Ralph Vaughan Williams was a strong advocate for adapting his compositions to suit the needs of various ensembles. He often arranged his choral compositions for several different voicings, allowing them to be performed by mixed, men’s, and women’s choruses. He also frequently offered reduced instrumentation accompaniment options to
fit the personnel and budget restraints of these choirs.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the male chorus transcription techniques
used by Ralph Vaughan Williams in transcribing his composition for chorus and
orchestra, Five Mystical Songs, from SATB to TTBB voicing. The culmination of this
research is a modern day transcription of Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem for
men’s chorus, brass septet, organ and percussion. This transcription adds to the men’s choral repertoire and increases the work’s accessibility for school and community
choruses by creating a reduced accompaniment that maintains the flavor of the original

Method verification for aldosterone and renin assay - a reliable screening test for primary aldosteronismCsonka, Enikö January 2018 (has links)
Primary aldosteronism (PA) is a common form of secondary hypertension with an international prevalence rates between 5 and 10 %. It is characterized by a high autonomous aldosterone production that causes cardiovascular damage, renin suppression, hypertension, sodium retention, potassium excretion and hypokalemia. The screening of PA is a simple test measuring aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR) with immunoassay method. This test is currently considered as the most reliable screening tool for PA. The main objective of the study was to evaluate an ELISA-method, for detection of aldosterone and renin in blood plasma, to be used for routine analysis in the laboratory. The second aim was to investigate the effect of refreezing samples, considering that cryoactivation of prorenin might occur. One hundred blood samples were analysed, in regard to aldosterone and renin, by using two commercial ELISA assays (DRG ELISA from DRG Diagnostics, Germany) on a Dynex DS2 instrument. In addition, the accuracy and precision of the methods were calculated. The effect of refreezing was investigated with a series of eight samples, which were analyzed twice on the same instrument. Both assays performed well. The resulting data showed good precision and accuracy. The correlation between the original and refreezed samples was good, r = 0.989 and r = 1.0 for aldosterone and renin respectively. Considering that the study only included eight samples, further investigation is recommended. Evaluation showed that both immunoassays are reliable in diagnostic use and the ELISA-method is suitable to implement in the laboratory for routine analysis.

Les activités industrielles peuvent induire des risques de nature diverse, voire conduire à des événements catastrophiques. De façon à réduire ces risques à des niveaux acceptables, à en limiter les coûts aussi bien humains, matériels que financiers et à respecter la réglementation, il est crucial d’en prévenir la survenue (prévention) et à identifier des situations anormales en fonction d’informations récupérées sur le terrain. Ceci nécessite de résoudre deux points essentiels : détecter l’anomalie et faire un diagnostic, d’où l’importance des modèles de bon comportement qui modélisent des systèmes physique réels et les méthodes associées permettant d’effectuer la surveillance en continu. L’approche la plus utilisée dans la communauté FDI est l’approche structurelle qui consiste à construire des relations de redondance analytique (RRA). Le principe de l’approche structurelle est de prendre en compte seulement l’existence des relations entre les variables induites par les équations du modèle. En basant sur cette approche, ma thèse consiste à trouver une réponse qui satisfait un triple objectif :1. Extraire les relations valides à partir du modèle de bon comportement d'un système afin de prendre en compte l'évolution du système en éliminant les relations et des mesures invalides ayant pour but d'effectuer le diagnostic en ligne2. Construire, en utilisant une analyse symbolique couplée avec la théorie des graphes, les relations de redondance analytique symboliques (RRAS) pour la détection des défauts dans le système.3. Evaluer ces RRAS en utilisant le calcul par intervalle, an de prendre en compte les incertitudes présents dans les mesures, lors des tests de cohérence. / Large-scale complex process plants are safety-critical systems where the real-time diagnosis is very important. In a model based systems engineering approach, the structured development process from the concept to the production to the operation phase is organized around a coherent model of the system. This model contains, in particular, relations about the behavior of the system that could have been used for simulation in the design phase. The objective of this work is to use this information to design automatically on-line diagnosis algorithms using the hybrid dynamical information part and sensor measurements of the system model. In this thesis, the proposed approach allows:To extract the valid relations of system behavior to take into account system evolution by eliminating invalid constraints and measurements for establishing an on-line diagnosisTo build, using symbolic analysis and graph path search, analytical redundancy relations for the various system configurationsTo evaluate these ARRs in using set valued computations (interval arithmetic) to take into account model and measurements uncertainties

Practical Aspects of Playing Domenico Scarlatti's Keyboard Sonatas on the Guitar, a Lecture Recital, together with Three Recitals of Selected Works by W.A. Mozart, M. Ponce, A. Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, J. Turina and OthersQuantz, Michael O. 05 1900 (has links)
The ornamentation in the keyboard sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti is investigated in light of evidence from late seventeenth and early eighteenth century Spanish treatises and collections. Additionally, calligraphic and statistical evidence from the earliest known manuscripts and printed source for the keyboard sonatas is explored. The study is focused on three ornaments--the appoggiatura, trill, and tremulo--and concludes that: the appoggiaturas in this repertoire were short unless cadential or present in a cantabile tempo, in which case they could be one-third to two-thirds the value of the resolution note; trills were begun on the main note unless preceded by a grace note; tremulo was usually an alternation of a main note with its lower neighbor note and this ornament is normally indicated at points of harmonic prolongation. The last chapter discusses general approaches to arranging these works for the guitar and the specific influence of ornamentation on the performance of the sonatas on guitar. Details from eight sonatas arranged for the guitar are used to exemplify the conclusions of the research.
