Doing so from their duties within the urban network is an even greater challenge. And it is in this universe that this dissertation is inserted. Raising a discussion in order to understand the city of Tonantins and São Francisco de Tonantins village, through the analysis of their roles in the production of the urban network of the upper Solimões River, in the Amazonas State. The discussion covers qualitative and quantitative information, divided into four chapters. As the source of information is mainly from in loco data collection carried out in 2015 (February, May, October, November and December). Which was used for intensive direct observation of the local daily lives, semi-structured interviews applied to political and civil leaders, and analysis of documents from the public and private sectors. The chapters are as follow: (1) A study of the municipality of Tonantins focusing mainly on the host-city and the village of São Francisco de Tonantins, with description of natural, human and historical formation, from monographic analysis used in classical geography of Pierre Monbeig (1908-1987). (2) Characterizing Tonantins in terms of its relationship with the Village São Francisco de Tonantins, and other human settlements in the region, based on the analysis of Castells's network (2008) and Correa's urban network, (2011). (3 e 4) A discussion that highlights the commercial fishing organization, production and trade, as the variable that will enable understanding Tonantins in the production of urban network in your region, this time using the Amazon urban analysis prospects of Schor and Oliveira (2011). With the results of this work are expected both to contribute to the objectives of the case study, as the theoretical and methodological perspectives of urban research in the Amazon. Thus, in the case study, it is concluded that (1) Tonantins and São Francisco de Tonantins are articulated in a set of urban networks with flows that date back the colonial period; and also flows in international territory; (2) the analysis of variables served especially to understand what may be one of the Amazon's urban dynamic cities; (3) the analysis of the fishery structure deepened as Tonantins through this activity, it remains connected to the network. And on the methodological perspective, it is concluded that (1) the more that the cities in the Amazon are viewed at a distance, even further is being to really know what they are; and (2) the city itself reveals what is without inserting it in ratings until it even fits. / Entender uma cidade e uma vila no contexto urbano da Amazônia é um grande desafio. Fazer isso a partir de suas atribuições dentro da rede urbana é um desafio ainda maior. E é nesse universo que essa dissertação se insere. Levantando uma discussão com objetivo de compreender a cidade de Tonantins e sua vila São Francisco de Tonantins, por meio da análise de seus papéis na produção da rede urbana da região do Alto Solimões, no Amazonas. A discussão aborda informações qualitativas e quantitativas, divididas em quatro momentos. Quanto a origem das informações é principalmente, da coleta de dados in loco realizada no ano de 2015 (fevereiro, maio, outubro, novembro e dezembro). Onde se utilizou de observação direta intensiva do cotidiano local, entrevistas semiestruturadas aplicadas com lideranças políticas e civis, e análise de documentos dos setores público e privado. Quanto aos momentos na discussão, estes estão assim postos: (1) Um estudo sobre o município de Tonantins tendo como foco principal a cidade-sede e a Vila de São Francisco do Tonantins, com descrição de formação natural, humana e histórica, a partir de análise monográfica utilizada na geografia clássica de Pierre Monbeig (1908-1987). (2) Uma apresentação de como se caracteriza Tonantins em termos de sua relação com a Vila São Francisco de Tonantins, e com outros aglomerados humanos na região, isso a partir da análise em rede de Castells (2008) e, rede urbana, de Correa (2011). (3 e 4) Uma discussão que evidencia a pesca comercial – sua organização, produção e comércio, como a variável que possibilitará entender Tonantins na produção de rede urbana em sua região, nesse momento utilizando das perspectivas de análise do urbano na Amazônia de Schor e Oliveira (2011). Com os resultados deste trabalho se espera tanto contribuir com os objetivos do estudo de caso, quanto nas perspectivas teórico-metodológicas das pesquisas em urbano na Amazônia. Sendo assim, sobre o estudo de caso, conclui-se que (1) Tonantins e São Francisco de Tonantins estão articuladas em um conjunto de redes urbanas, com fluxos que remontam inclusive ao período colonial; e também fluxos de amplitude em território internacional; (2) o uso do papel de Tonantins na rede como variável de análise serviu em especial para compreender o que pode ser uma discreta cidade na dinâmica urbana da Amazônia; (3) a análise da estrutura de pesca aprofundou como Tonantins, através dessa atividade, se mantém conectado a rede. E sobre as perspectivas metodológicas, conclui-se que, (1) quanto mais se estuda as cidades na Amazônia à distância, mais longe ainda se está de conhecer realmente o que são; e (2) chega um momento em que a própria cidade revela o que é, sem precisar inseri-la em classificações, até que ela mesmo se encaixe.
