Critical Success Factors of Operating Performance Study for Listed Electronic Companies in Taiwan

Wu, Chun-Hian 02 July 2002 (has links)
The study examines the critical success factors(CSF) of Operating Performance for the listed electronic companies in Taiwan. The listed electronic companies were divided into the higher/lower operating performance groups by financial indexes, then there are three questionnaires designed in order to get a better understanding on recognition of critical success factors and doing of critical success factors by top management. Five dimensions of CSFS are identified¡Gcapability in process and marketing, design and planning, R&D and brand, manufacturing and low-cost, technical support and raw materials support. Using statistical analysis approaches such as factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA¡Athe results of the study as follows¡G 1. There are significant differences on the two dimensions of recognition of critical success factors: design and planning, manufacturing and low-cost, between the higher/lower operating performance firms. According to the recognitions of the higher operating performance firms OEM and ODM are key points for critical success factors. 2. There are significant differences on the three dimensions of doing of critical success factors¡Gprocess and marketing, design and planning, R&D and brand between the higher/lower operating performance firms. The higher operating performance firms focus on add-value field (process and marketing, design and planning, R&D and brand). The higher operating performance firms take risk of marketing and R&D than those of the lower operating performance firms, therefore the higher operating performance firms get better performances. 3 (1) Comparing recognition of critical success factors with doing of critical success factors, the study find two dimensions of process and marketing, design and planning are significant differences for all of firms. In other words they should make improvements of two dimensions to keep up with the lead firms all over the world. (2) The higher operating performance firms should establish independent technique capability to avert the foreign firms from technique control. (3) The lower operating performance firms should focus on capability of R&D and brand. but, in fact, there is no strong evidence that the paradigm of the listed electronic companies in Taiwan.

Analysis of silicon carbide based semiconductor power devices and their application in power factor correction

Durrani, Yamin Qaisar 01 November 2005 (has links)
Recent technological advances have allowed silicon (Si) semiconductor technology to approach the theoretical limits of the Si material; however, power device requirements for many applications are at a stage that the present Si-based power devices cannot handle. The requirements include higher blocking voltages, switching frequencies, efficiency, and reliability. Material technologies superior to Si are needed for future power device developments. Silicon Carbide (SiC) based semiconductor devices offer one such alternative. SiC based power devices exhibit superior properties such as very low switching losses, fast switching behavior, improved reliability and high temperature operation capabilities. Power factor correction stage of power supplies is identified as an area where application of these devices would prove advantageous. In this thesis a high performance, high efficiency, SiC based power factor correction stage is discussed. The proposed topology takes advantage of the superior properties of SiC semiconductor based devices and the reduced number of devices that the dual boost power factor correction topology requires to achieve high efficiency, small size and better performance at high temperature. In addition to this analysis of SiC based power devices is carried out to study their characteristics and performance.

The Impact of Greenhouse Gas on Total Factor Productivity

Liu, Jeng-bin 22 July 2008 (has links)
This paper argues that a key mechanism through which greenhouse gas affects growth is via total factor productivity (TFP). We first estimate TFP based on a production function and then estimate the determinants of TFP, paying particular attention to four variables: greenhouse gas, openness of trade, inflation, saving rate ¡@¡@We major results are as follows: 1.In the fixed effect¡GThe impact of greenhouse gas and inflation on TFP to be negative, significant. The impact of openness of trade on TFP to be positive, significant. The impact of saving rate on TFP to be insignificant. 2.The relations between CO2 and TFP have in the degree change, the degree of interplay decreases progressively along with time. 3.The relationship between CO2 and TFP with the countries of OECD is lager than with the countries of Non-OECD. The impact of saving rate on TFP is significant in the countries of OECD, but insignificant in the countries of Non-OECD.

The Effect of Transition on Operation of Kaohsiung Port with Their Development Strategy

Hong, Wen-jung 27 July 2008 (has links)
Summary Taiwan is an island country. Its economic structure highly relies on the economy of the foreign trade demand. The goods of foreign trade mainly are transported by the sea. So the development of the ports has a great impact on the competitiveness of the entire country. With the trend of containerization and shipping maximization in the international ocean shipping market in recent years, every harbor faces competitions among domestic ports and challenges from neighboring foreign ports at the same time. Although the superior geographical location and the wonderful natural condition of Kaohsiung Port once made Kaohsiung the third largest container harbor in the world, it faces severe competitions from Asian-Pacific ports and the new ports in Mainland China, which have emerged in recent years. What¡¦s worse, because of the effect of the overall domestic economy and industrial structure, the ranking of Kaohsiung Port has been on the downgrade continuously: ranked eighth in the world in 2007 and would be possibly even worse as predicted. Facing the above-mentioned enormous impact, Kaohsiung Port should consider and seek a solution urgently. So this research attempts to analyze the factors of the changes in the volume of goods being transported in Kaohsiung Port, and then frame a strategy for developing the port. The main content in the study includes discussions from three levels: internal condition, external environment condition and regional factors of the port, and the analysis focuses on four aspects: development, structure, efficiency and globalization. The findings of the study are: the factors resulting in the change in the volume of goods in Kaohsiung Port include the overall economic factors, the container quantity of the transit, the emergence of the continent ports, economic and trade environment, and industrial structure. The strategy for development proposed in this research include to improve the overall economic and trade environment, to boost the increase of the transit containers, to better the facilities of the port and the efficiency of work, to increase incomes from operation and accelerate development of the area, to put emphasis on the linking among ports, global investment and management, to get rid of the excessive attention to world ranking, to advance value added and to plan for port transformation. In addition, the result of study also shows that since the port entered the fourth generation, relying mainly on containerized transport in 1990, Kaohsiung Port has been transformed slowly with the influence of international economic cultural changes. Now the harbor no longer only emphasizes on transportation but also multi-development, which pays attention to the functions of information management and knowledge economy, so the fifth generation of the port is evolving progressively.
