Sigillbilden U.9750 : Enki/Ea`s Abzus symbolism i Ur och Eridu

Vid utgrävningar utförda av brittiska arkeologer 1922 i staden Ur i Mesopotamienpåträffades i en grav ett sigill: U.9750. Hantverket är i mörkgrön steatit och är 0,036m X 0,024 m stort. Idag dateras det till den gammalakkadiska perioden ca 2250 f. Kr.Sigillet förvaras i Nationalmuseet i Irak och anses som ett av de mer betydelsefullaföremålen från perioden. Museet blev plundrat efter invasionen av Irak 2003. Det gåratt studera föremål, däribland sigillbilden U.9750 på hemsidan av Iraksnationalmuseum http://www.theiraqmuseum.com/. Stulet eller försvunnet materialfinns även publicerat i http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/IRAQ/iraq.html. Sigillet anses vara enav Mesopotamiens största konstnärliga höjdpunkter inom konsthantverk eftersombilden på sigillet U.9750 har olika mönster och figurer samtidigt är utförd i ennaturlistisk stil.

Effects of an Online Training in the Ziggurat Model on the Autism Knowledge of School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a low-incidence disorder with high impacts on individuals, families, and society. School-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have tremendous responsibilities toward individuals with ASD, but pre-service SLPs are not adequately trained to fulfill these expectations. In order to reduce the widespread financial and social impact of ASD, school-based SLPs need to complete effective training to prepare them for the selection of established social-communication practices. One framework for the selection of individualized intervention is the Ziggurat Model (Aspy & Grossman, 2008). The following study used mixed methods to investigate the research question: “Does the ASD knowledge base of ASHA-certified school-based SLPs change when they complete an online training module based upon Aspy and Grossman’s Ziggurat Model? If so, what are those changes?” A pre-test post-test control group design demonstrated a significant difference in the experimental group’s and the control group’s pre-test post-test change scores, as demonstrated by an independent samples t-test (p=.039, 18df). Qualitative data analysis resulted in six themes. While the online training of Aspy and Grossman’s Ziggurat Model used in this study was an effective method with which to train school-based SLPs in using a comprehensive framework, more rigorous research is needed on this model relative to the selection of intervention.

Babel, babble, and Babylon : reading Genesis 11:1-9 as myth

The story of the Tower of Babel (Gen 11: 1-9) has been interpreted in various ways down through the centuries. However, most commentators have ignored the genre of the text, and have not sought to interpret it within its mythological framework - therefore most interpretations are nothing short of babble. A working text is ascertained, and the complexity of the text investigated. The text is then identified as 'myth': within its mythological framework the tower is seen as a temple linking heaven and earth, ensuring the continuation of the royal dynasty (i e 'making a name'). When used by the Yahwist Levites during the Babylonian Exile, our story was inserted in the great Pre-History as polemic against the Babylonian concept of creation, temple, and dynasty; and served as both a warning and an encouragement to the Exiles. The post-exilic Priestly Writer re-interpreted our story as a warning to the returning exiles that their society, and their temple, should be reconstructed as YHWH determines. Interpreting the story as myth enables it, finally, to speak clearly into our context today, especially that of South Africa. / Biblical and Ancient Studies / D. Th. (Old Testament)
