No. of bitstreams: 1 Ribeiro_RicardoFonseca_LD.pdf: 1106615 bytes, checksum: a91f7ecf979f4a788bb3b116b561c2cd (MD5) Previous issue date: 1988 / Resumo: A finalidade do presente trabalho foi a de quantificar, ao término do crescimento ósseo, aos 113 dias de vida, as alterações de comprimento, massa, volume e densidade de tíbias e fêmures de pintos machos que haviam sido objeto de fratura de tibia, no terço médio da diáfise, aos 21 dias de idade. As aves com fratura foram divididas em três grupos: com fratura à direita (D), com fratura ã esquerda (E) e com fratura bilateral (B). Um quarto grupo incluiu aves que não sofreram fratura, para fins de controle (C). Para a medida de volume, ideou-se e construiu - se um aparelho que é minuciosamente descrito. Dos resultados das análises realizadas merecem destaque os seguintes: 1. nos grupos D e E, a massa e o volume das tíbias, no lado' fraturado, foram maiores do que no lado não fraturado, enquanto, nos fêmures, tendeu a ocorrer o oposto; 2. o prejuízo, no desenvolvimento corporal das aves com fraturas, provavelmente atribuível à dificuldade de acesso ao alimento, ocorreu menos nos segmentos ósseos estudados do que no corpo globalmente; 3. nos grupos D e E, o desenvolvimento do volume e da massa das tíbias e dos fêmures se processou em proporções aproximadamente iguais, fazendo com que a densidade esses ossos não difira apreciavelmente da dos controles correspondentes. Nos ossos do grupo B, o desenvolvimento da massa foi proporcionalmente maior do que o do volume, resultando densidade que supera a dos controles e dos fraturados, monolateralmente correspondentes / Abstract: The idea of the present research was to quantify, at the final growth of bones, the alterations of lenghtening, weight, volume and density of tibiae and femurs.: ofc male chickens. At the age of 21 days their tibiae were broken at the middle third of the diaphysis and they were sacrified at 113 days af life. The chickens were divided into three groups: D-fracture of the right. side; E - fracture of the left side ; B-bilateral fracture. A fourth group was used without fractures for comparison - C. To measure the volume was designed and built an apparatus which is described in detail. Of the results af the analysis deserve consideration the following: 1. in the groups D and E the weight and volume of tibiae of the fractured side were larger than on the unfractured, while on the femurs tended to occur the opposite; 2. the prejudice of the body development of the birds wrth fractures, probably due to the difficulty of having access to the food occurred with 1ess magnitude at the bones studied than at the body as a whole. 3. 1n the groups D and E the volume and weight of tibiae and femurs developed in approximately equal proportions. As a result, the density of these bones does not differ appreciably from the corresponding controls. In the banes of group B the development of the weight was proportionally larger than the volume.
