České Budějovice struggles with unsuitable spaces for the Theatre and the Philharmonic. It is also confronted with urbanistic challenges of underused public spaces. This diploma thesis sets out to remedy these challenges and offer a possible solution through the design of Platform of live arts – opera and philharmonic halls at Mariánské náměstí. I approach this problematic area with an effort of creating a distinctive feature, that propagates new spatial relationships and changes the existing perception of space. The center of gravity, two performance halls, are placed in the utmost tip of the plot in confrontation with historical skyline of the old city. Counterweight of this expansive volume is a park, theatrical gardens at the opposite and. The idea is to preserve quality free space around which similar institutions might find their place in the future, thus creating a cultural oasis.

The diploma thesis Periodical Press in České Budějovice 1945 - 1948 focuses on the specifics of the development of periodicals published in České Budějovice in the post-war era from 1945 to 1948. The first part of the thesis deals with the changes in political, economic and cultural spheres in České Budějovice after World War II because it is significant context that influenced the organization and the structure of the national and regional press. For a systematic interpretation of the media situation the thesis captures the characteristics of the periodical press in České Budějovice published in the period between 1938 and 1945. The broadcasting of the radio station was very important during the last days of World War II, because it formed the basis of the regional editorial office of the Czechoslovak Radio. Therefore it was not possible to omit this topic. This diploma thesis studies the issue of spatiotemporal mobility of pensioners in the environment of the city of České Budějovice and its hinterland. This research uses a combination of two methods. The first method is a questionnaire survey in witch each respondent received two questionnaires. Journeys made were recorded into the first questionnaire and characteristics of respondents and their households into the second one. The second method uses GPS loggers to collect spatial data on mobility of people. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with concepts of time geography, mobility specifics of pensioners, the issue of retirement age in the Czechia and the potential use of modern geoinformation technologies for mobility research. The methodology part presents methodological procedures for evaluating the obtained data, criteria for selection of respondents and the process of research. Followed by evaluation of actual results of surveys and their interpretation with regard to sub-goals of this thesis. The content of this thesis is to evaluate the extensive artifact of the current file, obtained within the rescue archaeological research in the Prague suburb in České Budějovice in 1995. The thesis also summarizes the history of the settlement, the historical context of the establishment of the royal town České Budějovice, urbanism, information relating to the local suburb and the local pottery production, the circumstances of the archaeological research and the description of finding situations. The submitted thesis deals with South Bohemian cycle sport and its transformations between 1948 and 1989. It examines the development of individual clubs in České Budějovice, Tábor and Milevsko with regard to internal and external factors. Beside the club activities, it also focuses on cyclist´s everyday life in socialist Czechoslovakia and analyses the development of cycling equipment, training methods, eating habits and their effect on the performance of the cyclists. Another important factor the thesis investigates is compulsory military service as it played an important part in forming the cycle sport in socialist Czechoslovakia.

This thesis deals with the study of historiographical narrative sources of České Budějovice from the early modern period. Research is set in a European context. Especially in the German-speaking countries, a number of challenging studies have already emerged from which it is possible to draw suggestions and comparisons. Methodologically, the work is focused on the research of historical-anthropological issues, which could reveal the thought-world of burghers in the early modern period. However, the basis of the dissertation is a codicological analysis of the external and internal features of the manuscripts and their comparison. First, the thesis introduces individual sources, including biographies of scribes overlapping into the 19th century, then the research interest of historians in these sources is presented up to the present day. It is essential to identify the types of sources in which chronicle or memorial records can be found, and to determine the forms of their preservation. Emphasis is also placed on the authors and motivations that led them to create the chronicles. The aim of the analysis of thematic areas of records and their mutual comparison is to find out whether urban historiographical narrative sources could create urban identity and could form the image of the city. The main contribution of this work is to deepen the understanding of historiographical narrative sources of cities and to research of the thinking and action of early modern urban inhabitants. The work also deals with the comparison with other important writing centres in the 16th to 18th century and examines the impact of historical events and artistic and cultural directions on the form of these sources. Part of this work is a list of narrative sources for the history of České Budějovice from the early modern period, which can be used for better understanding the issue and could support further research on the city's history.

This thesis deals with the historical development of the city České Budějovice and some old maps of Bohemia edited in the period of 1518 - 1847. During data processing of these maps I compare the locations of some chosen South Bohemian cities of one old map with another and with their real location. The next part of the thesis is devoted to the way of displaying the city České Budějovice in each map. Used old maps: Claudian map (1518), Münster maps (1550, 1570), Ortelius map (17th century), Mercator map (17th century), Sadeler map (1620), Aretin map (1665), Vogt map (1712), Müller map (1720), Homman?s heritors map (18th century), Lotter map (1758), Schütz map (1790), Loth map (1847).

The diploma thesis is aimed at the development of the first Czech grammar school in České Budějovice during the years 1868 - 1918. It is based on a study of specialized literature and archival resources deposited in the State District Archives České Budějovice. The first part of the thesis deals with the general history of the primary and secondary education in the Czech lands and the South Bohemia. The second part is focused on the development of the grammar school in the period surveyed. The main target is both teaching and students. The analysis of the students includes not only their territorial and social origin but also their religion and length of studies. The final part of the thesis is concerned with the teachers of the grammar school.

Diploma work analyzes the development of suburbanization in settlements close to Česke Budějovice in the socialist and post-socialist period. Detailed focus is paid on the situation in the eastern sector of the background, the thesis compares the situation in the whole agglomeration of České Budějovice. It is based on statistical data of the number of residential population between 1950 - 2009, numeric data of permanently occupied houses in the periods, which were identified by field mapping, and also using statistical data on housing construction between 1997 - 2009. The architectural, urban, planning issues associated with suburbanization are also analyzed. Based on questionnaire survey among mayors of suburban municipalities it also monitors the migrant participation into suburban life in communities and relationships between migrants and indigenous peoples.

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of the cash machines accessibility in the area of České Budějovice. The accessibility is created by using GIS tools and is made by different methods in the different concentration of the cash machines in the specific urban areas of the city. The thesis is divided into three main chapters. The chapters in the beginning concern with the introduction, literature summary and theoretic part of the thesis. The final results were based on the theoretic part. In the methodology there are highlighted data collection, the work with GPS and mainly making space accessibility by using GIS tools. There are also described using methods which the final maps are made by. In the last and the most important chapter are the final results description, obtained data, maps creating and the summary of the space accessibility. Then there is in this part the recapitulation of the concentration, description and follows a summary of the bank machines location according to the urban areas in České Budějovice.
