Marine geophysical methods are a very useful tool for the study of underwater archeology, because they help in quick overview of large areas of the seafloor and identify archaeological objectives which can be found buried under the rock bottom. Also marine geophysical methods used to determine palaeoshorelines. In this way can be palaeoenvironmental reconstruction and morphology of an area and gather crucial information on the geology of the study area and how they evolved over the years. This dissertation discusses the research and the geophysical methods which were used for regeneration palaeoshorelines in Poros-Modi and the conclusions and the 'archaeological objectives which were found. Build a bathymetric map of the area, and became the regeneration of localized palaeoshorelines. Finally recorded the location of a Mycenaean wreck at one end of the island of Modi.

Arqueologia marítima de um bom abrigo / Maritime Archaeology of a good sheltered anchorage

Duran, Leandro Domingues 10 June 2008 (has links)
The present research integrates efforts from a wider-ranging project which is defined by the Archeological Program from Baixo Vale do Ribeira coordinated by Professor Maria Cristina Mineiro Scatamacchia. The Archeological Program from Baixo Vale do Ribeira aims, in short, the production of archeological knowledge about different human societies that occupied the coastal plain Cananéia-Iguape since the pre historical period. In this case, specifically, the proposal was to aggregate into the research efforts the Bom Abrigo Island, presenting interpretations on the material culture found there and its role in the formation and development process of the historical society that was established in the Brazilian territory from the XVI century on , in particular of those communities from the coastal plain Cananéia-Iguape. The focus of our discussion is defined by the Maritime Archeology which analyzes the different aspects of what we can classify as a maritime culture and its importance in the social, political and economical processes produced by the different human societies. This relation with the maritime environment is also reflected in our research methodology which applies techniques of underwater archeology. In a broad sense, the research performs a macro analyzes of the Bom Abrigo Island proposing interpretations about three different contexts of archeological interest identified there: the whaling station, the lighthouse complex and the "Prainha" bay. In the three contexts we aimed to discuss the importance of the maritime culture in the formation and development process of the commercial, mercantile, capitalist society which was established in the coastal plain Cananéia-Iguape from the very first years in the XVI century, and which served as a basis for the formation of the current Brazilian society.

Un destin au prisme de l'archéologie et de l'histoire / Navigating in revolutionary times : chevalier de L’Espine (1759-1826) from the American Independence into the service of Austria. : a destiny through the prism of Maritime archaeology and History.

Prudhomme, Florence 13 September 2019 (has links)
At the very beginning of the 21st century, a team of archaeologists dived on the wreck of a small 18th century warship in the north of the current Dominican Republic. Its hull is of American manufacture, its guns are Scottish and the buttons of uniforms are French. After having followed some false leads, the research in the National Archives makes it possible to solve this enigma: it concerns the French corvette Dragon of Chevalier de L’Espine, destroyed in January 1783 after a short action against British vessels ensuring the northern blockade of Santo Domingo. This identification serves as a catalyst for a historical research of which Chevalier Joseph de L'Espine du Puy (1759-1826) constitutes the central character. The investigation reveals the fate of the Navy officer L'Espine upstream and downstream of his gallant action in January 1783. Young Knight of Malta and officer of the Navy of Louis XVI, L'Espine participated in the American Revolution, did a mandatory service in the Navy of Malta, and took part in French naval intelligence secret missions. The French Revolution ruined his hopes and forced him into exile. In Austria, he won the confidence of the high Austrian authorities by unambiguously engaging with the armies of France from 1795. L'Espine quickly became one of the brains of an Austrian Navy questioned at each treaty signed between France and Austria. Promoted to Feldmarschall-Leutnant in 1813, L'Espine decided not to return to France at the Restauration. Appointed Governor of Milan in November 1825, he died there on December 31, 1826.
