Bakgrund: Var tredje människa kommer någon gång i livet att få en cancerdiagnos. Att vara ung vuxen och leva med en cancersjukdom innebär en stor livsförändring och är i många fall även livshotande. Copingstrategier och sociala faktorer är viktiga hjälpmedel för att hantera den psykologiska biten av sjukdomen. Syfte: Att belysa upplevelser av att vara ung vuxen och leva med en cancersjukdom. Metod: En litteraturstudie baserad på tio vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativ ansats. Resultat: Fyra teman framkom: Dimensioner av stöd, Coping, Psykologisk stress och Utmaningen fortsätter. Patienter upplevde olika behov av stöd och använde sig av olika copingstrategier för att hantera sin nya vardag. Olika faktorer bidrog till att patienterna upplevde psykologisk stress, vilka även kunde finnas kvar en tid efter sjukdomen. Slutsats: Patienterna har stort behov av olika typer av stöd och coping vilket upprätthölls genom bra information och begriplighet. Patienterna led av psykologisk stress vilket beskrevs genom en känsla av isolering som behövdes göras hanterbar. När behandlingen var avslutad fanns fortfarande en stor rädsla för återfall, där meningsfullhet gjorde det lättare för dem att hantera rädslor och oro. Klinisk betydelse: Ämnet kommer att bidra till en ökad förståelse om vad som är viktigt för patientgruppen unga vuxna med cancer. Med kunskapen kommer sjukvårdspersonal att kunna anpassa sin information till denna patientgrupp. / Background: One in every three people will get cancer some time during their lifetime. Being a young adult with cancer is a life changing experience, and is in many cases even life threatening. Coping strategies and social factors are important tools for managing the psychological aspects of the disease: Aim: To highlight the experiences of being a young adult living with a cancer. Method: A literature review based on ten scientific articles with qualitative approach. Results: Four themes emerged: Dimensions of support, Coping, Psychological stress and the challenge continues. Patients experienced different needs for support and used different coping strategies to deal with their new life situation. Various factors contributed to the patient’s experience of psychological stress, which could also be retained a time after the disease. Conclusion: Patients had a great need for different types of support and coping which was maintained through good information and comprehensibility. The patients suffered from psychological stress, which was described by a sense of isolation that needed to be done manageable. When treatment was completed, there was still a great fear of recurrence, where meaningfulness made it easier for them to deal with fears and concerns. Clinical significance: The subject will contribute to a better understanding of what is important for the patient group young adults with cancer.
