Becoming Children in the Reign of God: Encountering Triune God Shows Self-emptying and Self-giving as Keys to Wellbeing through Practicing Christ’s Model of a Charitable Life Order

Deschrijver, Stefaan January 2010 (has links)
Thesis advisor: John Randall Sachs / This essay describes, interprets, and proposes theological conversation and performance that can actualize the experience of our encounter with the Triune God and what we were able to learn thus far from this event in which the Trinity teaches us. The phenomenology of performing spiritual exercises in clinical pastoral care leads to a systematic theology for pastoral ministry. It integrates psychological and theological conscientization, transforming the participants through the self-emptying self-giving dynamism of radical love, even for the ‘enemy’. The love for God and neighbor provides a communal ecclesial space of encounter and conversation for all to share with the Spirit. Eucharist and Reconciliation offer the liturgical ritual confirmation of commitment to self-emptying self-giving, in imitation of Christ. As receivers of wellbeing from the Father who gives, we flourish, children in the reign of God. The ideas were developed in conversation with the letter to the Phillipians, the gospel of Luke, and first letter of John, the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola, and of Augustine of Hippo, with the theology of Jacques Haers, Bernard Lonergan, Karl Rahner and Paul Tillich, the psychology of Carl Jung, and the postmodern philosophy of Jaques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Emmanuael Levinas, Jean Luc Marion, and Paul Ricoeur. / Thesis (STL) — Boston College, 2010. / Submitted to: Boston College. School of Theology and Ministry. / Discipline: Sacred Theology.

The characteristics of preoperative blood tests and their costs at Dr George Mukhari Hospital

Nthwane, Keletso Adrinah January 2010 (has links)
Thesis (M. Med.(Anaesthesiology))--University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus), 2010. / In surgical practice, preoperative testing involves a certain number of routine tests, among them chest X-rays, electrocardiography, urine analysis and blood tests. This study sought to characterize routine preoperative blood tests performed at DGMH. This was a descriptive cross-sectional prospective study of preoperative blood tests conducted at the Medical Laboratory of DGMH. Patient files and their laboratory reports of tests performed during a 2-month period were examined for the extraction and collation of data. Of the 246 patients’ records included in the analysis, there were 130 male and 116 female patients but the distribution differed based on the age, since in female patients, the majority of them were older than 40 years. The main findings were that the most commonly done tests at DGMH are hemoglobin, FBC electrolytes, creatinine, glucose and partial prothrombin test. The average number of tests per patient was 3 and their cost on average was R224 per patient. The results of these tests impacted on the management of patients in that 11.4% of elective surgeries were postponed. The tests that were associated with postponement were low values of HB. In conclusion, hemoglobin was the common laboratory test and the only one that had significant impact as it led to the postponement of planned surgical procedures. This test may be recommended for routine testing before surgical operations.

A centimeter tall : a perilous journey of growing up and aging out of Texas foster care / Perilous journey of growing up and aging out of Texas foster care

Wolf, Lauren Elizabeth 15 August 2012 (has links)
Ashley Gallardo was raised in an abusive home from which she was removed and put into the Texas foster care system. There, she grew up and aged out at 18 having experienced six years of moving from foster home to foster home, being separated from her brothers and living a life that showed her little consistency or love. Ashley experienced major issues with the Texas foster care system that the Department of Family and Protective Services has long been working to address. Gaining access to her Child Protective Service case file gave her a peak into her past as she now actively advocates for a better foster care system. Her story is a journey that shows the inadequacies in Texas foster care and the efforts being made by DFPS to improve the system whilst the state faces a class action lawsuit filed against the child welfare system. / text
