Krajinna raného středověku a její změny s nástupem kolonizace / Krajinna raného středověku a její změny s nástupem kolonizace

Kozáková, Radka January 2011 (has links)
Landscape transformation that occurred during the Middle Ages in western and central Europe is reflected in all pollen diagrams. An event that was so striking and widespread was used by Firbas to distinguish a biostratigraphical period called the Younger Subatlantic (zone X; Firbas 1949). High Medieval landscape transformation is connected with rapid colonization in our area that resulted in extensive deforestation and intensified agriculture. During the first half of the 13th century, the settlement network was already stabilized and was very similar to the current state and was reaching also mountain areas (Klápště 1994). New organization and changes in land ownership, as well as a need for more effective agriculture, resulted in the connecting of small fields into larger ones and in an increase of cultivated area (Klápště 2006). The use of the land was different, and for the first time complete (Bakels 2009). During a few centuries anthropogenic factors that were enormously enhanced throughout the 13th century, formed a cultural landscape that was much more similar to the landscape of today than to the landscape of, for instance, the 9th century. This doctoral thesis is focused on the Early Medieval landscape in the Czech lands and its transformation that culminated during the 13th and 14th...

Study of the ecosystem of the ciliary forest of the brooks Cipà and Carrapateiras: Tauà - Ce / Estudo do ecossistema da mata ciliar nas sub-bacias dos riachos Cipà e Carrapateiras: Tauà - Ce

Ana Maria GonÃalves 07 October 2003 (has links)
The sub-basins of the Cipà and Carrapateira belong to the districts of Barra Nova and Santo AntÃnio, which are part of Tauà Town in Cearà State, Brazil. These sub-basins are situated in one of the most degraded areas in Tauà Town, according to studies of the WAVES Project. Tauà Town has 1,906.3 km of degraded areas susceptible to desertification, what represents 44.3% of the municipal area, being characterized, according to the indexes established by the United Nations Organization, as a semi-arid area with a high critical index (0.4), what expresses the fragility of the dry lands. It has the following natural geo-ecological limitations: predominance of rocks having a crystalline base, average temperature around 25ÂC to 28ÂC, enabling a high evaporation rate and, as a result, negative values in the annual water balance; shallow and stony soils; a degraded ciliary plant cover due to the secular agro-extractivist activity, favoring sediment deposition in the riverâs bed and the river marginsâ widening, what endangers the water and pedological potential of the region. The combined action of the weather, of the geological conditions and the shallow soils of the region produces a fragile ecosystem, which reflects on the vegetation in the area, in which the caducifolia formation, with an arboreous and shrubby physiognomy, is unable to offer protection to the soils against the erosive effects, as observed in the study area. Because the ciliary vegetation is seriously threatened by the inadequate soil use, there is a need of detailed studies, such as: floristic composition and structure of the community, to check the plant community's condition in its current state in order to enable its rational use and sustainability in view of the unbalance in which it is. It is worth pointing out that the protection of the ciliary forest is of utmost importance for the good condition of water resources. It is important to preserve and restore the forests along the rivers and around lakes and reservoirs because that vegetation brings lots of benefits to the ecosystem, having the function of protecting the biotic and abiotic natural resources. This way, the research had the following main objectives: a) to analyze the ecosystem of the ciliary forest of the brooks Cipà and Carrapateiras, in order to obtain indicators of environmental degradation by checking the effects of agricultural activities and of the vegetable extractivism on the conditions of the potential communities of that vegetation conditions, combining those activities with other environmental factors, and; b) to make a phytosociological survey of the ciliary forest, supplying information to a database that leads to the sustainable land use to avoid or stop the degradation process, enabling a better life quality for the local population. The phytosociological studies showed significant differences between the two sample areas, in which the forest of the brook Cipà was more conserved with specimen of the ciliary forest, while the forest of the brook Carrapateiras totally is completely uncharacterized because of the high anthropic action.

A methodology for landscape characterisation based on GIS and spatially constrained multivariate analysis

Marengo, iLaria January 2010 (has links)
Landscape is about the relationship between people and place and in 2000 was defined by the European Landscape Commission (ELC) as "an area as perceived by people whose character is the result of natural and human actions and interactions”. In the 70s the reason for studying the landscape was because of the necessity of attributing a value to it. Nowadays the motivations behind managing, conserving and enhancing the landscape is because the landscape is the place where people belong to and, consciously or not, recognise themselves. In addition, people identify different landscapes on the basis of the particular combinations of the elements in the landscape. As a consequence a landscape can be distinguished from another on the basis of its character which, according to the Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) guidance for England and Scotland (C. Swanwick and Land Use Consultant, 2002), is defined as “a distinct, recognisable and consistent pattern of elements in the landscape that makes one landscape different from the other rather than better or worse”. This definition was the starting point of a PhD research project aimed at developing and implementing a methodology able to identify and quantify the character of the Scottish landscape through the application of GIS and statistics. The reason for doing this research was to provide the landscape architects and practitioners with a tool that could help them to define the landscape character types in a more consistent, objective, and scientifically robust way. One of the objectives of the research was to identify the spatial patterns formed by the landscape elements by taking into account the influence of the spatial location. The first law of geography, which states that "everything is related to everything else but near things are more related than distant ones" (W Tobler, 1970), was transposed in the assumption of the presence of spatial autocorrelation amongst the data which contributes to form spatial patterns within the data. Since landscape comprises of many elements, data were also multivariate, thus the analysis required a method of calculation able to deal simultaneously with multivariate and spatial autocorrelation issues. MULTISPATI-PCA, a spatially constrained Principal Component Analysis, was the statistical technique applied for the analysis of the data whose results showed that it was possible to detect the spatial structure of the data and that each spatial pattern corresponded to a distinct landscape. Despite their importance in forming the character of the landscape, aesthetic and perceptual aspects were not inlcuded in MULTISPATI-PCA analysis. It was preferred to test the technique only on data that were quantifiable in a more objective way. Perhaps taking into account the human perception of the landscape can be the starting point for future investigation.

The choice of the city of Anhumas for this work was based on the representation of its surroundings, where the characteristics of the physical environment and land use have great similariedade with the regional context. Thus, the main objective is to propose a methodological adaptation of landscape theory, serving as a support for a new model of analysis and choice of sites with potential for the installation of sanitary landfills. For this, we initially fostered the literature related to the theory works and landscape analysis, geoecology, environmental planning and solid waste disposal, and then establish the elements and criteria to be used during the development of the research. In a second step, the inventory step, information about the landscape of the city were raised, registering them with the support of cartographically geographic information system SPRING, which later supported the generation units of legal restriction, synthesis of environmental fragility (Ross, 1994) and landscape. As part of the diagnostic study, mapping the ecodinâmicas units of potential instability (stable) and emergent instability (unstable) allowed to classify areas of greatest weakness, with the first classes ranging from very low (1) to very high (5) being and the second medium (3) to very high (5). These results demonstrated the escasses of location alternatives in the city of Anhumas depending on the sectors of fragility of the physical environment, together with the relevant technical and legal constraints. Aiming to synthesize all the information gathered in the study area, showed up landscape units, which represent the homologous areas of vocation or not to install the project in question. Therefore, one can conclude that this method of choosing the area for landfill provides important information to small municipalities, like Anhumas, not yet have adapted to the requirements set forth by art. 54 of National Solid Waste, choose regions with greater aptitude for installation of sanitary landfills. However, it is noteworthy that once defined the region with potential for such activity to actually install the landfill is still needed specific previous studies, which were not possible to perform a function of scale approach.

Reprezentace, proces, zkušenost: (post)industriální krajina v antropologicko-geografické perspektivě / Representation, process, experience: (post)industrial landscape in anthropological-geographical perspective

Gibas, Petr January 2016 (has links)
Representation, process, experience: (post)industrial landscape in anthropological-geographical perspective Abstract The main topic of the dissertation is the (post)industrial landscape of what is today the Czech Republic. In particular, the dissertation presents three case studies of three (post)industrial landscapes: that of Ostrava, Kladno and Most. The aim of the dissertation is twofold - thematic as well as theoretical. As far as the thematic focus of the dissertation goes, the author employs the concept of landscape as a prism through which it is possible to explore large societal shifts and changes as they are mirrored in landscape. The question is what has happened to industrial landscape after the fall of socialism and how industrial landscape has turned into what it is now. On the theoretical level, the (post)industrial landscape of contemporary Czechia is used as a means of exploring the complexity of the concept of landscape and developing a conceptualization of landscape that comes to terms with its complexity, ambiguity and elusiveness. In terms of theory, the dissertation engages with three ways of conceptualising landscape prevalent in contemporary anthropology and (new cultural) geography: landscape as representation, process and experience. To explore them in depth and reveal any...
