For the study of the seasonal variation, data were collected from February 2001 to April 2003, in two farms situated in Lages, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, when two groups of 17 adult animals each (one group per farm) were used to count fly infestation every 14 days and 1 to 7 days after the treatments. In farm I, 29,4% of the animals were treated with pour-on cypermethrin, at 5mg/kg live weight, when infestations reached an average above 200 flies. In farm II, treatments were used according to the farmer.s decision. For the Directed Control method validation, 30% of the bovine were treated with pour-on cypermethrin, at 5mg/kg live weight, when infestations reached an average over 150 flies, and it was quantified the number of H. irritans at 0, 1, 3 and 7 days after the treatment, in other two farms. The heaviest infestations occurred from November to April. Animals in farm I were treated only once, and the efficacy of the directed treatment reached 89,35%. In farm II, all animals were treated 9 times, and the efficacy of the treatments reached 98,25%. By the evaluation of the .Directed Control., it was found that the method is efficacious and more economic / A realização deste trabalho teve como objetivos conhecer a variação sazonal da Haematobia irritans no Planalto Catarinense e avaliar a eficácia do método de controle dirigido aos animais mais sensíveis ao parasitismo.
