Recent urban studies have been showing a strong tendency to the raise of inequality, factor that has marked and modified considerably urban way of life since the end of 20th century. The gathering of population in the cities potentize the tendency alluded, once it establishes and intensifies progressively urbanization process, causing cities to grow, mostly, unorgarnizedly and diffusely, instituting several urban problems such as poverty, exclusion and sociospacial segregation. Therefore, this research seeks to study Uberlandia's South sector's urban expansion's dynamics in order to confirm the existence of such a space featured by the intense sociospacial distinction arisen from social inequality generated into intro-urban area. Methodological procedures used on the research comprehend bibliographic surveying based on relevant topics focused on this subject, fieldwork, of fundamental importance on the empiric investigation to answer questions presented on the objectives, once going to the field is made feasible by its functional quality around the place being investigated, what facilitates the understanding of the reality from the acquisition of photographic material; data gathering and information collected with public authorities and construction companies responsible for recent projects being built in South sector; analysis of collected documents either from public administration and companies or from advertising folders and journalistic sources; by taking pictures and drawing maps that permit an effective reality portrayal in order to clarify and simplify matters presented throughout this paper; and, finally, compilation and writing down the paper. Here with, based on the investigations, it was possible to verify that South sector is formed of fragmented spaces according to their residents' income level, therefore, establishing social-economic diversification amongst boroughs that are part of it. Besides, it was testified that this city area does not include, mostly, the higher purchasing power population, once this portion is represented by a minimum percentage living in this sector. Finally, the urban expantion oriented towards South sector grants the establishing of a handful of new public and private business projects guided to providing houses to each and every income level, with the commercial ones prioritizing, specially, opulent classes. / Os estudos urbanos atuais vêm demonstrando uma forte tendência no aumento das desigualdades, fator que tem marcado e modificado consideravelmente o modo de vida urbano desde fins do século XX. A aglomeração de população nas cidades potencializa a tendência aludida, visto que estabelece e intensifica continuamente o processo de urbanização, fazendo com que as cidades cresçam, muitas vezes, de modo desordenado ou difuso, instituindo diversas problemáticas urbanas como a pobreza, exclusão e segregação socioespacial. Nesse sentido, o objetivo da pesquisa em questão é realizar um estudo da dinâmica de expansão urbana do setor Sul da cidade de Uberlândia-MG em busca de ratificar a existência de um espaço caracterizado pela intensa diferenciação socioespacial que resulta no surgimento das desigualdades sociais gestadas no meio intraurbano. Os procedimentos metodológicos utilizados na pesquisa compreendem em levantamento bibliográfico embasados nas temáticas pertinentes ao nosso foco de estudo; trabalhos de campo, os quais adquirem fundamental importância na averiguação empírica das questões apresentadas nos objetivos, visto que as idas a campo são viabilizadas pelo seu caráter prático ao local de estudo, facilitando a compreensão da realidade por meio da aquisição de material fotográfico; coleta de dados e informações junto ao poder público municipal e empresas responsáveis pela construção dos atuais empreendimentos que estão sendo implantados no setor Sul; análise dos documentos coletados tanto na administração pública e empresas, quanto em panfletos informativos e fontes jornalísticas; produção de material fotográfico e confecção de mapas que permitem a representação efetiva da realidade, a fim de clarear e simplificar o conteúdo apresentado ao longo do texto; e redação final do trabalho. Deste modo, verificamos a partir de nossos estudos que o setor Sul é constituído por espaços fragmentados de acordo com o nível de renda dos habitantes estabelecendo uma diversificação socioeconômica entre os bairros que o compõem. Além disso, ficou constatado que esta área da cidade não engloba, em sua maioria, população detentora de alto poder aquisitivo, estando esta parcela representada por porcentagens mínimas de residentes no setor. E, finalmente, o direcionamento da expansão urbana para o setor Sul lhe confere atualmente o estabelecimento de uma gama de empreendimentos de caráter público e privado destinados ao atendimento habitacional a todos os níveis de renda e os de cunho comercial priorizam especialmente as classes opulentas. / Mestre em Geografia

This dissertation analyses the city in its contemporariness in particular, the South Sector of Uberlândia through particularities found in medium-sized cities (of such size and rank as that of Uberlândia). It discusses urban dispersion, searching for urbanistic guidelines towards improvement of the population s quality of life. The title of the work, Think, Construct and Live the City, reflects the structure of the text which subdivides the dissertation in its three chapters. To begin with, Think the City comprises an historic analysis of the urbanization of the city s territory and its political and economic evolution, understanding the social and spatial segregation process of the classes of income within the intraurban space of the city. Under these terms, it characterizes the contemporaneous society, its way of life and diversity of the profiles, and the reconfiguration of the centralities through the new forms of segregation. It proposes to define the concepts of urbanity, the relations with the process of segregation and fragmentation of the urban space and also understand the influence of the real estate market on the locations of the undertakings. Construct the City identifies the manner whereby the public and private agents, as well us the social movements, operate in the construction of the contemporary city, in addition to analysing a few undertakings in the region under study in order to understand, through the urban morphology, the operation of the urban design in the construction of the contemporary city and the pertinence of the urbanistic legislation. Live the City is aimed at attaining general guidelines for the urbanization and design of the city in order to generate a reflection on the ways whereby to improve the population s quality of life as well as the public spaces. The approach to this work results in a proposal for general guidelines towards the improvement of the population s quality of life in its social, economic and urbanistic aspects, further considering that any effective interference in the contemporary city should bear in mind the influence of the economic and social aspects on the urbanistic interventions, in order to carry out design projects which can be effectively established in the cities, changing the culture in force regarding the depreciation of the role of the architect and the governing improvisation in the planning processes of our cities. / Esta dissertação analisa a cidade na contemporaneidade - especificamente o Setor Sul de Uberlândia, através das particularidades encontradas nas cidades médias, sua dispersão urbana, e busca diretrizes urbanísticas para melhoria da qualidade de vida da população. O título do trabalho, Pensar, Construir e Viver a cidade, reflete a estrutura do texto que subdivide a dissertação em seus três capítulos. Inicialmente, Pensar a Cidade compreende uma análise histórica da urbanização do seu território e sua evolução política e econômica, entendendo o processo de segregação sócio-espacial das classes de renda dentro do espaço intraurbano da cidade. Nestes termos, caracteriza-se a sociedade contemporânea, seus modos de vida e diversidade de perfis e a reconfiguração das centralidades através das novas formas de segregação. Busca-se definir conceitos de urbanidade, as relações com o processo de segregação e fragmentação do espaço urbano e ainda entender a influência do mercado imobiliário nas localizações dos empreendimentos. Construir a Cidade identifica a forma de atuação dos agentes públicos, privados e dos movimentos sociais na construção da cidade contemporânea e analisa alguns empreendimentos da região em estudo, a fim de compreender, através da morfologia urbana, a atuação do desenho urbano na construção da cidade contemporânea e a pertinência da legislação urbanística. Em Viver a Cidade, propõem-se diretrizes gerais para urbanização e desenho da cidade, de modo a gerar uma reflexão sobre formas de melhorar a qualidade de vida da população e dos espaços públicos. A abordagem desse trabalho resulta em uma proposta de diretrizes gerais para melhoria da qualidade de vida da população urbana, nos seus aspectos sociais, econômicos e urbanísticos, considerando que qualquer interferência efetiva na cidade contemporânea deve considerar a influência dos aspectos econômicos e sociais para as intervenções urbanísticas, a fim de efetivar projetos de desenho que possam se estabelecer de maneira efetiva nas cidades, alterando a cultura vigente de depreciação do papel do arquiteto e da improvisação regente nos processos de planejamento de nossas cidades. / Mestre em Arquitetura e Urbanismo
