Posouzení odtokových poměrů na toku ve správě Povodí Moravy, s.p. / Assessment of runoff conditions on the river in the Morava River Basin

The aim of the diploma thesis was to assess the curent state of the Svratka river and propose appropriate measures in accordance with the plans of Povodí Moravy, s.p. Locality of interest is located in the built-up area and non-urban area part of Herálec at river kilometer 163,9809-164,5189 and extends over the cadastral areas of Český Herálec, Herálec na Moravě and Svratka. The assessment of the river was performed on the flow series using the 1D mathematical model HEC – RAS version 5.0.6. On the basis of the results of the flow rate, was the locality od interest divided into four parts. For parts which are located in the urban, was designed a flood protection against of the 20 – year flow. For parts which are located in the non-urban area, was designed revitalization with the possibility of water retention in the landscape. The final design was verified by calculation in the same program HEC – RAS. The diploma thesis contains text part, calculation part and drawing part documenting the proposed measures.

Hydrologic Aspects of Land-Use Planning at Tumamoc Hill, Tucson, Arizona

From the Proceedings of the 1974 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Assn. and the Hydrology Section - Arizona Academy of Science - April 19-20, 1974, Flagstaff, Arizona / Tumamoc Hill, an 869-acre (352 ha) desert area near Tucson, Arizona, is being considered as a controlled- access environmental site. Water affects the site's geology, soils, vegetation, wildlife, and archaeology. The Hill is drained by three small watersheds. The largest is rapidly urbanizing upstream. Hydrologic aspects include potential flooding and erosion hazards. These may be reduced simply, economically, and wisely in a land-use plan. Upstream development increases storm runoff volumes, and flood peaks, and frequencies routed through the site, and threatens existing downstream urban development. Return periods of channel-overflow floods become shorter with urbanization. The region may be managed to reduce hydrologic hazards by three procedures: widen channels, install low checkdams, and vegetate drainageways. These methods will slow down runoff velocities, and increase cross -sectional area of flow and roughness coefficient. More water would also be available for vegetation and wildlife. The land-use plan should include environmental education programs. These would present important effects of water on the natural ecology, and hydrologic aspects of watershed urbanization.

Návrh opatření na horním toku Svratky / Proposal measures at upper reaches Svratka River

The diploma thesis deals with the proposal of measures on the Svratka stream in the cadastral area Český Herálec and Herálec na Moravě. The aim of the diploma thesis is to propose appropriate flood protection in the Herálec urban area and to elaborate proposals of nature friendly measures outside the municipality’s built up area, which will enable the renewal of the ecological functions of Svratka in the spring area. In the diploma thesis the assessment of the current state of the watercourse in the analyzed locality was caried out and also the assessment of the capacity of the watercourse and the objects on there. Furthermore, the flood levels and its areas were determined. Hydraulic water flow calculations were performed using the 1D and 1D/2D numerical model. For calculation, HEC-RAS 5.0.3 was used. When processing a 1D/2D numerical model, a manual describing the progress of work in the HEC-RAS 5.0.3 program was also created. On the basis of the results from the numerical model, a proposal for flood protection measures in the urban area and nature friendly measures in the extravilan was carried out.
