SURVEY AND TROPHIC GROUPS OF GROUND BEETLES (COLEOPTERA) IN SERGIPE: importance of Coleoptera as indicators of forest recovering process.

Sampaio, Josenilton Alves 02 August 2010 (has links)
This research reports the data on nine ground beetle families and their trophic groups surveyed, in the municipality of Laranjeiras (10º48'23"S and 37º10'12"O), Sergipe. Specifically where investigated the family beetle richness and abundance in managed and restoring environments; characterize their trophic groups among the phytofisionomies; and infer about the environmental conditions in the sites. This work deals with data on nine Coleoptera families collected from January to September 2008 using pitfall traps, in four agroecosystems named Atlantic forest fragment (FMT), 1-year reforesting system (ZRI) and 2-year reforesting system (ZR II) and grazing (PST). Dominance, richness, abundance, diversity and equitability indices were analyzed at family level. According to richness, the agroecosystems can be ranked as PST and ZR II (both with seven families), ZR I (with six families) and FMT (with five families). However, the sites strongly superpose in relation to family composition. When it comes to morph-species number the sequence of areas in decreasing order was: FMT, ZR I, ZR II and PST. The greatest abundance was found at FMT representing nearly twice the number of the others and, among these, the grazing area was the less abundant. The pattern of richness and abundance found are influenced by community structure, which was clearly structured by Scarabaeidae dominance in FMT. For this survey, pitfall location at the forest fragment edge may have influenced on the richness sampled. The richest and most abundant family was Scarabaeidae with 51 morph-species and 431 individuals, and was dominant at all sites. The diversity indices for the agroecosystems studied, allow us grouping them as follow: ZRII, PST, ZR I e FMT. Consequently, equitability presented inversed tendency, so can be grouped in the following order ZR II, ZR I, PST and FMT. Despite of that, family abundance was equitativelly distributed for all sites, leading to higher diversity, except for FMT. Family level analyses allow making important inferences about ground beetles, and are useful to evaluate environmental quality. The data suggest that reforesting areas are more similar to grazing area than to forest fragment, considering the pattern of abundance and richness of the analyzed Coleoptera families. So, ground beetle can indicate environmental quality, especially Scarabaeidae since abundance pattern was sensible to environmental conditions.

CORREIA, Ruy Guilherme January 2018 (has links)
The forest ecosystems, their vegetal compositions and different forms of management present in the soil entomofauna the fundamental elements for its functioning, so that the knowledge of these communities is important for the perspectives of sustainable management of forest ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla King). For the enrichment of the knowledge of the entomofauna associated to the Brazilian mahogany in the eastern Amazon and considering the importance of research on entomofauna in forest plantations mainly in reforestation ecosystems, it is intended to answer the following questions: How is entomological diversity distributed and what is its contribution in the different forest ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany ?. The diversity of families of the order Coleoptera is influenced by climatic factors and different floristic compositions in forest plantations with Brazilian mahogany ?. For both questions the respective hypotheses were elaborated: The edaphic entomofauna can be influenced by the floristic composition and the climatic variations in the three ecosystems studied with Brazilian mahogany. The orders Hymenoptera, Isoptera and Coleoptera are the most abundant in the three ecosystems. Coleopteran families are more abundant in diverse forest ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany. Studies on the dynamics and storage of litter in plantations of native species, such as mahogany in the Amazon, are necessary and often poorly understood. In this sense, it was necessary to study the litter storage in ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany. This research was divided into three chapters, where the first one sought to know the influence of climatic factors on edaphic entomofauna, the second was to know the diversity of Coleoptera in mahogany plantations and the third was to study the litter storage in three forest ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany This research took place during two years in forest plantations belonging to Empresa Tramontina, located in the municipality of Aurora do Pará-PA, Eastern Amazon. The results presented were: The edaphic entomofauna associated to reforestation ecosystems with Brazilian mahogany has high wealth and abundance of orders and families. Seasonality favors the greatest abundance of insects in the rainy season. The order Hymenoptera is the richest highlighting the family Formicidae, followed by Isoptera and Coleoptera, these groups of insects predominated over the others both in the rainy season and in the dry season. There is specificity of the order Hymenoptera (family: Formicidae) in relation to the enriched forest ecosystem. The Coleopterofauna associated with the forest ecosystems of Swietenia macrophylla is diverse. Consortium and enriched forest ecosystems presented maller family diversity. The enriched forest ecosystem presented greater wealth and dominance. There was influence of seasonality in relation to the diversity of coleoptera families collected, which favored an increase in the diversity of insects collected during the rainy season. The litter production, decomposition rate and renewal time of Brazilian mahogany were low and showed no difference between study environments.
