Factors influencing college students' attitudes toward technologyKalanda, Kasongo 30 September 2005 (has links)
The present study assessed the views of students on school-related determinants with respect to liking or disliking technology. In determining students' views, two self-report instruments, the Classroom Learning Environment Survey (CLES) and Attitudes Toward Science Scale (ATSS) were used. Also, an interview schedule was arranged with a selected group. Participants were 200 first years registered for Diplomas in Primary -, Secondary -, and Technology Education. Results indicated a positive relationship between attitudes towards technology and each of teacher characteristics, student characteristics and the classroom environment. Regression analysis showed that attitudes toward technology were predicted by the three study variables. On the other hand, no statistically significant gender differences were established. Recommendations and suggestions for further research are also advanced. / Mathematics, Science & Technology Education / M. Sc. (Technology Education)

A maturity model of evaluating requirements specification techniquesShin, Yonghee 15 November 2004 (has links)
It is important to evaluate and understand the state-of-art technologies to position our research and invest our energy and resources in more effective ways. Unfortunately, no systematic approach has been introduced to evaluate the maturity of technologies except a few models such as Redwine/Riddle's model (Redwine and Riddle, 1985), which does not contain a significant concept, "goals" of technologies.
A new goal-oriented, technology maturity evaluation model has been proposed in this present study. The model aids to measure how a technology meets the goal of the technology along with a well-defined procedure. The model has applied to evaluate the maturity of the requirements specification technology as a case study. The results showed that this approach promoted effectiveness of measuring the technology maturity and understanding the state-of-art technology.

Enabling the Reuse of Electronic Health Record Data through Data Quality Assessment and TransparencyWeiskopf, Nicole Gray January 2015 (has links)
With the increasing adoption of health information technology and the growth in the resulting electronic repositories of clinical data, the secondary use of electronic health record data has become one of the most promising approaches to enabling and speeding clinical research. Unfortunately, electronic health record data are known to suffer from significant data quality problems. Awareness of the problem of electronic health record data quality is growing, but methods for measuring data quality remain ad hoc. Clinical researchers must handle this complicated problem without systematic or validated methods. The lack of appropriate or trustworthy electronic health record data quality assessment methodology limits the validity of research performed with electronic health record data.
This dissertation documents the development of a data quality assessment framework and guideline for clinical researchers engaged in the secondary use of electronic health record data for retrospective research. Through a systematic literature review and interviews with key stakeholders, we identified core constructs of data quality, as well as priorities for future approaches to electronic health record data quality assessment. We used a data-driven approach to demonstrate that data quality is task-dependent, indicating that appropriate data quality measures must be selected, applied, and interpreted within the context of a specific study. On the basis of these results, we developed and evaluated a dynamic guideline for data quality measures in order to help researchers choose data quality measures and methods appropriately within the context of reusing electronic health record data for research.

The evaluation of research activities is essential for the goverrunental agencies involved in funding large programs of science, technology and innovation (S,T&I). Currently, evaluation initiatives have been used for legitimating of public spending resources and also to verify the resul.ts and impacts of the funded projects. Evaluation of such programs produces qualified inforrnation that can be used for the improvement of the programs and support subsequent decisions on the public and private financing. However, the debate on the evaluation of S, T &I funding in Brazil is recent in both public arid private sectors. ln face of the complexity of the S,T&I system, improved evaluation methodologies have been proposed to collect the results and impacts of these programs in a comprehensive and appropriated manner. ln view of the multiplicity of actors involved and the non-linear nature of the activities developed in the S, T &I programs, the objective of the present work was to contribute for the progress of the evaluation methodologies, through the development and application of appropriate indicators to evaluate the Support for lntellectual Property ProgramlOffice for Patenting and Licensing of Technology (PAPI/Nuplitec), of the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). The choice of the program to be evaluated was due to the enormou's importance of the intellectual property to the nation's economic development and the increasing need for the transformation of scientific knowledge into innovations for the productive sector. The work made the use of the decomposition approach of evaluation, which is based on two axes: the decomposition of the formal objectives of the programs and the dialog with the different actors involved. At the end, the results have shown the relevance of the program to support intellectual property and promotion of culture of patenting in the context of the research institutions of the state of São Paulo / Mestrado / Mestre em Política Científica e Tecnológica

Onderwyserweerstand teen mediagebruikSmith, Craig Ian 04 June 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Media Studies) / Despite the availability I variety and virtually limitless properties of the different types of educational materials and equipment, it would appear that there are still many teachers who are opposed to the use of educational media. For the purposes of this study it was necessary to investigate the reasons why teachers do not use educational materials and equipment during their lessons. A literature study was done to investigate the factors which could contribute to resistance I the areas where resistance could appear and resistance of teachers to the use of media in their classrooms. An empirical study was conducted into the possible reasons for resistance to media usage at East Rand high schools. Research yielded the following results: The majority of teachers are willing to discuss media related matters with colleagues and superiors. Teachers are willing to experiment with a variety of media. The majority are willing to change their methods and use the ideas of others in their own classrooms.

M.Ed. / Students exhibit misconceptions or deviations from universally accepted concepts. Constructivists trace these misconceptions back' to the unique conceptual frames of reference of students. Ausubel (1985:82) named prior knowledge as the single most important factor influencing learning. New teaching strategies were designed to prevent or eliminate these misconceptions. The strategies are based on guidelines postulated by researchers such as Posner and his co-workers (1982:211). Several strategies use media to motivate students or provide a more concrete base for concept formation. The side effects of the utilization of media are important to designers and users of media. An empirical investigation was launched to determine whether media could also stimulate the formation of misconceptions. The investigation indicated that two dimensional representations of atoms, molecules and ion lattices can lead to misconceptions. Greater care should be taken in the selection of illustrations for textbooks and other media. If these side effects are taken into account by media designers and teachers, media can play a major role in the prevention and elimination of misconceptions.

Sicheres Cloud Computing in der PraxisReinhold, Paul 11 April 2017 (has links) (PDF)
