Understanding the transgenerational orientation of family businesses: the role of family governance and business family identitySüss-Reyes, Julia 08 1900 (has links) (PDF)
The development of a transgenerational orientation is one of the most
significant challenges that family businesses face and only a small number actually
survive across generations. While prior research has focused on the business unit to
provide us with a solid understanding of how corporate governance affects business
performance and continuity, the role of the business family in the development of a
transgenerational orientation has received less attention. To address this gap, this
article applies a new systems and social identity theory framework to examine how
family governance and business family identity can contribute to strengthening the
transgenerational orientation of the business. A transgenerational orientation is
defined as a decision premise to maintain the family's control over the business
across generations. Using a large data set, findings show that the presence of family
governance measures and the business family's identity are positively related to a
transgenerational orientation of the business, with business family identity acting as
a mediator. Thus, the development of family governance measures can foster
communication within the business family and enhance the family members'
emotional investment in the business which strengthens the transgenerational orientation
in the business. (author's abstract)

Previous issue date: 2015-02-25 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The present work had as its aims: 1) to understand how time perception
influences the succession process in family business; 2) to comprehend how the
family myths affect the succession process in family business; 3) to perceive how
occurs the links in dimensional spaces along with the succession process in
family business. We adopted a qualitative investigation approach through case
study. The analysis is taken under the systemic perspective. Had participated of
this research: three family member of business family in its first generation; three
family member of business family in its second generation; three family member
of business family in its third generation with ages between 29 and 58 years
old, from both genders. We used the following methods: semi-structure
interviews, genogram and observation. The results show that the life cycle of both
- family and business, influences the way of thinking and planning succession.
We also identified the impact of the family myths on the succession process by
repetition of the preceded generation models or by adjusting and transforming
the myths according to the family, business and individual demands. The results
also indicate different types of space appropriation: through resistance to actions
or by innovations movements that embrace the symbolic identification with the
family business place. Suggestions for future research are presented and the
relevance of including the dimensional space in the family business area of
Participaram
proceder e planejar a sucessão. Foi possível também perceber que os mitos
familiares compõem significativamente o processo sucessório da empresa
familiar.

Previous issue date: 2015-08-24 / The multigenerational cycle of succession in family businesses has been the subject of concerns regarding the positioning of the founder. These concerns justify the realization of this dissertation considering the following questioning: in the passing of the baton, what is the viewpoint of the founder of the family business on the succession process? Drawing on perceptions of the founder on the succession process, the researcher attempts to identify how their lives are influenced by this process. In order to achieve these objectives, a qualitative research was carried out, with collective and instrumental case study outlining grounded in the Systemic Approach of the family, in the Three-Dimensional Developmental Model of Family Business, which seeks to differentiate the family relationships from the company context, as well as in the correlation of the business family‟s Development Model and the Family Life Cycle Model. Participating in this study were four family business founders invited by the researcher. The presented data was derived from the records of semi-structured interviews with the participants, as well as from the applied instruments: the Constructivist Genogram and the Family Timeline. Proceeding to the individual data analysis, the results marked the individual differences concerning the life story of each participant, and the viewpoint of each founder on the business succession process during the passing of the baton. The overlapping of the family life cycle and the business family life cycle, and their influence on their lives, were also identified in the analysis results. This study pointed towards the possibility of theoretical probing on the subject, in the Brazilian academic community, through scientific research, which may help comprehend the phenomenon of the founder in the succession process of the family business, in the passing of the baton, within the peculiarities of our country, Brazil / O ciclo multigeracional do processo de sucessão em empresas familiares tem sido objeto de preocupações a respeito do posicionamento do fundador.

Problematika malých rodinných firem na Příbramsku / Small family business issues in the region of PřibramRosinská, Elisabeta January 2021 (has links)
The dissertation deals with the issue of a family entrepreneurship. Family businesses play a key role in GDP production and employment in our country and worldwide, which makes them the backbone of the economy. However, they were overlooked as a topic for studying and research for a long time. Lately a number of authors started to look into them and even in the Czech Republic they were brought to attention. Two distinct systems mix in these businesses, each one oriented towards different goals. Family business's practices are therefore influenced by the meshing of a family system and a business system, which sets them apart from other types of entrepreneurships. This theses is focused on specifics of small family business in the Příbramsko region. A suitable concept for explaining a specific behavior of family businesses seems to be a so called socio-emotional wealth. One of the goals of this thesis is to evaluate the importance of individual components of the socio-emotional wealth with the help of semi- structured interviews. Small family businesses are mostly viewed in a positive way and relationships, trust, a personalized approach, a good reputation, happiness of all personnel involved and quality of products and services provided are vital for them. A big administrative load and acquiring...

Faktory ovlivňující výkonnost malých a středních rodinných podniků ve vinařském sektoru / Factors affecting the performance of small and medium-sized family business in the wine sectorMurínová, Anastasia January 2019 (has links)
Byly provedeny dva empirické výzkumy: kvalitativní a kvantitativní. Aplikací korelační a regresní analýzy výzkum pomohli zjistit vztahy mezi konkurenčními taktiky a výkonnosti rodinného podnikání obecně a taky vzhledem ke generační fáze vybraných vinařských rodinných firem v České republice.
