Experimental Study of Mean Water Level Variation on PlatformWei, Wen-jun 13 October 2004 (has links)
According to the observational data in the northeast coast of Taiwan when the strong typhoon invaded, it was found that abnormal water variation happened several times, and all the abnormal water levels (storm surge) were higher than the normal engineering consideration. In this study, the variation of mean water level (wave set-up & wave set-down) due to progressive wave over a seabed with specific profile has been investigated. This specific seabed is simulated by the hydrodynamic physical models in the laboratory. Two kinds of experimental models are arranged; one is combined by three sections: slope, platform, and vertical wall, and another is combined by slope and vertical. Furthermore, two different slopes of 1/10 and 1/30 were considered. All experimental conditions were controlled such that incident waves break on slope and mean water levels were measured.
In the first model arrangement, surf similarity parameter and dimensionless parameters form by incident and break wave condition are found to be functions of relative max mean water level, but when slope is steep(1/10), the relation between these dimensionless parameters is not obviously. In the second model arrangement, mean water level variation is compared with the theoretical value of single slope. When slope is mild(1/30), experimental results of mean water levels quit agree with theoretical value; when slope is steep(1/10), caused by the reflection of vertical wall, mean water levels in the break point and surf zone are different form theoretical value significantly.

Implementation of 2D Graphic Engine over Embedded LINUXWang, Fu-Min 05 July 2005 (has links)
There are many Operation Systems provide the interface likes the frame buffer in Linux. It let Application Programs can read and write the memory block tightly connecting the operating registers of display card directly to get the goal of directly modifying the monitor display. However, although we have the frame buffer, this kind of graphic processing method is not enough to provide a real-time graphic performance under the needed of huge block drawing and moving.
In order to eliminate the drawback of the low graphic performance of using pure software, there are many cards with 3D graphic engine produced for speeding up the performance of 3D games, like ATI Radeon X850[1] , NVIDIA GeForce 6800[2] and so on. Although the embedded products like digital TV or mobile phone are not needed to have a complex and powerful 3D graphic engine, the idea of speeding up drafting can be provided for the embedded system as a reference. The graphic engine can not only provide a real-time performance of drafting, but also share the work of CPU in embedded system, to achieve the goal of improving graphic performance and cost down.
In the paper, we will implement a 2D graphic engine dynamic shared library for combining the 2D graphic engine and frame buffer on the V/PB926EJ-S target board. To achieve the goal of improving graphic performance, come true the real-time graphic processing ability of Embedded LINUX. And providing a convenient, quickly and reliable software technique of combining hardware resource and operation system together based on the experiment.

A Study of the Relation between Entrepreneurial Experience and Opportunity IdentificationChen, Wei-Ting 09 January 2007 (has links)
Many people instinctively agree that entrepreneurial experience is a valuable property more useful in identifying new opportunities. In fact, many entrepreneurs who had started an enterprise thought that they identified a new opportunity but failed in new enterprise. This let us consider a question ¡§How entrepreneurial experience effects opportunity identification¡H¡¨
Past researches have discussed more about ¡§prior knowledge¡¨, but not deeply discussed about the content of entrepreneurial experience. It is hard to express the unique value of entrepreneurial experience and to explain the logic of the relation between entrepreneurial experience and opportunity identification. This research further describes and defines the content of entrepreneurial experience on the basis of ¡§prior knowledge¡¨ discussed by past researches, and explains the relation between entrepreneurial experience and opportunity identification.
Analyzing literature, this research generalizes a conclusion that entrepreneurial experience includes ¡§start-up experience¡¨, ¡§management experience¡¨ and ¡§industry-specific experience¡¨. ¡§Start-up experience¡¨ is the most unique and is also the key point of this research. Through discussion with entrepreneur, the content of ¡§start-up experience¡¨ includes ¡§sustained opportunity identification¡¨, ¡§establishment of networks of stakeholders¡¨ and ¡§establishment of honor¡¨. The goals of these activities are reacting to the environmental impact of high uncertainty, variance and time pressure in start-up period.
Finally, according to the result of case study, this research finds ¡§sustained opportunity identification¡¨ and ¡§establishment of networks of stakeholders¡¨ could be useful or harmful to opportunity identification in different conditions. ¡§Establishment of honor¡¨ is absolutely useful to opportunity identification. So it can be understood that entrepreneurial experience could give opportunity identification a positive or negative effect.

Signal optimization at isolated intersections using pre-signalsPalekar, Trishul Ajit 30 October 2006 (has links)
This research proposes a new signal operation strategy aimed at efficient utilization of
green time by cutting down on the start up and response loss times. The idea is to have a
"pre-signal" on each main approach a few hundred feet upstream of the intersection in
addition to the main intersection signal, which is coordinated with the pre-signal. The
offset between the main and pre-signal ensures that the majority of start up losses does
not occur at the main signal. The benefits of the system under various traffic conditions
were evaluated based on analysis of the queue discharge process and Corridor
Simulation (CORSIM) study. The proposed measure should reduce the travel time and
total control delay for the signalized network.
To attain the objective the following two studies were undertaken:
1. Development of a queue discharge model to investigate the expected benefits of
the system.
2. Simulation of the system: In the second part of the research, the proposed
strategy was tested using CORSIM to evaluate its performance vis-ÃÂ -vis the
baseline case.
The queue discharge model (QDM) was found to be linear in nature in contrast to prior
expectations. The model was used to quantify the benefits obtained from the pre-signal
system. The result of this analysis indicated that the proposed strategy would yield
significant travel time savings and reductions in total control delay. In addition to the QDM analysis, CORSIM simulations were used to code various
hypothetical scenarios to test the concept under various constraints and limitations. As
per expectations, it was found that the system was beneficial for high demand levels and
longer offsets. The upper limit on offsets was determined by visual observation of
platoon dispersion and therefore the maximum offset distance was restricted to 450 feet.
For scenarios where split phasing was used, the break even point in terms of demand
level was found to be 2500 vph on a three lane approach, whereas that for a lag-lag type
of phasing strategy was found to be 1800 vph, also on a three lane approach.

A Research on the Developmental Tendency of Contemporary Chinese MarxismChen, Chia-Hui 13 March 2008 (has links)
Since Deng Xiaoping implemented the ¡§reform and open-up¡¨ policy in 1978, the world has been greatly influenced during these 30 years. ¡§The Chinese phenomenon¡¨ is deeply affecting the international politics and economics. All those results are thought to be connected to the trend of globalization. As the development of political ideology is firmly related to the lasting of Chinese Communist Party¡¦s political power, Chinese Communist Party¡¦s political ideology is inevitably to act and transform in different ways according to whatever the situations are. By doing this way, the Chinese Communist Party can rule the country smoothly and have a successful development of it. Because it is so important that none of the ¡§China studies¡¨ academic circle can neglect it nowadays. Through ¡§A Research on the Developmental Trend of Contemporary Chinese Marxism¡¨, everyone will be able to have a better understanding in China¡¦s rising and its future. After the Hu -Wen system came to be recognized in 2003, they advocated gradually to ¡§the scientific view of development¡¨ based on humane essence, not just focused on the economic development. They also strengthened the steady stability on politics and the collective democracy. Does it imply that, from now on, the China¡¦s policy will incline gradually towards the centre-left? Or is this ¡§the third way¡¨ of the Republic of China? People in the world are all waiting to see what it will be in the future!

A Study of Luxury Market Development in China- From 1978-2008Lee, Ai-mei 08 September 2008 (has links)
In the past, luxury goods only a few privileged people who can have, such as the nobility. However, due to the economic development made from the upgrading of the consumption patterns change, market liberalization, the Western to the East luxury wave of popular, people are willing to spend money to buy so-called high-priced luxury goods. In other words, the luxury goods consumption is a demand that has nothing to do with the survival of consumer behavior. However, why people are willing to buy luxury goods? What is the motive behind the demand of luxury goods? What are conditions to constitute a luxury market? If the above issues at a different time and space, we might have different answers.
Obviously, the formation of a luxury market that behinds a very complicated message, and through observation of the luxury market, perhaps also to reflecting the political, economic or social and cultural meaning. This study attempted to take the rapid economic rise of China as an example, the luxury market with its observation of objects as a source of information, China's luxury market can produce, first, for the luxury goods industry, to see China's consumption why this market have the prospects for development to provide a favorable supply for the industry that can make growth to the industry. Second, as a observer to see, what are the purposes by consumers to buy the luxury goods. In addition, this study is expected to achieve these results. From China's special national characteristics and cultural values of fairness, such a luxury consumer behavior is the consumption of their special meaning. Between producers and consumers posed by the Chinese luxury goods market will show a positive development complement each other.
