The thesis deals with the mutual correspondence (with its part from the years 16641667) of a Jesuit Bohuslav Balbín (16211688) and a Premonstratensian Johannes Alois Hackenschmidt (16261683), a canon of monastery of Teplá and a secretary of abbot Rajmund Wilfert (†1670). Preserved correspondence of that time consists of 41 Balbín's and 39 Hackenschmidt's letters. Hackenschmidt was sending information of the history of monasteries of Teplá and Chotěšov and transcripts and excerpts of charters found in archives of these monasteries; Balbín was informing Hackenschmidt about the past of the Lords of Guttenstein. The thesis brings information on the life of both correspondents, summarizes the content of their correspondence and comments on their relationship. Finally, eight Balbín's and six Hackenschmidt's letters, provided by a commentary, are edited in the final part of the work.

AN ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE This diploma thesis regards poems of Bohuslav Reynek and Pierre Jean Jouve with a prism of fire and blood motives. The analysis is focused on their early works, i.e. on Bohuslav Reynek's Thirsts and Pierre Jean Jouve's Les Noces. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical and the practical ones. The theoretical part gives the view into problematics of blood and fire motives. It is encouraged with several theories, such as literary (Bachelard), psychoanalytic (Jung) and theological (Spidlik). The second chapter of theoretical part sums up already existing perception of the analysed texts, with the main focal point on the motives. This aim fulfils either Med's and Putna's interpretations of Reynek or Pic's and Kelly's interpretations of Jouve. The main part of the diploma thesis is then seen in the analysis of motives itself. The author of the diploma thesis searches for different representations of these motives, e.g. flaming tongues of fire (the symbol of the Holy Spirit), a pierced heart of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary equally as their mixing, such as flaming heart, bloody sun etc. In the results of this diploma thesis there is summarised the analysis of these topoi - fire and blood and their different realisations in each work of the poets. Kateřina Řeháková Searching for staging tradition of Bohuslav Martinů's opera Julietta on Czech stages Abstract The master's thesis depicts all productions of Bohuslav Martinů's opera Julietta on Czech stages since the world premiere in Prague in 1938 till the last one, performed in Brno in 2009. It describes staging techniques and their transformations and shows how the productions make use of other productions' methods or how they are original. The pivotal production was the very first from 1938 produced by conductor Václav Talich, stage director Jindřich Honzl and set designer František Muzika who - in harmony - created a performance, which was considered perfect by the composer himself. Jindřich Honzl came up with the crucial staging dilemma which impacted next directors as well: to stage Julietta rather as a dream or more as a realistic story? The directors who were able to find a balance were more successful.

A number of renown poets and writers were born in the Czech Vysocina area and continued to return there throughout their lives. This thesis aims to compare the works of four Czech poets which feature reflections of the Vysocina region. In his collection of poems "Greetings to the sun", Jan Zahradnicek focuses on the sun as it shines upon the region and assists local inhabitants in their work. In his lyrical prose "I shall return there..." Frantisek Halas reveals incredible nature scenery as he introduces seasonal changes in the region. In Bohuslav Reynek's collection of works named "The sawing of loneliness" the region becomes the setting of the poet's conversation with God. In his collection of works titled "Springs opening" Miloslav Bures portrayed the annual tradition which every year renewed man's relationship with life giving nature.

This thesis focuses on the image of Emperor and King Charles IV of Luxembourg in the Czech humanistic historiography of the 16th century. Firstly, the sources of this work and literature dedicated to the topic are introduced. The genre of the chronicle, history and historical chronicle are defined and are supported by academic literature. Following, humanism in the Czech and European environment is further discussed. The history of humanistic literature in a Czech environment and the history of humanistic historiography of this area are also presented. The main focus is dedicated to authors and their work, specifically those that are the sources of this thesis. Work such as Aeneas Silvius Bartholomeus Piccolomini (pope Pius II), his work Historia Bohemica and his three early modern history translations into the Czech language, done by Jan Húska, Mikuláš Konáč of Hodiškov and Daniel Adam of Veleslavín. Authors who have also published it in his book Kroniky dvě o založení země české. Work which also included an introduction written by him, that is further discussed in the thesis. Písňová tvorba J. B. Foerstera: Šest písní na básně Puškinovy op. 161 / Works of Songs by J. B. Foerster: The Six Songs Based on Puskin's Poems Op. 161Tománková, Jana January 2011 (has links)
The song genre constitutes a significant part of J. B. Foertser's work (around 350 songs). In the Czech musical context, Foerster is along with Vítězslav Novák considered a founder of modern Czech song. Despite its unquestionable significance, Foerster's song output remains an unexplored area in musicology. The aim of this diploma thesis is to contribute to the body of scholarship devoted to Foerster by focusing on this area of his work, which has not received adequate critical attention. The main part of the thesis consists of detailed musical-textual analyses of the song cycle Šest písní na básně Puškinovy op. 161 (1937). Through the analyses, the thesis examines the composer's approach to the setting texts to music and points out the qualities of his work. The discussion gives an overview of Foerster's song output and outlines the main critical concerns in this area of his work. The last but one chapter of the thesis compares opus 161 with selected Foerster's song cycles from his previous work periods and an attempt is made to put the opus into the context of the composer's song output as a whole. In the conclusion, opus 161 is discussed in the context of the Czech and, more generally, European song productions.

Bohuslav Martinů - Voják a tanečnice / Bohuslav Martinů - The Soldier and the DancerVelická, Eva January 2014 (has links)
The first opera by Bohuslav Martinů (from the total of 16) named Voják a tanečnice (The Soldier and the Dancer), H. 162 was created in the initial years of Martinů's stay in Paris (1926-1927), when the effort to reflect different contemporary music trends and influences can be traced in his compositions. Voják a tanečnice is an original example of absorbing such influences on the background of the three-act comic opera. Together with the librettist, Jan Löwenbach, they tried to create a "new opera buffa", which was however not understood by the contemporary reviewers. The opera was first performed in Brno in 1928. The frequency of the first performances of Martinů's stage works in the National Theatre in Brno indicates that the first performance of his first opera was not a coincidence but a part of targeted dramaturgy at the Brno stage. The opera follows both the tradition of an opera and tendencies in art of the 1920's, e. g. playing with humour in music, the epic theatre inspirations or using ancient theme. The content of the thesis is the surrealistic object and its reflection among the czech theorists. The first part of the thesis describes the problematic of surrealistic object and subject-objective relations in surrealism. Breton's philosophical approach is introduced, as well as his concept of object's crisis. The first part also outlines the meaning of found object, concept of convulsive beauty and Dali's paranoic-critical method as a source of surrealistic imagery. The second part of the thesis is focused on the reflection of surrealistic object presentation and on relations between arts and reality according to the concepts of Jan Mukařovský. The third part of the thesis is dedicated to conceptualization of aesthetics of Bohuslav Brouk in the light of surrealism. In this part the scope of Brouk's understanding of subject-objective relations is briefly described, as well his interpretation of surrealistic object.The last part of the thesis outlines the Teige's conception of surrealistic work in the terms of the sources of surrealistic imagination.
