The period studied is limited by the economic changes of the city after the 1929 crisis, which contributed to the construction of the building and the beginning of preservationists measures in the city of Ribeir?o Preto, dating from the 1990s. We defend that over these six decades the city has conformed itself based on three different ideal cities: First "the modernist city", second, the city of the crisis of modernism, and third, the contemporary city. Correlate to these "towns" there are three symbolic seizures of the building by the society of Ribeir?o Preto: First, the building as synonymous of progress; second, the building as something obsolete; and third, as part of the city's memory. / Este trabalho ? um estudo sobre a rela??o dial?tica entre arquitetura e urbanismo, sendo o estudo de caso, o Edif?cio Diederichsen localizado na cidade de Ribeir?o Preto. O per?odo de estudo ? delimitado pela mudan?a economica da cidade ap?s a crise de 1929, que contribuiu para a constru??o do edif?cio e o in?cio de medidas preservacionistas na cidade de Ribeir?o Preto, datada da d?cada de 1990. Defendemos, que ao longo dessas seis d?cadas, a cidade se conformou baseada em tr?s ideais diferentes de cidade: a primeira a cidade modernista ; a segunda, a cidade da crise do modernismo; e a terceira, a cidade contempor?nea. Correlato ? essas cidades temos tr?s apreens?es simb?licas do Edif?cio por parte da sociedade de Ribeir?o Preto: Primeira, o pr?dio como sinonimo de progresso; segunda, o pr?dio como sendo algo obsoleto; terceiro, como mem?ria da cidade.
