Flat plate voided slabs: a lightweight concrete floor system alternative

Wheeler, Hunter January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Architectural Engineering / Bill Zhang / In structural engineering, it can be challenging to incorporate a sustainable design without sacrificing structural integrity. However, flat plate voided slabs are an interesting alternative to standard flat plate concrete slab systems due to the reduction in concrete and the recycled plastic void formers that are located inside the slab. This research is necessary because an increased use of voided slabs in concrete structures would help fight climate change by reducing the CO₂ emissions caused from cement production. This report will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of implementing plastic void formers into solid flat plate slabs and examine a parametric study comparing voided flat plate slabs to solid flat plate slabs. The design of the voided slabs follows the CRSI Design Guide for Voided Concrete Slabs while also referencing the ACI 318-14 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete. Three different slabs for typical square bay sizes of 25 feet, 30 feet, and 35 feet are designed to compare the effectiveness of voided slabs to traditional solid slabs.

Performance-Based Analysis of a Reinforced Concrete Shear Wall Building

Hagen, Garrett Richard 01 June 2012 (has links)
PERFORMANCE-BASED ANALYSIS OF A REINFORCED CONCRETE SHEAR WALL BUILDING Garrett Richard Hagen In this thesis, a special reinforced concrete shear wall building was designed per ASCE 7-05, and then the performance was investigated using the four analysis procedures outlined in ASCE 41-06. The proposed building was planned as a 6-story office building in San Francisco, CA. The structural system consisted of a two-way flat plate and reinforced concrete columns for gravity loads and slender structural walls for seismic loads. The mathematical building models utilized recommendations from ASCE 41-06 and first-principle mechanics. Moment-curvature analysis and fiber cross-section elements were used in developing the computer models for the nonlinear procedures. The results for the analysis procedures showed that the building met the Basic Safety Objective as defined in ASCE 41-06. The performance levels for the nonlinear procedures showed better building performance than for the linear procedures. This paper addresses previously found data for similar studies which used steel special moment frames, special concentric braced frames, and buckling restrained braced frames for their primary lateral systems. The results showcase expected seismic performance levels for a commercial office building designed in a high seismicity region with varying structural systems and when using different analysis procedures. Keywords: reinforced concrete structural walls, shear walls, performance-based analysis, ETABS, Perform-3D, flat plate, two-way slab.

Návrh betonových konstrukcí vyztužených nekovovou FRP výztuží / Design of concrete structures reinforced with non-metallic FRP reinforcement

Golisová, Michaela Unknown Date (has links)
This diploma thesis investigates the design of concrete structures reinforced with non-metallic FRP reinforcement with a focus on solving the bearing capacity in extrusion. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part begins with an introduction to FRP reinforcement and a description of shear stress. The following is an introduction to current approaches dealing with this issue. In the practical part, in connection with these regulations, parametric studies are developed to compare the influence of individual input parameters and selected regulations. The last part is dedicated to the design and nonlinear analysis performed in the ATENA software.

Návrh vybraných prvků železobetnové konstrukce / Design of selected elements of reinforced concrete structure

Klust, Vojtěch Unknown Date (has links)
Diploma thesis deals with the desing of reinforced two way concrete foundation slab in three variants. In the first variant is slab of constant thickness. In the second variant is haunched slab. In the third variant is slab with piles. The thesis includes a structural design as well as drawings. All calculations were performed in accordance with applicable standards. For the design was used program SCIA Engineer 19.1.

Mateřská škola Pampeliška / Kindergarten Dandelion

Fryčka, Marek January 2018 (has links)
The Diploma thesis "Kindergarten Dandelion" was made as a project documentation for a building construction. It is a detached building with a rugged design on a large and gently sloping land. Kindergarten is divided into three parts, two one-storey parts and one middle two-storey part. There are two operating units for children, technical and administrative part and separate language classroom. Kindergarten is planed as a masonry building based on strip foundations.

Mateřská školka / Kindergarten

Tichá, Kateřina January 2018 (has links)
This final thesis "Kindergarten" was made as a project documentation for a building construction. The kindergarten is designed for maximal 28 children. Kindergarden is designed as a detached building consists of two above-ground floors. Behind the building, there is a large garden, which is a part of the property. Building is situated on a sloping terrain in a walking distance from a residential area of Hajany. There are two operating units: technical part (managemant part) and activity unit. Kindergarten is planed as a masonry building, based on strip foundations.

Krytý městský bazén - betonová konstrukce nádrže / Indoor swimming pool - concrete tank construction

Pőthe, Péter January 2019 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis was to design reinforced concrete construction of the indoor swimming pool and ensure impermeability of the construction, to ensure behavior as concrete tank construction. Static analysis was done by using program Dlubal RFEM 5.12, where interaction of subsoil with construction was taken into account. Slabs around the swimming pool area were divided into expansion section because of temperature changes from glass façade an after that the sealing of expansion gap was solved. Construction system under the swimming was designed and was tested the behavior of walls and slabs. Analysis was done also to considerate of hydration heat. The drawing was done by software CADKON RCD.

Využití moderních kompozitních materiálů při návrhu betonových konstrukcí / The use of advanced composite materials for the design of concrete structures

Bártová, Denisa January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the design of FRP reinforced concrete structures. The theoretical part is focused mainly on the punching shear of a flat two way slab according to ACI, fib Bulletin, CSA, and JSCE standards. This thesis also includes a description of the punching shear resistance according to Eurocode 2. FRP reinforcement, its mechanical properties, and their behaviour in time are also described. Next, a parametric study was performed that examines the effects of various parameters on the punching shear resistance according to the standards mentioned above. At the end a non-linear analysis using the ATENA software was performed. The practical part includes a structural design of a flat two way slab. The slab uses a steel reinforcement at the bottom, while the top is reinforced with FRP reinforcement. The punching shear design is also included. In the last chapter the serviceability limit state is checked, specifically the slab long-term deflection. The thesis also includes drawings. All calculations were performed in accordance with Eurocode 2 and fib Bulletin No. 40.
