Facilitating Web Service Discovery and Publishing: A Theoretical Framework, A Prototype System, and Evaluation

Hwang, Yousub January 2007 (has links)
The World Wide Web is transitioning from being a mere collection of documents that contain useful information toward providing a collection of services that perform useful tasks. The emerging Web service technology has been envisioned as the next technological wave and is expected to play an important role in this recent transformation of the Web. By providing interoperable interface standards for application-to-application communication, Web services can be combined with component-based software development to promote application interaction and integration within and across enterprises. To make Web services for service-oriented computing operational, it is important that Web services repositories not only be well-structured but also provide efficient tools for an environment supporting reusable software components for both service providers and consumers. As the potential of Web services for service-oriented computing is becoming widely recognized, the demand for an integrated framework that facilitates service discovery and publishing is concomitantly growing. In our research, we propose a framework that facilitates Web service discovery and publishing by combining clustering techniques and leveraging the semantics of the XML-based service specification in WSDL files. We believe that this is one of the first attempts at applying unsupervised artificial neural network-based machine-learning techniques in the Web service domain. Our proposed approach has several appealing features: (1) It minimizes the requirements of prior knowledge from both service providers and consumers, (2) It avoids exploiting domain-dependent ontologies,(3) It is able to visualize the information space of Web services by providing a category map that depicts the semantic relationships among them,(4) It is able to semi-automatically generate Web service taxonomies that reflect both capability and geographic context, and(5) It allows service consumers to combine multiple search strategies in a flexible manner. We have developed a Web service discovery tool based on the proposed approach using an unsupervised artificial neural network and empirically evaluated the proposed approach and tool using real Web service descriptions drawn from operational Web services repositories. We believe that both service providers and consumers in a service-oriented computing environment can benefit from our Web service discovery approach.

Mobile cloud computing

Wang, Qian 15 March 2011
As mobile network infrastructures continuously improve, they are becoming popular clients to consume any Web resources, especially Web Services (WS). However, there are problems in connecting mobile devices to existing WS. This thesis focuses on three of the following challenge: loss of connection, bandwidth/latency, and limited resources. This research implements and develops a cross-platform architecture for connecting mobile devices to the WS. The architecture includes a platform independent design of mobile service client and a middleware for enhancing the interaction between mobile clients and WS. The middleware also provides a personal service mashup platform for the mobile client. Finally, the middleware can be deployed on Cloud Platforms, like Google App Engine and Amazon EC2, to enhance the scalability and reliability. The experiments evaluate the optimization/adaptation, overhead of the middleware, middleware pushing via email, and performance of Cloud Platforms.

Web service matching based on semantic classification

Deng, Feng January 2012 (has links)
This degree project is mainly discussing about a web service classification approach based on suffix tree algorithm. Nowadays, Web Services are made up of WSDL web Service, RESTful web Service and many traditional component Services on Internet. The cost of manual classification cannot satisfy the increasing web services, so this paper proposes an approach to automatically classify web service because of this approach only relies on the textual description of service. Though semantic similarity calculation, we achieve web service classification automatically. Experimental evaluation results show that this approach has an acceptable and stable efficiency on precision and recall.

Verification of Web Services in Support of Choreography

Hsieh, Wen-Fan 02 June 2011 (has links)
In recent years, Web services had been widely used on the Internet. Thanks to the convenient communication technologies and their inexpensive cost, communications between organizations is much easier, and Web services have become a de-facto standard for organizations to provide information and services. There are two different perspectives to describe Web service composition: orchestration and choreography. Works that verify a choreography model so as to alleviating some correctness problem such as deadlock have also been proposed. However the verification of implementations based on a choreography model has not be addressed. In this thesis, we propose an approach to verify the conformance of a set of Web services to a given choreography model and prune some candidate Web services which do not comply with the choreography model to avoid discordance with the choreography model and run-time errors. The proposed approach is evaluated by simulating 10,000 execution sequences of composite Web services. The experimental results show that our proposed method improves the performance of success rate and space usage by pruning the unsuitable candidate Web services.

Automatic Web Service Selection for FSM-based composite Web Services

Chan, Chih-chieh 20 July 2006 (has links)
Apply Page rank-like approach to web service workflow field. At the same time, no one try to device an engine that validates a composite web service workflow by means of FSM, which has formal theoretical base. In this work, we presented an algorithm to build up the composition FSM, which is a criterion to know a composition is feasible or not. We introduce nested cycle hierarchy to address the problem that PageRank weight assignment would favor cycle structure.

En-co.de : a web service for augmenting physical objects with an active digital presence

Westing, Brandt Michael 16 December 2013 (has links)
It is now possible for physical objects to have a dynamic digital presence via active identification codes that can be scanned via ubiquitous devices such as smart phones or tablets. En-co.de is a web service for the generation, storing, retrieval, and augmentation of metadata associated with physical objects. The service is built upon the concept that metadata associated with an object can be retrieved through a Quick Response (QR) coded URL. En-co.de serves to link a physical entity to a digital archive of information and provides services such as geolocation and SMS text alerts when an object's identifier, or tag, is scanned. I provide an analysis of QR code qualitative characteristics, the architecture for the en-co.de web service, a scalability study of the en-co.de architecture, and the results of the completed service in production in this report. In addition, the analysis is complemented with an evaluation of comparable identification schemes and web services. / text

Jiskra, Filip January 2016 (has links)
Thesis deals with creation of web service which provides information about cultural events. In the beginning of thesis, there is the most relevant theory which mostly focuses on technological part of the theme. The practical part of the thesis is connected with the web service, which shows usage of knowledge gained during creation of theoretical part. There are two additional web applications. One of them is used to create and manage a user of web service and provide him im-portant information. Author calls such web application a Portal. The last one is consumer of the web service.

Vers une médiation de composition dynamique de Services Web dans des environnements ubiquitaires. / Towards a mediation of dynamic composition of web services in ubiquitous environnement

Zhang, Tuo 08 December 2014 (has links)
The user-centric approach, which aims to provide adapted services to user’s needs, is attracting a great attention thanks to the emergence of ubiquitous environment. The interoperability, either that between users and services or that among services, is favored by the adoption of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture), as a development model as well as the Web services that combine the advantages of this model with the language and development technologies devoted to Internet-based applications. In particular, the dynamic Web service composition is currently the main practice which allows achieving enhanced services, as an answer to increasing complex requests by users for various types of services, by combining functionalities of multiple services within a single and personalized service session. Indeed, already available services are numerous and of various natures, similar services can be provided by heterogeneous platforms. In a ubiquitous environment, users are mobile, either by changing the access network or by changing the terminal, or even both of them. This leads in turn to potential needs on mobility of services, both in terms of the (physical) server and in terms of the (equivalent) services. It is in this dynamic and ubiquitous context that we have conducted our research. In particular, we focused on the particular topic of mediation of dynamic composition of web services. We proposed a mediation approach which consists in identifying and organizing various concrete services (both SOAP and RESTful) to form a set of abstract services, and, from this knowledge base, to provide users the possibility to realize personalized service session according to their needs through dynamic composition of some of the abstract services and their mapping to best suited concrete services. We considered three types of service composition (SOAP/SOAP, SOAP/RESTful, RESTful/RESTful) in our mediation. Depending on the user’s will, this composition (Mashup on the side of the mediator) can be returned to him/her, so that he/she can invoke it autonomously; or the mediator can ensure the realization of the composed services and provide only the final result to the user. In the latter case, the mediator can handle the aforementioned different mobility. This feature is achieved by exploring the mechanism of the virtual community to select the most appropriate concrete service corresponding to the abstract service and maintain the continuity of service while respecting its requested QoS. The virtual community has been developed within the ANR/UBIS project (to which part of this thesis is related).
