A Search for Supersymmetry with New Kinematic Variables in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the ATLAS Detector at the Large Hadron Collider

Bain, Travis 10 December 2012 (has links)
A search for Supersymmetry is presented. The search is done with final states containing jets, missing transverse energy and no leptons, using 4.7 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is carried out using new kinematic variables in two distinct signal regions with and without b-jet tagging. No significant excess above the Standard Model background expectation is observed, and limits are set on the Supersymmetry models. The results are interpreted as limits on the minimal supergravity framework, as well as a simplified Supersymmetry model of Gluino pair-production

Low-energy N=1 supergravity and N=2 supersymmetry models

Wilkinson, Stephen Kidman January 1985 (has links)
Firstly, scalar quark mass matrices are calculated for a non-minimal SU5 N=l supergravity theory with realistic fermion masses. The squark mixing matrices, analogues of the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrices for quarks, are also calculated and have significant off-diagonal entries. Thus, there are non-zero flavour-changing gaugino interactions between 'up' quarks and 'up' squarks in the non-minimal model. This is in contrast to the case for minimal SU5 . It is shown that in the non-minimal model flavour-changing gluino interactions contribute to the proton decay modes p → μ+K0, ῡμK+ at about the same rate as the mode p → ῡμK+ mediated by Wino exchange. Contributions to the KL-KS mass difference from flavour-changing gluino and wino interactions are small. Secondly, for a finite N=2 globally supersymmetric theory it is shown that the set of finiteness-preserving soft operators previously derived by Parkes and West is incomplete. The complete set of 1-loop finite operators is derived by a graphical analysis, and it is shown that most of these preserve finiteness to all orders. The low-energy N=2 model of Del Aguila et al. is reviewed, and it is shown that new constraints on the τ-neutrino mass require an unnaturally high scale of supersymmebry breaking in the model.

Supersymmetry breaking in 4D string theory

Macorra, Axel de la January 1993 (has links)
In this thesis we address the problem of supersymmetry breaking in four dimensional string theory. We derive an effective Lagrangian describing the low energy degrees of freedom including the Goldstone mode associated with the spontaneously broken R-symmetry when a gaugino condensate forms. We show the equivalence between our approach and those previously used for studying gaugino condensate in 4D string theory but we also show the need to include quantum effects due to the strong coupling constant in the hidden sector. We determine the vacuum structure of the complete scalar potential and show that supersymmetry is broken and a large mass hierarchy may develop with a single gaugino condensate. Realistic phenomenological values for the gauge coupling constant, unification scale and soft supersymmetric breaking terms can be obtained. Consistency with the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model requires the hidden gauge group to be SU(6) or SO(9).

Sólitons e supersimetrias em modelos de toda não-abelianos/

Silka, Marcelo Brasil. January 2002 (has links)
Tal mapeamento é implementado aplicando as soluções solitônicas encontradas / Abstract: In this work the construction of a supersymmetric version of the non-abelian Toda model, the super Lund-Regge model, is proposed. It employs the WZW hierarchy associated to the algebra OSP(2,2), followed by a hamiltonian reduction. This construction leads to equations of motion that agree with the Leznov-Saveliev equations (zero curvature condition). The zero curvature condition formalism is extended to its multi-time form establishing an hierarchy of equations. This strategy leads to the construction of the AKNS model underlined by the same algebraic structure. One soliton Solutions are calculated for both models. Also it was verified the correlation between these models by the mapping of super Lund-Regge constrained currents into AKNS variables. This mapping is verified applying the one soliton solutions / Mestre
