Radio and corporate worship in the Philippines

Lung, Thomas W. January 1962 (has links)
Thesis (M.A.)--Boston University / The Problem: The problem of this study is to determine i£ it is possible to mediate the leadership of corporate worship by means of a radio broadcast. The Protestant churches in the Philippines are faced with a major problem in the form of a shortage of trained ministers. Such a shortage has resulted in the withering away of membership in the local communities and a loss of some congregations to the small sect groups which have come into the Phi1ippinea in large numbers since the end of World War II. The Protestant churches related to the Phi1ippine Federation of Christian Churches have their own religious, educational, non-commercial radio station, Station DYCR. Being located on the campus of the o1deat Evangelical university in the country, the radio station has access to well trained leadership. The staff of the station believes that the radio facilities cou1d provide a partial solution to the present lack of trained 1eadership for many of the congregations [TRUNCATED]

The Religious Right: A Study in American Religious Fundamentalism

Ferris, Thomas John 08 1900 (has links)
Conservatism in America declined during the 1930's, then in the post-war years began to revive in what has been termed a "wonder"l and the most surprising development of the post-war period. Yet an even more surprising development has been the re-emergence of an important American phenomenon within conservatism: the far right.3 Far right activities gained national attention during the McCarthy era, and again in 1960 as a result of the controversy over the Air Reserve Center Training Manual, the San Francisco student riots against the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), the possibility of a young liberal Roman Catholic's becoming president of the United States, and the alarm that President Eisenhower would soon retire from public life.

Pravoslaví v Austrálii, Oceánii a Antarktidě / Orthodoxy in Australia, Oceania and Antarctica

Drda, Vratislav January 2011 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Orthodoxy in Australia, Oceania and Antarctica" deals with the history, evolution and current state of religious structures of Eastern christian churches in Australia, Oceania and Antarctica. Each part of the investigated area has been analyzed in terms of the ethnic or. ecclesiological diaspora, its organizational capture (formation of the first parishes, dioceses, monasteries, schools and charitable organizations etc.) and on their current status (size and functionality of the existing church structure). Following the various jurisdictions and churches are described. A fundamental consideration is given to the canonical Orthodox Churches, then to the Orthodox Churches with less problematic canonical status, but there are also other Eastern Christian churches mentioned. Within the area the eminent figures of church life are closer described. This descriptive material is supplemented by interviews and journalistic texts, which further analyze situation of churches in the region and their various problems. It is also accompanied by photographic material. The thesis tries to describe ecclesiological tensions between the diaspora and mission, the diversity of ethnic and religious minorities and differences in their assimilation in the new religious, social and culture environment.
