Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership: Implications to Global Wine Market

Antosova, Natalia 17 November 2016 (has links)
Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership was first introduced in 2013, with the goal of liberalization of the trade and investments, better coordination of trade by specific regulations, enhancing intellectual property protection and lifting governments impediments to trade. This Thesis is concerned on potential implications of the TTIP on the wine industry in the European Union and particular consequences related to EU wine producers. The literature review of this paper is developed with the purpose to bring general knowledge in the matter of the TTIP. In addition, linkages of the TTIP with the political economy are provided in the latter part of this chapter. We conducted our methodological approach through the Gravity model in the international agricultural trade. The pooled linear regression analysis was utilized, where the dependent variable was wine trade intensity. We have discovered variables, which directly affect the fluctuations in the wine trade intensity, as the income, distance, exchange rate volatility or relative wine endowment of a country. Remarkably interesting result conveyed by regression analysis was the fact, that developed countrys membership in the FTA with the United States does not have significant impact on the trade intensity. The European Union is currently battling with the wine oversupply and low prices. Within the TTIP, additional amount of wine would be imported from the United States to the European Union. In addition, the conclusion of the TTIP agreement is questionable as the harmonization of the sanitary and phyto-sanitary standards in the wine sector with the lower standards of the United States might have direct impact on consumers health. In spite of that, the cost-efficiency would be advantageous feature of lowering wine production standards. The last part of this Thesis is dedicated to the suggestions for further research, with respect to development of the TTIP negotiations in future time periods.

The economic impact of vegetable production in northeast Arkansas

Smith, Angelia D. 28 September 2016 (has links)

Across the region of Northeastern Arkansas row crop production has become the staple of agricultural production. This study evaluates potential economic impacts on the NEA region that may result from diversifying into vegetable crop production. Five vegetables, Okra, Southern Peas, Snap Beans, Summer Squash, and Sweet Potatoes are evaluated. The evaluations entail analyses of potential regional economic impacts, using IMPLAN 3.0. The results exhibit strong multiplier effects and economic contributions in the region to output, employment, value-added, and income generation. The results also show that vegetable production can be an important source of indirect and induced economic activities in the NEA region. These indicate that vegetable production can have positive impacts and linkages in the region’s economy and may not be ignored in developing economic strategies for the region.

Conceptualizing the Process of Supporting Youths' Psychological Needs and Intrinsic Motivation Within School Based Agricultural Education Programs| A Mixed Methods Study

Bowling, Amanda Michelle 15 April 2019 (has links)

The purpose of this mixed methods study was to identify the strategies, actions, and processes School Based Agricultural Education (SBAE) teachers utilize to support the psychological needs and intrinsic motivation of students. Through an exploratory sequential design, quantitative instruments were first utilized to gauge the motivational climate of the programs and the teachers’ tendencies to either be autonomy supporting or controlling. Qualitative grounded theory interviews and observations were utilized to determine the actions and processes of needs support within the program. Through the convergent analysis a substantive theory was formed which identified the process for supporting SBAE student psychological needs. Within the theory, teacher motivational beliefs emerged as the context to which the needs support process was fostered and developing and supported the need for relatedness emerged as the central phenomenon. Within the process, teachers also utilized extrinsic and intrinsic motivational strategies, along with the intracurricular nature of SBAE programs to foster and strengthen student motivation. Students experienced a range of outcomes including support for the need of competence, support and thwart for the need of autonomy, and a range of extrinsic and intrinsic motivational outcomes.

Marketing Sheep and Lambs in Utah, 1954-55

Holmes, Lloyd I. 01 May 1956 (has links)
The sheep industry of Utah bee an about the middle of the nineteenth century when the Mormon pioneers came to Utah. The first sheep in Utah were of Merino breeding kept primarily for wool production. These breeds were descendants of the early Merino sheep from Spain and were probably introduced into this country by Spanish explores. Sheep are produced to provide food and fiber in Utah. Utah's climate, topography, and natural vegetation are conducive to sheep production. Sheep do well in semi-arid climates and can economically harvest the natural vegetation on land not suited to crop production. Utah has large acreages of land of this nature and is, therefore, an important sheep producing state.
