The housing of soldiers in military barracks, with particular reference to Nigeria

Abdurrahman, Suraj A. January 1985 (has links)
The research traces the housing of soldiers in Military Barracks from the time of the Roman Army, and by examining the Contemporary Military Establishment, identifies the changes that have occurred. It notes the advancement in the technology of warfare which necessitates the recruitment of a higher calibre of men into the Military. The survey methodology establishes the use and nature of the questionnaire and the priority evaluation game which was developed to obtain the soldiers' housing priorities. The data collected by the survey from a sample of soldiers is analysed, in order to understand their attitudes towards existing Barrack housing and to identify their expectations in an ideal Barrack housing. The findings show a general dissatisfaction with the existing housing and a preference for the semi- detached house with private backyard. Furthermore, the result indicates that the individual's dissatisfaction with the existing housing is associated with his level of education. The implications resulting from the majority of soldiers now being married are discussed so far as the provision of satisfactory living conditions for troops and their families affect morale and loyalty.

Report on internship at Jackson Barracks Military Museum

Amerski, Stan 01 November 2002 (has links)
From July through November 2002, the internship which I have been engaged in at Jackson Barracks Military Museum has afforded me opportunity to gain practical experience in both the curatorial and preparatory aspects of museum operations. Jackson Barracks Military Museum is part of a larger state agency, "The Military Directorate" and its governing board is appointed in accordance with state law. Jackson Barracks Military Museum is presently being restructured to acquire certification from the U.S. Army Center of Military History Museum Division. Katz in "Museum Trusteeship: The Fiduciary Ethic Applied" The Journal of Arts Management and Law (73) writes that the museum community has been compelled to develop codes of ethics and sound practices and procedures for their board members, and museum management. This effort will bring this State Museum more in line with the requirements of the American Association of Museums for certification. I was and am pleased to have had the opportunity to take part in this effort which required a complete tum around in how the organization approached its mission. I will detail areas of responsibility given to me, and my contributions to the ongoing effort to become the first National Guard agency to acquire certification.

The forts on Hadrian's Wall : a comparative analysis of the form and construction of some buildings

Taylor, David J. A. January 1999 (has links)
The thesis undertakes a comparative analysis of some of the stone buildings within the forts of the completed concept of Hadrian's Wall. The buildings included are the principia, granaries, gates and barracks. Each building type has been measured and inspected on site, or the data obtained from archival or documentary sources. As a background to the study the forts are set in the context of the Wall, examining its structure, garrisons and taking an overview of the archaeological record, additionally general Roman building techniques are reviewed. The selected buildings within each fort are then discussed and compared with other buildings on the Wall, or on other military sites. In this way then- form, dimensional analysis, construction sequence and building techniques are considered and discussed. Common features and major differences are highlighted in the forts and the buildings, and comparisons drawn. Some tentative links are made as to the builders of the forts and the probable use of standard units of measure. Reconstructions of the buildings are put forward, taking into account the archaeological evidence and architectural considerations. Supporting information supplied in the appendices includes data relating to each fort as well as schedules of dimensions of the buildings, together with comparative tables. A catalogue of the decorated and moulded stonework sets out and discusses the stonework from the various buildings.
