Character Influence and Brand Relationships: How Morally Ambiguous Characters Shape Brand Identity?

This study examines morally ambiguous characters in television dramas and they represent their respect brand. The goal of the study is to examine how these MACs define their respective brands, specifically the brands, AMC and Showtime. Recent studies observed people chose brands based on their affective disposition and social cognition towards specific influencers. These theories could inform how people relate to characters from TV shows and brands. An observation and narrative analysis of four characters promotional videos from AMC were Don Draper (Mad Men), Saul Goodman (Better Call Saul) and from Showtime Jackie Peyton (Nurse Jackie) and Dexter Morgan (Dexter). Interviews were conducted with 13 people about their views of the character's moral ambiguity and brand interest. Promo videos were observed along with videos of characters in their environment. Results found MACs defined their brand and their overall character arc appealed to the audience's interests in their brands.

Vliv ženských postav na postavy mužské v díle Pierra Corneille / The Influence of Female Characters on Male Characters in the Work of Pierre Corneille

This master's thesis analyses the influence of female characters on male characters in the work of P. Corneille, partly in relation to the evolution of Doubrovsky's cornelian heroism, whose theory it extends. The research concerns the plays Mélite, Médée and The Cid. The definition of the female influence continues through characterizing female characters in their relationship with male characters. Concerning the male characters, the thesis shows the female effect and the males' reactions to it. Here we can see the first traits of cornelian heroism. The female characters cause the male characters to suffer. The first reason for this is the desire of the male characters. The second reason lies in the overall weakness or, paradoxically, in the strength of their character. The male characters also have something else in common - a desire for revenge. A woman weakens the male hero, making him a slave to her will. So, the hero learns how to repel her strength. In the end, only his heroic ambitions influence him. The woman then only motivates him. The plays Mélite and Médée have not been translated into Czech yet. Therefore, this thesis extends the Czech reader's general knowledge and opens up new possibilities to approaching Corneille's work.

Food, fantasy, and the spectacle: the role of food and illusion at the wizarding world of harry potter

Each year over 300 million people visit theme parks, making them the major vacation destination worldwide. Theme parks are known for their elaborate spectacle, the creation of artificial realities through intricate immersive experiences including costumed characters, stage shows, and extravagant decor. Though many aspects of the theme park experience have been reviewed, little focus has been given to the role of food in the overall immersion, particularly how food extends the spectacle into a fantastical created reality. This study examined the function of food within a highly immersive theme park setting, and how it contributed to the overall illusion and immersion of the fantasy environment. Research was conducted from December 2014 to March 2015 at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando Resort themed food served three overarching functions: (1) it operated as an experience, (2) it functioned as a conduit to authenticity, and, (3) it extended sensory perceptions. Food immersed tourists in the themed experience, though visual cues remained the primary sensory stimulus. However, guests considered the location to be more authentic when coupled with a themed food item, as opposed to the generic food choices found in other parks.
