Návrh a výstavba moderní datové Wi-Fi sítě pro ISP / Design and construction of modern data Wi-Fi networks for ISPsMATLAS, Jiří January 2012 (has links)
The topic of Wi-Fi networks (Wireless Fidelity) is widely discussed currently as there is a big boom of this technology. The Wi-Fi refers to a method of modern technology that enables wireless transmission of data between devices such as printers and mobile phones. The main objectives of the thesis are focused on the development proposal to build a modern data network for an ISP (Internet Service Provider) in the technical area. Another aim was to process and analyze the results of the newly formed economic entity and their subsequent evaluation in recent years, i.e for the years 2008 - 2011. Business plan was designed in Branišov, which is a village near Czech Budejovice in 2001. Initially, it was the agreement of two local residents who believed that the offer of an Internet connection is not ideal for this location and started to develop some "small" wireless network. At the beginning, any professional equipment was not used in this network. When connected with an increasing number of customers (about five inhabitants of Branišov), professional antennas and access points began to be used. The above mentioned five customers manage to cover all operating costs created by the network. In subsequent years, i.e. 2004 ? 2007, there was a boom of the project. The number of connected users was growing constantly, even though not conducted any marketing or promotional activities. By the end of 2006, individual users began to demand greater guarantee of a stable connection. At the same time, it also proved to be absolutely necessary to establish a specific person responsible for the network. This person was supposed to maintain the network, develop it and manage it. In 2007, the initial non-commercial network was transformed into a commercial network model and brand new commercial entity ? a limited liability company ? was created. Currently, there is a continual development of this network, which already covers a total of 30 villages around České Budějovice and Vodňany and the signal spread through 115 broadcasting Access Points.

Abstract: Wireless devices are becoming more popular. Almost any portable device nowadays has a wireless network interface and wireless access points are available at low cost for commercial or domestic use. However, the widespread of wireless networks is creating new challenges. The most critical challenge is related to the security in the access of wireless networks. The nature of wireless communications makes harder to guarantee privacy as data travels freely in electromagnetic waves. As such, wireless networks present many security breaches not found in cabled networks. Another challenge in wireless networks is to preserve the transport connections during handover. Handover is the process by which a mobile device replaces its current access point by a new one that presents a better signal to noise ratio. During handover the transport connections kept by the mobile device are compromised due to the procedures of disassociation and re-association among the access points and the updating of the mobile node's layer three parameters for its new location. This work has the objective of evaluating the impact of security in the handover overheads and to propose mechanisms by which the upper layers are notified when a handover occurs. / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Previous issue date: 2014-04-07 / CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / With the significant utilization of the Wi-Fi networks as one of the main mass media and transmission of data, some problems of traffic reliability have been related and increasing day by day. The unplanned use of Access’ Points – AP, chained to the interferences resulting from coexistence of other technologies occupying the same frequency spectrum 2.4GHz, has constantly affected the performance of these networks. In order to propose a solution to interference’s problem between networks 802.11, this work describe an approach of attribution of channels based in many aspects such as received signal strength indicator, signal-to-noise ratio, link quality and channels overlap factor. This approach, named MFDCA (Multi-Factor Dynamic Channel Assignment) is composed by detection interferences modules, as well as selection and attribution of channels. The approach attributes in a dynamic way operation of channels in the networks 802.11, considering the characteristics noted in the spectral environment where which AP is inserted. The MFDCA was developed so that to operate in low cost of access points, as long as they withstand an installation of a firmware based in Linux. The results of the tests accomplished in a pilot network show that a MFDCA is able to benefit the network as a whole, including non-administered networks, by increasing its throughput and decreasing the rate losses of packages.

Smart Client-Server Protocol and Architecture for Adaptive Multimedia StreamingAbdullah, Miran Taha 04 June 2018 (has links)
In recent years, multimedia services consumption has increased and it is expected that this trend will continue in the near future, becoming the evaluation of Quality of Experience (QoE) as a very important issue for assessing the quality of providers' services. In this sense, the optimization of the QoE is progressively receiving much attention considering that current solutions are not based on the adaptation, feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
The present dissertation is focused on the characterization, design, development and evaluation of different multimedia applications aimed to optimize the QoE.
Therefore, this work investigates the influence that the networks infrastructure, the videos' characteristics and the users' terminals present on QoE of the current Internet multimedia services. The work is based on a comprehensive research of subjective and objective assessments in heterogeneous networks. Challenges and research questions related to the state of the art are discussed in this dissertation.
In the first phase of this dissertation, we design a test methodology for assessing QoE of live video streaming and video on demand platforms to be transmitted over Wi-Fi and cellular networks. From this initial step, we will propound the related research issues and questions to solve this dissertation. Our methodology considers the use of subjective and objective metrics to evaluate the QoE perceived by end-users. A set of laboratory experiments is conducted where our proposed methodology is applied. The obtained results are gathered and analyzed to extract the relations between Quality of Service (QoS) and QoE. From the results, we propose a QoS-QoE mapping which allows predicting QoE.
In the next phase of the research, we develop QoE-optimization algorithms based on network system management for Wi-Fi and cellular networks. The algorithms use the key parameters that were taken into account for QoE assessment. The goal of these algorithms is to provide a flexible management system for the networks in order to achieve the desirable trade-off between QoE maximization and resource usage efficiency.
Lastly, the system testbed is designed in order to evaluate the performance of generic multimedia services applications for the different environments under test. The system testbed is based on virtualization approach; it uses the shared resources of a physical hardware to virtualize all components. The virtualized testbed provides virtualized network functions for the different scenarios such as the Internet (Content Delivery Networks - CDNs) and wireless networks. Therefore, lightweight protocols and agile mechanisms are adopted in the system to provide enhanced service to end-users. The QoE results are reported to the service providers according to the parameters defined in the evaluation process. As a result, we have obtained a cost-effective system, which is considered as a feasible way for test evaluation.
Abdullah, MT. (2018). An Image-based ML Approach for Wi-Fi Intrusion Detection System and Education Modules for Security and Privacy in MLRayed Suhail Ahmad (18476697) 02 May 2024 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">The research work presented in this thesis focuses on two highly important topics in the modern age. The first topic of research is the development of various image-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDSs) and performing a comprehensive analysis of their performance. Wi-Fi networks have become ubiquitous in enterprise and home networks which creates opportunities for attackers to target the networks. These attackers exploit various vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi networks to gain unauthorized access to a network or extract data from end users' devices. The deployment of an NIDS helps detect these attacks before they can cause any significant damages to the network's functionalities or security. Within the scope of our research, we provide a comparative analysis of various deep learning (DL)-based NIDSs that utilize various imaging techniques to detect anomalous traffic in a Wi-Fi network. The second topic in this thesis is the development of learning modules for security and privacy in Machine Learning (ML). The increasing integration of ML in various domains raises concerns about its security and privacy. In order to effectively address such concerns, students learning about the basics of ML need to be made aware of the steps that are taken to develop robust and secure ML-based systems. As part of this, we introduce a set of hands-on learning modules designed to educate students on the importance of security and privacy in ML. The modules provide a theoretical learning experience through presentations and practical experience using Python Notebooks. The modules are developed in a manner that allows students to easily absorb the concepts regarding privacy and security of ML models and implement it in real-life scenarios. The efficacy of this process will be obtained from the results of the surveys conducted before and after providing the learning modules. Positive results from the survey will demonstrate the learning modules were effective in imparting knowledge to the students and the need to incorporate security and privacy concepts in introductory ML courses.</p>
