We aim, in this thesis, understand the operation of the discourse on the gaucho at the press in times of censorship. From the perspective of Discourse Analysis, initiated in the works developed by the group of intellectuals around Michel Pêcheux, in France, our work takes place in-between the bases made, beyond the relationship myth and non-myth. The practices of journalistic discourse collaborate to form a stabilizing effect of the senses on the gaucho, the construction of references to this identification process. Such stabilizing effect allows our observation on the prohibition of registration of the subject in certain discoursive formations in operation since the newspaper foundation (Zero Hora) in 1964. We have performed our cutouts considering chronologically (straightness which does not apply to the movement of the senses) the period from 1964, the year of the coup, until 1969, the first year after the establishment of Institutional Act Number 5 (Institutional Act that extended and helped the 'models' of repression and torture). Taking the discoursive processess as heterogeneous, we made a movement that aims to identify the assumptions stabilized in the journalistic discourse on the gaucho, and, mainly, to deconstruct the evidences put into circulation after the coup of 64. From the analysis of the discoursive excerpts - the identification of different subject positions we find in the 'textualizing' of journalistic discourse - we could make explicit the operation of ideology in this process of signification. Acting on an institutionalization effect of the senses, the press collaborates in maintaining a certain order: the imposition of the gaucho‟s myth, gaucho as sul rio-grandense, closed in its borders and, with it, in its meaning. / Buscamos, nesta dissertação, compreender o funcionamento do discurso sobre o gaúcho na imprensa em tempos de censura. Da perspectiva da Análise de Discurso, iniciada nos trabalhos desenvolvidos pelo grupo de intelectuais em torno de Michel Pêcheux, na França, nosso estudo situa-se nos entremeios das bases constituídas além da relação mito/não-mito. As práticas do discurso jornalístico colaboram para a constituição de um efeito de estabilização dos sentidos sobre o gaúcho, na construção de referenciais para o processo de identificação desse sujeito. Tal efeito de estabilização permite nossa observação na interdição da inscrição do sujeito em determinadas formações discursivas em funcionamento desde a fundação do jornal (Zero Hora), em 1964, ano em que, no Brasil, via golpe de Estado, uma ditadura militar é instaurada. Efetuamos nossos recortes considerando cronologicamente o período que vai de 1964, ano do golpe, até 1969, primeiro ano após a instauração do ato institucional número 5 (ato institucional que ampliava e auxiliava os modelos‟ de repressão e tortura), salientando, porém, que essa linearidade não se aplica ao movimento dos sentidos. Tomando os processos discursivos como heterogêneos, realizamos um movimento que busca identificar pressupostos estabilizados no discurso jornalísticosobre o gaúcho, e, principalmente, desconstruir as evidências colocadas em circulação após o golpe de 64. A partir da análise dos recortes discursivos, na identificação das diferentes posições-sujeito que encontramos no textualizar‟ do discurso jornalístico, pudemos explicitar o funcionamento da ideologia nesse processo de significação. Dessa forma, ao atuar em um efeito de institucionalização dos sentidos, observamos que a imprensa colabora na manutenção de uma determinada ordem: a da imposição do mito do gaúcho, gaúcho como sul rio-grandense, fechado em suas fronteiras e, com isso, também em seu sentido.
