vehicles. A complete MLES system consists of a hand held transmitter and a vehicle mounted receiver. The three levels of contingencies are controlled by three switches on the transmitter. These switches engage and disengage contacts located in the receiver via a wireless link. The function of these contacts is determined by the user for each unique application. Presented in this thesis is the detailed hardware design and software layout of the Multi-Level Emergency Stop system. Also included are the performance results and operational tests. / Master of Science

Development of a Threat Assessment Algorithm for Intersection Collision Avoidance Systems

Doerzaph, Zachary R. 11 February 2008 (has links)
Relative to other roadway segments, intersections occupy a small portion of the overall infrastructure; however, they represent the location for nearly 41 % of the annual automotive crashes in the United States. Thus, intersections are an inherently dangerous roadway element and a prime location for vehicle conflicts. Traditional safety treatments are effective at addressing certain types of intersection safety deficiencies; however, cumulative traffic data suggests these treatments do not address a large portion of the crashes that occur each year. Intersection Collision Avoidance Systems (ICAS) represent a new breed of countermeasures that focus on the types of crashes that have not been reduced with the application of traditional methods. Incursion systems, a subset of ICAS, are designed to specifically undertake crashes that are a result of the violation of a traffic control device. Intersection Collision Avoidance Systems to address Violations (ICAS-V) monitor traffic as it approaches the intersection through a network of in-vehicle sensors, infrastructure- mounted sensors, and communication equipment. A threat-assessment algorithm performs computations to predict the driver's intended intersection maneuver, based on these sensor inputs. If the system predicts a violation, it delivers a timely warning to the driver with the aim of compelling the driver to stop. This warning helps the driver to avoid a potential crash with adjacent traffic. The following dissertation describes an investigation of intersection approach behavior aimed at developing a threat assessment algorithm for stop-sign intersections. Data were collected at live intersections to gather infrastructure-based naturalistic vehicle approach trajectories. This data were compiled and analyzed with the goal of understanding how drivers approach intersections under various speeds and environmental conditions. Six stop-controlled intersection approaches across five intersections in the New River Valley, Virginia area were selected as the test sites. Data were collected from each site for at least two months, resulting in over sixteen total months of data. A series of statistical analysis techniques were applied to construct a set of threat assessment algorithms for stop-controlled intersections. These analyses identified characteristics of intersection approaches that suggested driver intent at the stop sign. Models were constructed to predict driver stopping intent based on measured vehicle kinematics. These models were thoroughly tested using simulation and evaluated with signal detection theory. The overall output of this work is a set of algorithms that may be integrated into an ICAS-V for on-road testing. / Ph. D.

Do barro do rio: um filme de animação inspirado na lenda do Golem / River Clay, an animation film inspired on the legend of the Golem

Stuermer Junior, Kurt Jurgen 02 October 2013 (has links)
The golem is a being connected to Jewish mysticism. The most significant narrative involves Judah Loew, the late 16th-century rabbi of Prague, in the Czech Republic. The rabbi modelled the Golem out of clay from the banks of the Vltava river, and brought it to life through a magic process. The Golem was created to defend the Jews from antisemitic attacks. In this short stop-motion animation made with clay, the story of the Golem takes a contemporary approach. The Golem has to defend not the Jews only, but the whole human kind from its greatest threat. Searching for the meaning of its task, the Golem faces the contradiction it represents. In this animation, clay frees itself from its materiality leaving behind its weight to become fluid and ethereal. That is the reason why it was chosen to be used as the means of expression in this project.

[en] TECHNOLOGICAL EXPERIMENTATION ON FACIAL EXPRESSIONS IN STOP MOTION ANIMATION / [pt] EXPERIMENTAÇÃO TECNOLÓGICA PARA ANIMAÇÃO DE EXPRESSÕES FACIAIS EM STOP MOTION

ANTONIA MUNIZ MARTINS 17 January 2019 (has links)
[en] This dissertation investigates in a multidisciplinary way the process of facial expressions animation in stop motion feature films. It contextualizes and observes the production of stop motion feature films in Brazil and abroad. Through exploratory and experimental research, we investigate physical interface technologies applied to puppet s facial expressions animation. The research is structured in three parts. First, stop motion technique is discussed through a historical parallel between technological development in relation to the technique. Next, information is gathered on feature film productions, from Brazil and abroad, using stop motion technique with puppets. Different techniques found in facial expression animation are observed in relation to the character s interpretation and the unity of the puppet. The survey starts with a bibliographic review and interviews with four national studios in the production stage of stop motion feature films in the last part, we discuss the act of animating a puppet and propose a series of experiments in search of new ways to animate the facial expressions of puppets with the aid of technology. The experiments were based on processes of reflexive practice, knowing-in-action and reflection-in-action. This research contributes to the expansion of the discussion about the stop motion technique in Brazil, its optimization and production, thus motivating the production of new stop motion feature films in the Brazilian market.

Stopptidsanalys i hyvelanläggningen vid VIDA Vislanda / Stop time analysis in the planing facility at VIDA Vislanda

Isaksson, Eddie, Klitsch, Robert January 2015 (has links)
VIDA Vislanda has a need to know how efficient production is on their new planing mill. Therefore, work to investigate the stopping time lengths and the underlying causes of stoppages at the company is needed. It is also part of the work to submit proposals on measures that could lead to improvements in activity rates and reduction of downtime. VIDA Vislanda wants to know the efficiency, real meters out and real units out for each dimension and length. The results are presented after this request, but the overall efficiency of the entire measurement period was also calculated, to 52%. If VIDA addresses the major recurring causes of stoppages with our proposed improvements it will decrease the stoppages and thus increase efficiency.
