Maximising expected value under axiological uncertainty : an axiomatic approach

Riedener, Stefan January 2015 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is axiological uncertainty - the question of how you should evaluate your options if you are uncertain about which axiology is true. As an answer, I defend Expected Value Maximisation (EVM), the view that one option is better than another if and only if it has the greater expected value across axiologies. More precisely, I explore the axiomatic foundations of this view. I employ results from state-dependent utility theory, extend them in various ways and interpret them accordingly, and thus provide axiomatisations of EVM as a theory of axiological uncertainty. Chapter 1 defends the importance of the problem of axiological uncertainty. Chapter 2 introduces the most basic theorem of this thesis, the Expected Value Theorem. This theorem says that EVM is true if the betterness relation under axiological uncertainty satisfies the von Neumann-Morgenstern axioms and a Pareto condition. I argue that, given certain simplifications and modulo the problem of intertheoretic comparisons, this theorem presents a powerful means to formulate and defend EVM. Chapter 3 then examines the problem of intertheoretic comparisons. I argue that intertheoretic comparisons are generally possible, but that some plausible axiologies may not be comparable in a precise way. The Expected Value Theorem presupposes that all axiologies are comparable in a precise way. So this motivates extending the Expected Value Theorem to make it cover less than fully comparable axiologies. Chapter 4 then examines the concept of a probability distribution over axiologies. In the Expected Value Theorem, this concept figures as a primitive. I argue that we need an account of what it means, and outline and defend an explication for it. Chapter 5 starts to bring together the upshots from the previous three chapters. It extends the Expected Value Theorem by allowing for less than fully comparable axiologies and by dropping the presupposition of probabilities as given primitives. Chapter 6 provides formal appendices.

Vyhodnocení a návrh možných CSR aktivit na Fakultě podnikohospodářské Vysoké školy ekonomické v Praze / Analysis and Proposals of Possible CSR Activities at the Faculty of Business Administration of University of Economics, Prague

Bürgerová, Jana January 2013 (has links)
Universities should contribute to the education of socially responsible citizens. To accomplish this goal, universities focus on education and they set a good example. Furthermore socially responsible behaviour will increase competitiveness and it will strengthen the university image. The aim of this thesis is to analyse socially responsible activities including students' satisfaction with the level of social responsibility at the Faculty of Business Administration of University of Economics, Prague and to define possible improvements that will generate positive impact on Faculty's reputation. To reach the goal the study of Faculty's documents and the students' opinion survey were carried out. The results have shown that the Faculty performs a lot of socially responsible activities that are highly appreciated by students. Nevertheless some opportunities for improvement were identified especially in the field of strategic management and communication.

Morální disstres učitelů / Moral distress of teachers

Matulová, Jaroslava January 2019 (has links)
This Master's thesis analyzes the subject of moral distress of Czech primary school teachers. It is divided into two parts. The first theoretical part clarifies key concepts and terms of ethics in education. Aside from more general terms like ethics, morals, and stress, it also covers crucial terms like moral distress and critical events. The second, practical part analyzes a qualitative dataset to describe and categorize different forms of moral distress. It records a variety of ways of solving critical situations and their potential influence on the psyche and professional development of educators. The aim of this work is to serve as a base for additional research or as a material for creating strategies to overcome similar situations. KEYWORDS Moral values, ethics, social influences, critical situations, dilemmas, moral distress, stress

Pohled křesťanské etiky na problematiku somatických a germinálních zásahů do lidského genomu za účelem vylepšit parametry druhu Homo Sapiens Sapiens / General view of somatic and germinal interferences with human genome for the purpose of Homo Sapiens Sapiens improvement by means of the Christian ethics

HLINÁK, Jiří January 2010 (has links)
Substantiality of the thesis is the question of moral and ethic in the sphere of developing genetic and inheritance research. Thesis is especially focused on ethics consequences which result from the application of this research. Thesis is divided in two parts. First part contains general information about genetics science and it is more likely descriptive. This part outlines fundamental principles of genetic, its evolution and genetics breakthroughs and their today exploitation. Thereinafter are mentioned genetics techniques divided in singles areas of interest with main focus on human genetic manipulation {--} main topic of the thesis. Close of this part is dedicated to the theoretical aspects of the ambition in the field of human changing and the description of achieved goals. There are mentioned controlling and regulating mechanisms as conclusions of the first part of the thesis. Opinion on regulation of clerical representatives, civil law, laic public and scientists themselves are referred-to. Second part of the thesis is focused directly on the ethics risks of the practical use of genetic technologies and their impact on human being. The principles of catholic ethic are foreshadowed. The expectations of human genetic improvement are confronted gradually by those principles. [90] Statement, that the human improvement by the genetic manipulation is non tenable by means of the Christian ethics is a conclusion of this thesis.
