Can you see the music? MTV base music television production centre

Jooste, Marc Charles 19 November 2007 (has links)
This dissertation is the result of in interest in the progression of media-technologies within the urban context. Large media billboards scattered along major vehicular routes, also advertisements and information displayed on the facades of buildings have become synonymous with the urban fabric. The intent of this dissertation is to determine the relationship between media-technologies and the social organizations of the city. Can one consider these technologies as generators for social interaction and the broadening of the urban cultural content? Media-technologies are becoming increasingly popular in the use of public spaces, signifying the ability and opportunity for these systems to create an interactive relationship with the user. The theme of the discourse is the creation of a Music Television production centre in Prinshof, a neglected part of the Pretoria inner city. Establishing an entertainment based development in this already vibrant area, might contribute to the systematic rejuvenation of this lower to middle-income community. The design proposal aims at becoming a social tool, encouraging the development and sustaining of the local cultural identity and realizing the potential of media/interaction technologies within the African context. / Dissertation (MArch(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Architecture / unrestricted

Socialistický realismus a normalizace v archivu Československé televize v Ostravě a jejich reflexe po roce 1989 / Archive of photography of the czech television Ostrava (photography as a source of information)

Bednář, Marek January 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the topic of photography in the work of Television studio Ostrava, a part of Czechoslovak television, during a period of the communist regime, called normalisation, and the reflection of this period after the year 1989. It may be presumed that communist propaganda and other efforts of normalisation will be apparent in the documentaries and other products concentrating on photography. The region of Ostrava also has its own cultural specificity due to its mainly industrial nature; the region is characterised by coal mining and metallurgy. Thus it may be presumed that communism will be planted in the minds of the people more firmly. The thesis also contains a theoretical framework, describing socialist realism in photography and normalisation in photography as well as in the television studio in question. In order to verify these hypotheses and to discover other important facts of the topic in question, a content analysis of data available in the archive of Television studio Ostrava was carried out. The archive suffered grave losses during major flooding of Moravia and Silesia in 1997, some films and actual photographs were however still available for analysis. The findings relevant to each document are stated in their respective parts and are summarised as a whole in the...

This thesis focuses on photography in the work of Television studio Ostrava, a part of Czechoslovak television, during a period of 1969-1989, called normalisation, the reflection of this period after the year 1989 and mainly the photography archive of said institution. / Salvador

Prchlíková, Lucie January 2014 (has links)
The author aims to focus the work on the formation of audiences from the early days of television. The key is to introduce readers to the beginnings of broadcasting from the perspective of the viewer, not just the overview of the history of television broadcasting in Czechoslovakia. The studied time period is mainly the 50s of 20th century with a brief insight into the interwar period. In the end the author compares the past with current state of television entertainment. The work is methodologically processed by archival research and professional literature in combination with the oral history method using real interviews with narrators. This leads to a comparison of officially available information about the beginnings of television broadcasting with the testimony of their direct audience. However, the result of the research is a mutual agreement in the field of television technology (first receivers), as well as in the sphere of program distribution, in the social area and also it presents how popular was the television in leisure activities of population in the 50s60s of 20th century.
