Response of DP 600 Products to Dynamic Impact LoadsClark, Deidra Darcell 11 May 2013 (has links)
The objective of this study was to compare the microstructural response of various DP 600 products subjected to low velocity, dynamic impact tests, typically encountered in a car crash. Since the response of steel is sensitive to its microstructure as controlled by the alloying elements, phase content, and processing; various DP 600 products may respond differently to crashes. The microstructure before and after dynamic impact deformation at 5 and 10 mph was characterized with regards to grain size, morphology, and phase content among vendors A, B, and C to evaluate efficiency in absorbing energy mechanisms during a crash simulated by dynamic impact testing in a drop tower.

The project consists in developing a 100mt high tower, harmonizing with contemporary Japanese architecture, as a symbol of vanguard and daring, in addition serving as a landmark for Tokyo city. The museum houses expositions of the fashion history of the 20th century, and also exhibition space where contemporary fashion designers present their recent work, it counts with a basic program that will occupy less than a 4,000m2 area. The project will be located on a determined plot at Omotesando Street in Tokyo. There is also a space where models will parade for a selected audience; it projects outside the main structure of the building , allowing pedestrian and other building’s users from different areas of the city to watch the fashionshows. The Japanese garden at the very top of the building has the traditional Japanese vegetation and components, suitable for Tokyo’s wheather.

RADNICE - VĚC VEŘEJNÁ, Správní centrum městské části Brno-sever / CITY HALL - RES PUBLICA, The administrative center of the district of Brno-severLukášová, Petra January 2015 (has links)
At a very attractive place of city district Černá pole which is situated close to the city centre. There are old barracks. The aim was to create a new city quarter, from this area with all the facilities ,which are necesaryly. The purpose of my master theses was to create a design of a city hall, which would be situated. The most attractive place, which have interesting and memorable position on the top of the hill. Here is a possibility to create a new centre, of city district which is a very inconsistent today. This place is also well reachable by public transport. The building is created by glass parterre and desk covered by metal mesh. The metal mesh is making a shading as well.

Control of Rotary Cranes Using Fuzzy Logic and Time-Delayed Position Feedback ControlAl-Mousa, Amjed A. 11 December 2000 (has links)
Rotary Cranes (Tower Cranes) are common industrial structures that are used in building construction, factories, and harbors. These cranes are usually operated manually. With the size of these cranes becoming larger and the motion expected to be faster, the process of controlling them became dicult without using automatic control methods. In general, the movement of cranes has no prescribed path. Cranes have to be run under dierent operating conditions, which makes closed-loop control preferable.
In this work, two types of controllers are studied: fuzzy logic and time-delayed position feedback controllers. The fuzzy logic controller is introduced first with the idea of split-horizon; that is, to use some fuzzy engines for tracking position and others for damping load oscillations. Then the time-delayed position feedback method is applied. Finally, an attempt to combine these two controllers into a hybrid controller is introduced. Computer simulations are used to verify the performance of these controllers. An experimental setup was built on which the time-delayed position feedback controller was tested. The results showed good performance. / Master of Science

Extension of the Axis MundiSmith, Norman Austin Jr. 11 January 2002 (has links)
A work develops through methodical inquiry based on the reciprocity inherent in the construction of an object and its evaluation. A physical object informs an initial concept and acts as the fundamental catalyst for subsequent findings. Ordered elements result in the description of a vertical structure. Exploring this structure through a rational and modern approach, the author designs an urban center in the form of a tower. The tower, as a cellular mega-structure, maintains the density and complexity of a city's existing urban fabric. An urbane mega-structure offers a new contribution to humanity through architecture. This proposal establishes a relationship between public spaces, which elevate civic and social life, and private spaces that support individuality. The evaluation of precedent works and the investigation of modern technology support an appropriate solution toward the technical realization of these spaces. The thesis seeks an architecture that augments the tangible, replaces the hopeless and invents the absent. / Master of Architecture

A Constant Element of Architecture: A Path Through the Puget SoundMcGuire, Kieran Lee 02 July 2013 (has links)
This thesis explores the design of a constant element of architecture over a changing landscape, and the moments created along the way.
This exploration takes the form of a bridge and series of towers that travel 50 miles from Seattle, WA to the edge of the Puget Sound, Protection island. It is a pilgrimage, a journey, a structure situated within a suspended time and space. / Master of Architecture

Sensibility of Architecture: A Drawn InquiryBett, Thomas V. 19 June 2013 (has links)
This project has been about delving into forms of drawn architectural discovery and inquiry. The cathedral became a vehicle for approaching this from different angles. It tries to understand how a design achieves that distinctive quality which subconsciously divulges the type of environment you have entered. The exploration of this led me to start attempting to work in various non-traditional media and how it could begin to uncover the power each had in communicating the quality of space trying to be attained. / Master of Architecture

Tall TimberMaddox, John Nicholas 28 June 2018 (has links)
From the inception of high rise construction concrete and steel have been the foundation both literally and figuratively of the construction process. As we, a society, become more aware and conscious of the environmental impacts of our built environment we must ask ourselves, are our current construction practices the best or are there ways that we can not only become more environmentally cognizant, but also more efficient in our construction of buildings. This project is an investigation of how a joint can help to improve the construction process and manifest itself into creating the tectonic nature of a project by using timber in high rise construction. / Master of Architecture

Creating Shade in Arid Climates: A Welcoming Landscape Based on Zoroastrian Beliefs for the Towers of SilenceNajafi Ashtiani, Azadeh 13 December 2019 (has links)
This study develops a landscape design, which demonstrates how to change the microclimate in a historical public space (Towers of silence, in city of Yazd, designated as World Heritage Site, in the heart of Iran).
The arid historic city of Yazd is getting hotter. The increasing temperatures make it more and more difficult to use the public space. Towers of silence inherited from Zoroastrianism are stone cylindrical structures located on top of the hills within infertile land located south east of the city of Yazd.
This historic site brings visitors from around the world every year but the microclimate of the site it is not welcoming. The current layout does not provide information about the rich culture it entailed, and visitors are not able to understand the meaning that is behind these structures.
This design aims to improve the current conditions of these magnificent towers and utilize techniques like historical plan analysis, comparative analysis and experimental design study. Using landscape architecture to address the climate issue the proposed design translates Zoroastrian's beliefs to visitors as well as creating a more hospitable environment. / Master of Landscape Architecture / All around the world people must deal with climate change and the effects of extreme weather. City of Yazd in the heart of Iran is not immune to such changes and has traditionally faced a harsh desert like climate. This study focuses on improving the climate surrounding a unique and magnificent historic site in city of Yazd called the Silent Towers (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site). The design uses material and natural elements that are local to the site (stone, plants and trees) and infuse Zoroastrian and ancient Persian beliefs to bring about a more pleasant conditions (reducing the heat) for the visitors to this site. The outcome of merging tradition and natural elements to mitigate extreme temperatures brings about a layout that is inviting to visitors and hospitable to the local population without changing any of the values or the integrity of the main attraction: The Towers of Silence.

This thesis is an eutopian project: it examines what is with a sense of what should be to see what must be done. The project is a rerouting of Interstate 581 in Roanoke, Virginia through a reinforced concrete tunnel from the Orange Avenue exit to the Elm Avenue exit with towers placed at intervals along the tunnel to provide light. A reinforced concrete pedestrian bridge links the towers and provides a path from downtown Roanoke to the Civic Center. / Master of Architecture
