This diploma thesis is concerned with improving the mechanical properties of aluminium castings produced using investment casting technology by HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing). Comparing the mechanical properties of separately casted test bars and integrally casted test bars for individual types of production. It was demonstrated that HIP technology has a positive effect on mechanical properties of castings, especially for ductility.

The topic of this thesis is the formation of microporosity in cast test bars of nickel-base superalloy Inconel 713LC during solidification. The theoretical part consists of nickel alloys, their macrostructure, the method of casting and crystallization of nickel-based superalloys. The second part is devoted to the design of casting conditions, the production of shell molds, the size and shape of grains, evaluation of microporosity by various available methods, comparing the influence of grain size and the proportion of microporosity on the resulting values of the mechanical tests. Experiments were carried out in cooperation with PBS Velká Bíteš and ÚST foundry department.

Aim of the diploma thesis is to design intake ducting with variable cross-section for 16V diesel engine consisting from divided intake manifold and divided ejector. Cross-section variability is ensured by a swirl flap placed in the divided ejector. Next aim of thesis is to provide drawing documentation for production of samples. For designing was used PTC Creo system and software GeomCaliper. Also was taken account of manufacturing of the parts with sand-casting, especially to guarantee trouble-free taking out of models from the moulds, and taking out of cores from core moulds, and also for machinability of some elements. Introduction of thesis is focused on diesel engine emissions and ways of their reduction.

The thesis continue thematically in the previous development of the wax mixtures for the company Fimes. The general description of the investment casting process from the production of the die to casting of the wax pattern is handled in the first part. It is followed by the summary of the previously carried out experiments on cracking the shells. The experimental part describes the individual operations from the production of tested wax patterns to casting in the Boilercláv. The newly developed wax mixture is compared to the wax mixture used by the company Fimes. The experiments focus on the possibility of cracking the shells during the casting process and the dimensional stability of wax mixtures.

The theoretical part is focused on basic information about cast iron and its production, structure and mechanical properties. Another part of this thesis describes the defects of castings and options for non-destructive testing of cast iron castings. In the experimental part are analyzed three sorts of defective casting. Castings for testing were provided by JMA s.r.o. foundry. The summary contains tests results and proposals for optimization of production.

The second part compares the video recording of filling the wax-ceramic mixture to the die-casting mold and simulation of the same process created in a simulation software Cadmould 3D-F.

Production of wax pattern model by injection machine is a one of the key phases of Investment casting process. The thesis deals with the development of numerical simulation wax blend injection in to metal die. The possibilities of selection simulation software – ProCast and Cadmould are described in the relation to numerical predictions of wax injection. Creating of material database of selected wax blends is described. The prototype simulations of die filling are made. The special testing die are designed a used for created simulations. The measurements of initial conditions are mentioned.
