Sun, K., Whiteside, Benjamin R., Hebda, Michael J., Fan, Y., Zhang, Y., Xie, Y., Liang, K. 25 September 2023 (has links)
Yes / Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has become a powerful tool for detecting various diseases due to its high sensitivity and specificity. However, the long thermocycling time and the bulky system have limited the application of PCR devices in Point-of-care testing. Herein, we have proposed an efficient, low-cost, and hand-hold PCR microdevice, mainly including a control module based on water-cooling technology and an amplification module fabricated by 3D printing. The whole device is tiny and can be easily hand-held with a size of about 110 mm × 100 mm × 40 mm and a weight of about 300 g at a low cost of about $170.83. Based on the water-cooling technology, the device can efficiently perform 30 thermal cycles within 46 min at a heating/cooling rate of 4.0/8.1 ℃/s. To test our instrument, plasmid DNA dilutions were amplified with this device; the results demonstrate successful nucleic acid amplification of the …

Study of Donut Type Water Cooling Element for Chip

Cheng, Yu-Wei 21 July 2004 (has links)
In recent years, the electronic chip is continuously developing in turning high performance. This trend urges the heat sink of electronic chip to become gradually important, and then that will develop many type of heat sink, which is water-cooling system. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is designing a high efficiency water-cooling element (WCE). The present study mainly aims at three points to bring up: (1) The different type chamber make use of the CFD package software FLUENT to study the pressure drop, velocity field and turbulent intensity deposition. (2) The different plank thickness, thermal conductivity and convection heat transfer coefficient use finite difference method to solve heat diffusion equation, and to confer thermal resistance value. (3) Then, machined this designed WCE and then measured its thermal resistance value. The results show: (1) The pressure drop main effect parameter is inlet velocity. (2) The thermal resistance value main effect parameter is convection heat transfer coefficient. (3) The plank thickness is inverse proportion relation with thermal resistance value. (4) The surface temperature range and mean surface temperature should become reference index in heat sink developmental process. (5) The cooling performance of Type D WCE is optimum in this paper. (6) The design is cross groove on convection surface, which should reduce thermal resistance value.

Kolaja, Adam January 2008 (has links)
This thesis deals with computing and experimental problems of direct water cooling of stator winding that is assigned in synchronous motors. A model with similar material characteristic to a real motor has been made for experiments. The computing results showed us the appropriate place for the cooling system. This place has been chosen due to maximum efficiency and cost of the cooling system. The experiments on the model showed us, if the computing results are credible.

Temperatursprickor i ung betong : Utvärdering av projektering och utförande av åtgärder, samt utveckling av dimensioneringsmetod för kylsystem / Thermal cracks in young concrete

Tilfors, Sara, Nezhad Arya, Nessa Yosef January 2011 (has links)
The report contains three parts. The first part is a summary and overall presentation of thermal cracks and preventing measures against such cracks. This is a theoretical part where the interested designer can get acquainted with various alternatives, be guided to more detailed literature, and receive some practical information regarding the design of the respective measures. The second part deals with calculation of the risk for thermal cracks and design of water cooling as a limiting measure. Two complementary methods are reviewed for efficient calculation: • the handbook method CraX1 (by Lulea University of Technology) is used for quick verification • finite differential analysis in the calculation tool ConTeSt Pro for more precise projecting Here is also presented a development of existing standards through design of the cooling system by means of the Bernoulli equation. Comparison is made with the approximation with Manning’s formula, which occurs in the field today. The calculation part is concluded with a calculation example. In addition to prescribing good project planning, the example also highlights some of the calculation programs’ possibilities and limitations. The third part of the report evaluates the current calculation of the risk for thermal cracking in young concrete, as well as the design and implementation of thereto related measures. This is done through studies of reference objects and interviews with all parts involved, i.e. clients, consultants, contractors and suppliers. The report aims to a compilation and transfer of skill and experience, so that potential for improvement in the prevention of thermal cracking can be identified, and the design can be improved with regard to the conditions of the construction phase. / Rapporten innehaller tre delar. Inovace systému chlazení točivých elektrických strojů s využitím CFD metod / Innovation of the Cooling System of Rotating Electrical Machines using CFD Methods

Sikora, Michal January 2011 (has links)
This thesis deal with design and implementation of innovative cooling method, intended primarily for medium-power synchronous generators. The main objective of this proposal is to remove the large heat exchanger connected to generator. This heat exchanger unduly increases the space requirements for the machine location. The proposed solution is to use a direct water-cooled stator. It is assumed that the rotor winding will be still cooled by air. Unlike current cooling system, the hot air from the rotor can be cooled in smaller cooler inside the generator. In this work are described methods which can be used for design of water cooling basic parameters, taking required temperatures into account. A small induction motor was selected for practical verification of the proposed cooling concept. This motor was modified into two variants - related to the old cooling of synchronous generators and related to the proposed solution. Both of these variants were measured and compared with each other. Subsequently, CFD models of these two variants were set up. Measured temperatures were used for debugging of models and identification of material properties of components of these machines. The final model of water-cooled variant also makes it possible to simulate the work of motor for higher performance and to determine the overload compared with the old cooling variant. Some knowledge and experience obtained from the small water-cooled induction machine were used in the design of water-cooling for large synchronous generator. In a similar way, CFD models of the old variant of cooling and proposed variant of water- cooling were created. Although these models were not verified by actual measurements on the generators, the results indicated that the application of water-cooling in this type of machine is appropriate and provides many benefits.

Modelagem fenomenológica do desempenho de torres de resfriamento de água acopladas e estudo de casos. / Phenomenological modeling of performance of coupled water cooling towers and case studies.

Lima Junior, Rafael Candido de 03 June 2011 (has links)
This is a study about the phenomenological modeling of the performance of a water cooling tower and a system of two cooling towers in series, with water temperature input up to 65°C. The validity of model was verified by comparing the expected results with those obtained in tests on a pilot plant. After this, through a mathematical simulation, based on the model developed, several cases of application were analyzed. It was studied the influence of main operating variables (air flow, water flow and wet bulb temperature) on the performance of couples cooling towers (in series and parallel) and on operational cost. It was verified the most influential variable is the water flow rate through the tower.
