Creativity & Leadership : The introduction of creative internal communication practices in organizations

Vétillart, Guillaume January 2014 (has links)
This thesis investigates the impacts of introducing creative experiences in a rigid organization. Based on the methodology suggested by Strauss and Corbin (1998) I have conducted a qualitative study through 8 semi-structured interviews of heterogeneous profiles in an organization where I worked for two years as an apprentice. Specific creative experiences were introduced in order to improve the internal communication, facilitate an organizational change transition and sustain a better social climate. I aimed at understanding the impacts resulting from experiencing such activities both at an individual and organizational level. My findings reveal three positive categories (well-being, corporate affiliation and organizational change facilitation) and three negative categories (individual irritations and a lack of coherence with the corporate identity). I conclude my work with the possible reasons justifying unexpected negative results, stating that trustworthy leadership and the corporate culture are essential when introducing such collaborative activities. My thesis might contribute to the discussions of creative problem solving for the sake of communication and values-added resulting from creative interventions in organizations.

Águas errantes: uma narrativa sobre o rio Tamanduateí, a cidade e a arte / Wandering waters: a narrative about the Tamanduateí river, a city and an art

Melo, Berta de Oliveira 15 May 2017 (has links)
This research project aims to explore in an essay form the dialogue between art, the city and the rivers. It focuses on the Tamanduateí river for its importance for São Paulo history and for the abundant artistic depictions of the river. Today, as happens with the majority of streams and rivers in the metropolis, Tamanduateí undergoes a process of degradation and invisibility. Works of art, in turn, cast light upon a today marginalized landscape. Analysis is divided in three periods associated with the formation and modifications of Tamanduateí: the winding river, the rectified river and the confined river. The first goes back to the period of the indian river, of the first white settlers and depictions of traveling artists such as Ender, Debret, Burchell, Pallière, Hildebrandt, among others. The second period follows more intensive interventions made in the riverbed from the middle of the 19th century onwards and the transition from province to modern city under the point of view of Augusto Militão, Almeida Júnior, Benedito Calixto, Jules Martin, Antonio Ferrigno, Vicenzo Pastore, the Santa Helena Group and many others. The confined river shows how comtemporary art deals with the Metropolis today through many means and its relationship with Tamanduateí river, this waterbody between life and death, walled in by Avenida do Estado. Artists such as Evandro Jardim, Paulo Penna, Zezão, Danilo Zamboni, Héctor Zamora, Camila Bronizeski and the collectives Aqui Passa um Rio, PerformAtiva, Bloco Fluvial do Peixe Seco, Trupe Sinhá Zózima and Território B are significant examples of interventions on the Tamanduateí river during the last few decades. Bringing together various looks and periods of the river have the objective of understanding more deeply transformations made in this place and its importance for the considerations regarding the metropolis.

Identitet i arbete(t) : Chefers reflektioner om arbetets dimensioner / Identity at work : Managers’ reflections about dimensions at work

Zambrell, Katarina January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to identify, describe and develop the understanding of what aspects at work are important for individuals' identity construction. In this understanding-oriented study the empirical data consists of three different groups: middle managers, cultural workers and “Airis-managers”. I have interpreted and analysed the 75 respondents’ stories, and in their experiences found similar patterns. My conclusion is that there are different dimensions at work that may affect the identity construction. My research question: What is it about work that is experienced as important for individuals’ identity construction? can be answered with the five different identity-related dimensions that I have identified: the enabling dimension, the legitimating dimension, the strengthening dimension, the touching dimension and the constraining dimension. All these dimensions, except the constraining dimension, contribute positively to identity construction. The constraining dimension can be compensated if the other positively confirming dimensions dominate. The identity construction for each individual appears different depending on what dimensions he/she experiences. That is why work’s impacts on the individual's identity construction vary. In order to illustrate the developed typology of identity-related dimensions, I created a model that aims to facilitate understanding of what aspects at work that may be important for the personal identity. When raising awareness of these dimensions, efforts to strengthen the most important dimensions can be made. Through their leadership and ways of organizing work, managers may influence their employees’ opportunities to construct and strengthen their identity. Much of the identity research discusses the more conscious identity work. In my third study my empirical data consists of managers’ who have brought artists into their organizations, i.e. conducted an artistic intervention called Airis. My interpretation is that implementing an artistic intervention can be considered as a way to challenge and develop the managers’ identity and be a part of their identity work. This thesis deals with “identity at work” (to reconnect to the title). People seldom discuss “identity construction” but that does not mean that identity issues are unimportant. On the contrary, people often talk about their jobs and their work experiences. What this "talk" really means is what this thesis highlights: Identity is constructed and confirmed at work, especially when others are told about the work-related experiences.
