Refraction Effects for Tracking Error at C- & S-Band Frequencies

ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This document is focused on the examination of the tracking angular error due to the radio refraction for the target in low altitude of less than 5km and in low elevation angle. The real measured data using the GPS and the tracking systems of C- and S-band frequency in NARO Space centre, Korea are used for the analysis. The analysis shows couple of conclusions on the radio refraction effects; there are angular errors due to the radio refraction which is not to be neglected comparing the accuracy of the tracking system but to be considered for the precise measurement of the target position. Also, the refraction errors are dependent on the target altitude, but not on the frequency.

The Reciprocal Influence between Individuals’ Perceptions of Spouse’s Attachment and Marital Satisfaction

There is a large body of research documenting the link between individuals’ perceptions of partners’ traits and relationship satisfaction (Simpson, Fillo, & Myers, 2012). Prior work indicates that both accurate understanding and idealized perception of partners’ traits are associated with greater relationship satisfaction (e.g., Luo & Snider, 2009). However, research in this area has predominantly focused on the impact of partner perception on relationship satisfaction. There is very limited evidence on whether relationship satisfaction in turn affects partner perception. The present study followed newlywed heterosexual couples during their first 2-3 years of marriage and examined the relations between individuals’ perceptions of spouses’ attachment style and marital satisfaction over time using two waves of data. Using cross-lagged structural equation models, the study finds that individuals’ greater satisfaction significantly predicted their greater accuracy in tracking their partner’s anxiety, lower accuracy in tracking their partner’s avoidance, increased positive illusions of their partner’s avoidance, and their partner’s decreased positive illusions of individuals’ avoidance one year later. Furthermore, individuals’ greater positive illusions of their partner’s anxiety and avoidance led to their partner’s increased satisfaction and individuals’ decreased satisfaction down the line, respectively. Potential explanations for contradictory results between anxiety and avoidance are discussed at length. The study extends the literature by investigating the directionality of the link between partner perception and relationship outcomes using cross-lagged models in a longitudinal design.

Real-time Head Motion Tracking for Brain Positron Emission Tomography using Microsoft Kinect V2

The scope of the current research work was to evaluate the potential of the latest version of Microsoft Kinect sensor (Kinect v2) as an external tracking device for head motion during brain imaging with brain Positron Emission Tomography (PET). Head movements constitute a serious degradation factor in the acquired PET images. Although there are algorithms implementing motion correction using known motion data, the lack of effective and reliable motion tracking hardware has prevented their widespread adoption. Thus, the development of effective external tracking instrumentation is a necessity. Kinect was tested both for Siemens High-Resolution Research Tomograph (HRRT) and for Siemens ECAT HR PET system. The face Application Programming Interface (API) ’HD face’ released by Microsoft in June 2015 was modified and used in Matlab environment. Multiple experimental sessions took place examining the head tracking accuracy of kinect both in translational and rotational movements of the head. The results were analyzed statistically using one-sample Ttests with the significance level set to 5%. It was found that kinect v2 can track the head with a mean spatial accuracy of µ0 < 1 mm (SD = 0,8 mm) in the y-direction of the tomograph’s camera, µ0 < 3 mm (SD = 1,5 mm) in the z-direction of the tomograph’s camera and µ0 < 1 ◦ (SD < 1 ◦ ) for all the angles. However, further validation needs to take place. Modifications are needed in order for kinect to be used when acquiring PET data with the HRRT system. The small size of HRRT’s gantry (over 30 cm in diameter) makes kinect’s tracking unstable when the whole head is inside the gantry. On the other hand, Kinect could be used to track the motion of the head inside the gantry of the HR system.
