  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

Internal oscillations of tidal character in certain B.C. inlets

Davis, Patrick Austin January 1960 (has links)
A study of series of profiles of temperature and current at one station in Knight Inlet, and of temperature at two simultaneous stations in Bute, have been made in conjunction with seasonal profiles of temperature, salinity, and the associated density. On this basis certain hypothetical models have been fitted to the dynamics within the inlets. A calculation of the possible modes of progressive internal waves for the two inlets has led to< agreement only in Bute Inlet. A qualitative explanation of the condition in Knight in terms of the dynamic circulation over the sill has led to suggestions as to the mechanism, of exchange in the deeper waters of the inlet, and speculation as to the possibility of prediction of states within an inlet in terms of its topography, runoff cycle, and communication with the coastal waters. / Science, Faculty of / Physics and Astronomy, Department of / Graduate
