Este trabalho, inserido no âmbito dos estudos comparados, propõe-se a analisar o conceito de narrativa de viagem em duas obras de Erico Verissimo – mais precisamente – A volta do gato preto e México. No que diz respeito à metodologia, busca pontuar e desenvolver os aportes teóricos comparatistas. Por meio dos estudos comparados é possível transitar com mais clareza por questões relevantes dessa disciplina, tais como intertextualidade, interdisciplinaridade, alteridade, identidade, nacionalidade, questões de tempo e espaço e de deslocamentos/viagens, levando-se em conta, é claro, o enfoque não apenas geográfico, mas também a identidade cultural dos textos do corpus, procurando ressaltar pontos em comum e níveis de alteridade entre os dois romances. Analisase, também, as suas influências, a riqueza de fontes históricas e literárias e a possível contribuição da literatura de viagem na formação de diversas culturas. / This paper, within comparative studies, is aimed at analyzing the concept of travel in two masterpieces of the writer Erico Verissimo – more precisely – A volta do gato preto and México. The methodological issue is focused on the development of comparative theoretical bases. The comparative studies goal allows them to interact and clarify relevant matters to this discipline, such as intertextuality, interdisciplinarity, alterity, identity, nationality and questions about time and space of commutation/travels. Of course, it also takes into account the focus not only on geographic areas, but also on the cultural identity of the confronted texts, which are the corpus of this dissertation. Thus, it is in this sense that this paper intends to act, always highlighting common points and alterity levels between these two novels. Furthermore, it is also necessary to analyze their influences, the value of the historical and literary sources and the possible contribution of travel literature in the formation of many cultures.

Esta dissertação busca problematizar a percepção de Erico Verissimo sobre si mesmo, seu fazer literário e sua relação com o contexto político e social do seu tempo e espaço, para, a partir disso, verificar a relação que ele estabelecia com sua terra natal, o Rio Grande do Sul. Com esta análise, objetiva-se delinear a concepção do escritor sobre as identidades regionais presentes no estado sulino, procurando responder à seguinte questão: “o que é um gaúcho?”. Para tanto, a pesquisa fundamenta-se, em grande parte, nos escritos não ficcionais do romancista, como suas entrevistas, cartas, ensaios, memórias e demais depoimentos dessa natureza. Além disso, destacam-se na análise algumas obras e personagens do escritor, pois se compreende que também na ficção está representado o pensamento de Erico Verissimo, principalmente no que diz respeito à questão das identidades. Therefore, this research is based, largely, in the non-fictional writings of the novelist, as his interviews, letters, essays, memories and other statements of this nature. Besides, this analysis verifies some books and characters of the writer, because it is understood that also in the fiction the thought of Erico Verissimo is represented, mainly the aspects concerned to the question of the identities. Along the way, it is also discussed categories like memory, region, regionality, regionalism, (regional) identity and homeland.

Este trabalho tem por objetivo verificar em que medida a representação da identidade gaúcha na obra O Continente (1a parte da Trilogia O Tempo e o Vento), de Erico Verissimo, contribui para a implantação, a continuidade ou a desconstrução do mito do gaúcho heróico, uma vez que as obras de muitos intelectuais, historiadores, críticos e escritores contribuíram para forjar a idéia de um povo heróico que desbravou ambientes inóspitos, delimitou as fronteiras do sul e escreveu sua história à ponta de lança.

Este trabalho analisa a personagem Maria Valéria em O Tempo e o Vento de Érico Veríssimo como urna personagem transgressora das normas do território proposto no texto. A açao de Maria Valéria provoca o questionarnento sobre a identidade feminina e as funções sociais que foram historicamente delegadas às mulheres. / This work analyses the character Maria valéria in the novelO Tempo e o Vento from Érico Veríssimo as a personage that transgresses the laws of the territory proposed in the text. The action of Maria Valéria arises a questioning about the female identity, and the sOGial functions historically delegated to women.

Contudo, o fecho de sua contribuição encontra-se no campo do memorialismo, com o livro, em dois volumes, Solo de clarineta. Poderíamos chamá-lo de um fecho imperfeito, uma vez que a morte, energicamente, interrompeu seu intento de seguir escrevendo, com a sua prolixidade peculiar, acerca dos fatos vividos. Frente a esse quadro, objetivando elaborar uma tese propositiva, subdividimos nossa abordagem em três partes. A primeira reúne o álbum de família e o álbum de viagem, procurando fazer um sobrevoo que conjugue algumas das recordações de Érico sobre sua vida na companhia de pessoas e lugares. A segunda concentra-se em sua biblioteca, orquestrando leituras de formação, de confirmação e contribuições do próprio escritor às estantes da literatura brasileira. A terceira e última parte procura estabelecer uma comparação entre os escritos de memória e os escritos de ficção, para isso, por meio da metáfora do espelho, aproxima ao limite o que se encontra separado em definitivo pela película de vidro refletora, que podemos chamar de discurso da arte. Por meio dessa divisão em três partes, procuraremos promover um movimento de emparedamento do memorialista no romancista. Desse modo, nossa discussão se encaminha para a defesa do argumento de que, ao final de sua carreira, Veríssimo se transforma, via memorialismo, em personagem de si mesmo, procurando com isso lhe proporcionar uma imortalidade, via literatura, que a sua própria constituição biológica só lhe poderia negar / Érico Veríssimo gave to the brazilian literature library a large fictional work. However his last contribution is a book of memories in two volumes named Solo de clarineta. We could consider it as an imperfect end because his death, that was not the author's desire, is responsible for interrupting the active of the writer. Faced with this situation, aiming to develop a propositional theory, we subdivided our approach in three parts. The first gathers the family album and the travel album, trying to make an overflight that gets together some recordation of Érico about his life in the company of people and places. The second part focuses on the library of the author, with his readings of formations, his readings of confirmations and his own contributions in the bookcase of Brazilian literature. The third and last part tries to establish a comparison between the memory written and the fictional written. For this, using the mirror's metaphor, this thesis will try to approach things that are apart, that are separated by a reflective glass film, which we can call art speech. Through this division in three parts, the thesis tries to do a movement of tying the memorialist in the novelist. This way, our discussion sustain the argument that, in the end of his career, Veríssimo wanted to be transformed in a character of himself, trying with this to get the immortality, by literature, condition that his biological constitution couldn't provide
