Annotated bibliography of selected unaccompanied alto saxophone literature.

Trittin, Brian Lynn. January 1993 (has links)
This document annotates 23 unaccompanied alto saxophone compositions, including original works and transcriptions. Selection of these pieces was based on the following criteria: (1) works which are commonly performed, (2) works by major composers, and (3) works which are important in terms of innovative performance techniques. Each annotation provides a synopsis of the composition, biographical information about the composer, pertinent information about the composition (dedication, duration, etc.), discussion about various performance considerations, a brief analysis, and concluding statements about the work including a qualitative assessment. Compositions annotated in the document include: Caprice en forme de valse by Paul Bonneau, Mai/ by Ryo Noda, Sonate by Jeanine Rueff, Suite Francais by Pierre Max Dubois, and the Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1 by J. S. Bach arr. Londeix, and arr. Ricker (both editions are discussed). At the conclusion of the document, a bibliography of approximately 300 unaccompanied compositions for the alto saxophone (including commonly performed transcriptions) is listed, providing the title, composer, and publisher (if available).

A Framework for Benchmarking in the Public Sector Literature Review and Directions for Future Research

Dorsch, Jeffrey J., Yasin, Mahmoud M. 01 January 1998 (has links)
The literature related to benchmarking since the year 1986 is examined, classified, and analyzed. A total of 415 articles, abstracts, and books are considered for this investigation. The status of benchmarking processes, activities, practices, and developments is examined for the manufacturing, service, and public sectors, while conclusions related to the state of benchmarking are drawn, gaps are identified, and recommendations are made. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of benchmarking in the public sector, with both an example that illustrates the utility of applying benchmarking to the public sector and a set of conceptual frameworks provided.

Operations management research: contemporary themes, trends and potential future directions

Taylor, Andrew, Taylor, Margaret January 2009 (has links)
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the contemporary research themes published in IJOPM in order to contribute to current debates about the future directions of operations management (OM) research. Design/methodology/approach All 310 articles published in IJOPM from volume 24 issue 9 in 2004 through volume 29, issue 12 in 2009 are analysed using content analysis methods. This period of analysis is chosen because it represents all the articles published in issues for which the authors are able to have full control, during their period of tenure as Editors of the journal. This analysis is supplemented by data on all 1,853 manuscripts submitted to the journal during the same time period and further, by analysis of reviews and feedback sent to all authors after review. Findings The paper reports the main research themes and research methods inherent in the 310 published papers. Statistics on the countries represented by these papers and the size and international composition of author teams are provided, together with the publication success rates of the countries that submit in the highest volumes, and the success rates associated with the size of the author team. Finally, data on the reasons for rejection of manuscripts are presented. Research limitations/implications There is some residual inaccuracy in content analysis methods, whereby, in extracting research themes there is often more than one topic covered. In the same vein, as regards categorisation of the causes of rejection of manuscripts during the review process, there is frequently more than one reason for rejection, so perhaps a weighted scoring system would have been more insightful. In determining the country of origin of papers, while the country of the corresponding author is used, it should be recognised that some studies originate from international collaborations so that this method may give a slightly distorted picture. Finally, in computing publication success rates by comparison of submissions and published papers there is a time delay between the two data sets within any defined period of analysis. Practical implications The analysis adds generally to debates about contemporary research themes; in particular it extends the work of Pilkington and Fitzgerald, which analyses all articles solely in IJOPM between 1994 and 2003. In addition, the findings suggest a need for more frequent exploitation of multiple research methods, for greater rigour in the planning and execution of fieldwork, for greater engagement with the world of OM practice and finally, consideration of how OM research can address wider social and political issues. Originality/value This paper represents an inside view of the publication process from a leading OM journal; this kind of insight is rarely available in the public domain.

An Annotated Bibliography of Lee, Otway, and Rowe, 1900-1974

Sherman, Margaret Christina 12 1900 (has links)
To provide an annotated bibliography of criticism on the writings of Nathaniel Lee, Thomas Otway and Nicholas Rowe from 1900 to 1974 for students and scholars is the purpose of this study. The bibliography contains brief evaluations of each of the works, which are divided into the following categories: articles, books and chapters in books, and dissertations. An additional chapter includes those works which deal with two or more of the authors. The appendix contains a selected list of foreign language publications that concern the three playwrights.

An annotated bibliography of solo marimba music by Canadian composers, 1981-2006

Donkersgoed, Jeffrey Jerry 31 March 2010 (has links)
This study catalogues the repertoire for solo marimba by Canadian composers from 1981-2006. It is the first annotated bibliography of this musical tradition. As such, it will be used by educators, students, and performers of all levels. The annotated bibliography includes publication information, general performance issues, and other comments specific to an individual work. The information was gathered exclusively from the websites of composers, performers, and publishers, the online editions of The Encyclopedia of Music in Canada or The Canadian Music Centre, and by examining the scores of the annotated compositions. By providing this information in a single volume, it is the hope that this study will increase the research on and performance of Canadian marimba music both nationally and internationally since many of the annotated works are virtually unknown. As with any reference tool, there were many decisions to be made regarding the scope of the volume. Canadian composers are defined as those who were born in Canada or those who now reside in Canada. Only solo marimba compositions on file at The Canadian Music Centre and works produced by composers who are members of the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada were selected for this study. This limitation assumes that publications are easily obtainable by interested parties through individual publishers or by way of the free-loan service offered by The Canadian Music Centre. Marimba concertos and marimba solos with tape or electronics are also included for a total of seventy compositions. However, chamber compositions that feature the marimba in an important musical role are excluded as it would make the guide too long and cumbersome; 113 works are listed separately in the Appendix for reference. Each annotation may include the date and place of composition, publication information, the number of pages of music, the place, date and performer of the premiere performance, a composer, performer, or publisher's note (if available), the duration, number of movements, the range of the instrument required, instrumentation (i.e. concertos) and a discussion of the technical requirements. Call numbers for works available from The Canadian Music Centre will be included as well as available recordings, including archival recordings available through The Canadian Music Centre. My analysis of the bibliography suggests that marimba composition in Canada is very eclectic and diverse. The repertoire offers a range of styles suitable for beginning, intermediate, and advanced performers.
