Fostering the Motivational Climate of a Team : A Case Study of the Organisation Environment of a Football TeamRickard, Stephen, Rickard, Matilda, Dang, Yufei January 2012 (has links)
Football management is a science that has exploded in social and economic relevance in the past years (Morrow, 2003). Management of the football team has become increasingly important and has focused on motivational aspects within a team setting. One key characteristic of a successful football manager is arguably his/her ability to motivate players within a team to often operate at and above their potential (Perry, 2000). Due to the specialisation of football management in motivational aspects within a team setting, football management offers potential insights for general management practice regarding maximising performance from members of a team. In this investigation, the organisation environment of a football team, which is the managerial formed organisational factors such as team structure, processes and communication patterns, will be assessed in relation to its ability to motivate team members through motivational theories (LaFasto & Larsson, 2001). This investigation took an explorative nature, aiming to contribute to existing literature within team management practices. Interviews with football managers and surveys with football players contributed with new findings into a science that has experienced limited previous research (Forslund, 2010). This investigation found that football management employs a number of practical techniques to promote a positive motivational climate within their teams. Members of football teams are largely positively motivated due to management’s ability to clarify roles, responsibilities, expectations, values and goals. Therefore, promoting a collective identity, that is supported by management to constantly improve and develop.

Humanitarian Intervention in Ethnic Conflict in light of Kosovo吳素蘭 Unknown Date (has links)
Humanitarian intervention has always been one of the most controversial issues in the international relations community. One of the reasons for being so controversial is because of difficulty in judging a state’s true motivation to intervene. Third party involvement in internal ethnic conflict has generated much interest especially in post Cold War period. They became the interveners of intra-state conflict disputes in order to minimize the potentials for human rights abuses, instability and violence. However looking back at the inconsistency of the action from the third parties by intervening in one area but not in another one, put into doubts the “pure” nature of humanitarian intervention. A close look to conceptual and empirical level of humanitarian intervention in ethnic conflict helps to understand better the real motivations that drive the third parties to intervene in order to give an end to the internal disputes.
This thesis suggests that realist-liberalist perspectives are the best paradigms which can explain the controversial aspect of the humanitarian intervention. The detailed analyses of the case study of Kosovo and the comparison with the ethnic conflict in Rwanda has illustrated that there doesn’t exist such a concept as “pure humanitarian intervention” but a mixture of motivations and aims are involved in these humanitarian emergencies.

This master thesis explores the teacher’s pedagogical work for motivating high school students’ interest in math. Recently the media has been reporting on how Swedish pupils loose motivation and interest for school. More and more students drop out of high school because they find school meaningless. Moreover, many studies, such as PISA, show that students’ educational level in subjects such as mathematics is decreasing. In the National Curriculum for 2011 (Lgr 11) the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) held teachers accountable for motivating students to learn. The classroom environment that high school teachers meet has many obstacles that affect education negatively, such as low motivation from primary school, the students’ knowledge of math from the previous school is inadequate, or students are on different skill levels. The purpose of my study is to examine how high school mathematics teachers work to create interest and motivation for mathematics, which factors teachers believe may increase students’ interest in mathematics and how teachers adapt their teaching to accommodate all students. The results of my study show that many students starting high school have lost their motivation for mathematics in primary school. These unmotivated students do not see the meaning to learn math and find mathematics as a difficult subject. According to the respondents there is a challenge to renew their interests for mathematics once again, and make math challenging and exciting. Teachers can improve motivation by being positive end changing study techniques. The teachers interviewed in the study report consistently that the most effective strategies are teaching by understanding and applying the knowledge to students’ daily lives.
