No. of bitstreams: 1 Resumo - Claudemir carvalho.pdf: 30337 bytes, checksum: cec0b031ed734679cb6e0604a451360f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this study, the primary recycling of ABS Poli(acrilonitrile butadiene styrene) inside the industry was the main subject of the analyses. Many studies have been running on recycling of end life cycle of manufactured products, however a source of rejects inside the industry can be explored and be used to reduce costs and optimize expensive raw materials. Each kilogram of rejects inside the productive cycle that is recycled for the same part that was destined, represents a economy for the company and a benefit to the environment too. The ABS as commodity has been target of a lot of studies how much to its performance in the product and also how much to the recycling of rejects from the end of life cycle products as lower requests products. In fact, the present study has as the material object a specific grade of ABS used in the industry of refrigerators. Has also the objective to evaluate the behavior of the virgin ABS with ABS scrap and to reintroduce it in the productive process for the same application that was destined. It was evaluated the chemical, mechanical, rheological and thermal properties of mixtures of the virgin ABS with scrap in five different concentrations. This ABS is used for injection process and the material scrap was carefully gotten and mixed mechanically to the virgin ABS. The samples had been characterized by Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), mechanical tensile testing, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) and rheometry. The values of elasticity modulus (E), maximum tensile and elongation at break remained steady with the addition of scrap. The viscosity of the ABS measured by capillary rheomether reduced with the addition of scrap, accordingly with the increase of shear rate and temperature. From the results of flow index obtained with the Plastometer it was possible to determine the end correction of Bagley (e). Using this correction it was possible to correct the viscosity curves, however it was not possible to define a commom index for the hole temperatures. The FTIR spectra had not indicated significant changes in the concentration of the characteristic components, only to styrene in most than 20% scrap, as well as had not pointed out the starting of degradation. The glass transition temperature presented a reduction with the addition of scrap and the starting loss of mass temperature remained steady with the addition of scrap.

From violent opposition to creative opportunism: humor-driven positive affect and the Mormon cartoons of Calvin Grondahl and Pat Bagley

Cropper, Lynne Gorton 01 May 2014 (has links)
In 1844, Mormon Church leader Joseph Smith and others acted against disparaging media coverage by destroying the printing press of the Nauvoo Expositor . Today, the Church reacts differently to disparaging media such as purchasing full-page ads in the playbills of the controversial Broadway musical, “The Book of Mormon;” telling viewers now that they have seen the musical, they should read the book, because the book is always better. The ads include an offer for a free Book of Mormon. Clearly something has changed. This paper demonstrates that the Mormon cartoon books of Calvin Grondahl and Pat Bagley, published from 1978 to 1987, had a significant impact on the general membership of the Church and were influential in changing the Church's negative, guarded stance to a more positive, transparent one which is manifest in the Church's recent approach to dealing with disparaging media coverage. These cartoon books had short-term and long-term positive affect on the Church's general membership which served to decrease situational stress while increasing creativity in dealing with this stress. Using the humor models put forth by Eric J. Romero and Anthony Pescosolido in their 2008 study and Christopher Robert and James E. Wilbanks in their 2012 study this paper suggests that the psychologically-safe, humor-supportive environment created by the Mormon cartoons books of Grondahl and Bagley helped the general membership of the Church cope with tension caused by negative media content and facilitated risk-taking behaviors that have led to a creative opportunistic approach to disparaging media. Furthermore, this case study of Mormon humor demonstrates the efficacy of the humor models put forth by Romero, Pescosolido, Robert and Wilbanks and expands their findings by showing that the additional humor events spawned by the initial event are multi-faceted and much more complex than was implied in the studies.

Toward a Rationale for Music Education in the Public School Context Framed with both Progressive and Essentialist Considerations: Operationalizing the Ideas of William Chandler Bagley

Price, Benjamin J., 1980- 05 1900 (has links)
In music education, aesthetic education and praxial music education serve as two major, guiding philosophical frameworks, yet supporters of each often conflict with one another. Furthermore, both are slightly problematic with respect to the specific context of the public school. Each framework is primarily music-based, however, music education has existed in the wider context of general education since the 1830s. Given the recent core-status designation for music education, as part of all fine arts, in the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, a framework from general education that supported music education could offer benefits for the domain. However, the wider context of general education is messy as well. Two groups occupy most of the space there, and remain locked in a fundamental disagreement over the purpose of a formal education. The progressive educators, historically framed by Dewey and Thorndike, contend that education functions as societal improvement. In contrast, the essentialists contend that education functions as cultural transmission. Therefore, a more specific need for music education involves selecting a framework from general education that resolves this conflict. The writings of William Chandler Bagley indicate that he balanced both considerations of a formal education while also advancing his notion of essentialism. Bagley differed from the progressive educators predominately associated with Dewey over definitions and ideas surrounding a democratic education. Emergent points of contrast with Thorndike include distinctions between social efficiency and Bagley's alternative idea of social progress. Bagley also diverged from other essentialists over definitions concerning liberal and cultural education. To make these viewpoints of Bagley explicit, I describe characteristics of a progressive education, and an essentialist education separately, before introducing Bagley. Finally, I apply Bagley's ideas into the domain of music education. Ultimately, I contend that through common outcomes of creativity, competition, and literacy, the domain of music education can remain securely grounded in the values within the public schools.

Kvalitativní a numerická analýza zlomkových diferenciálních rovnic / Qualitative and numerical analysis of fractional differential equations

Zemčíková, Michaela January 2013 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with fractional differential equations. One of the aims of this thesis is to mention summary of basic types of fractional differential equations. It is very difficult to find their exact solution, hence we will analyze the main qualitative properties of solution, which are stability and asymptotics. Part of the text will be devoted to fractional difference equations, i.e. discussion of numerical solution. At the end of thesis the Bagley-Torvik model will be described with respect to qualitative properties and numerical solution.
