Praha - Besançon Rudolf II. a sbírka rodiny De Granvelle / Prague - Besançon Rudolf II and the de Granvelle family Collection

Ježková, Markéta January 2018 (has links)
Praha -Besançon Rudolf II. a sbírka rodiny de Granvelle Předložená práce se věnuje části sbírky rodiny de Granvelle, kterou mezi léty 1589-1601 postupně získal císař Rudolf II. Na pozadí historických událostí rodina de Granvelle během čtyř generací zažila strmý společenský vzestup i pád. Nicolas a jeho syn Antoine de Granvelle zastávali významné funkce na dvoře Karla V. a později Filipa II. Během této doby dokázali vybudovat jednu z největších a nejkvalitnějších sbírek 16. století, zároveň však byli svědky jejího rozprášení během nizozemské revoluce a postupného rozprodeje v prvních desetiletích 17. století. V současné době jsou známé pouze dvě hlavní cesty rozprodeje sbírky. Větší z částí se podařilo zachovat v Besançonu. Počtem, nikoli však významem, menší část se dostala do sbírek císaře Rudolfa II. v Praze a následně sdílela další osudy sbírek Pražského hradu. Předkládaná práce v první části podává kritický přehled dosavadní literatury věnované dané části sbírky požadované Rudolfem II. Pro českého čtenáře většinou není dostupná ani většina historicky orientovaných textů o členech rodiny, následuje proto stručný přehled jejího vzestupu, pádu a mecenariátu. Zároveň se představuje kontext, v jakém sbírka vznikala. Ústředním bodem práce je kapitola věnovaná příběhu Rudolfovy postupné akvizice....

Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering / Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering

Libič, Peter January 2015 (has links)
Title Garbage Collection in Software Performance Engineering Author Peter Libič peter.libic@d3s.mff.cuni.cz Advisor doc. Ing. Petr Tůma, Dr. petr.tuma@d3s.mff.cuni.cz Department Department of Distributed and Dependable Systems Faculty of Mathematics and Physics Charles University Malostranské nám. 25, 118 00 Prague, Czech Republic Abstract The increasing popularity of languages with automatic memory management makes the garbage collector (GC) performance key to effective application execution. Unfortunately, performance behavior of contemporary GC is not well understood by the application developers and often ignored by the per- formance model designers. In this thesis, we (1) evaluate nature of GC overhead with respect to its effect on accuracy of performance models. We assess the possibility to model GC overhead as a black-box and identify workload characteristics that contribute to GC performance. Then we (2) design an analytical model of one-generation collector and a simulation model of both one-generation and two-generation collectors. These models rely on application characteristics. We evaluate the accuracy of such models and perform an analysis of their sensitivity to the inputs. Using the model we expose the gap between under- standing the GC overhead based on knowing the algorithm...

Curiosidad Barroca: La Colección en la Cultura Literaria Hispanoamericana Virreinal y Contemporánea

Portugal, Luis 11 July 2013 (has links)
My main thesis is that Baroque can be considered not only as an aesthetic or historical period in the seventeenth century; it is also a way of producing knowledge that puts into dynamic interaction diverse genres, disciplines and historical contexts. I visualize my project under the rubric of a cabinet of curiosities, and I reframe the continued juxtaposition of objects, machines, instruments and artwork that characterize the baroque cabinet to offer an explanatory construct of the early modern Hispanic world and modern Latin American literature and culture. In the first chapter of the dissertation, I contextualize the extensive theoretical discussion on Baroque and Neo-baroque within the studies of collection and curiosity. My main goal with this approach is to create a specific bibliography and understanding of Baroque as a complex process of collecting and displaying different kinds of knowledge through emotions such as wonder and marvel. In the second chapter I examine the impact of the New World on the stable "tower of knowledge" of humanists at the end of the fifteenth and the beginning of the sixteenth centuries. One definitive consequence of this impact was the questioning of the liabilities of ancient text and the need to arrange the new information, which was coming from different resources, into collections of distant and peculiar objects. Expanding this historical frame, I analyze how letrados in the seventeenth century, such as Favián, Sigüenza y Góngora, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Espinoza Medrano, and Arzans Orsúa, were displaying the New World as the biggest collection of curiosities as a way of constructing an emergent criollo subjectivity. After grounding the project in the theoretical and colonial Baroque, my study turns, in the third chapter, to the modern Neo-baroque. I argue that modernity in Latin America is generated by the assimilation of the Enlightenment into a Baroque system. Therefore, Baroque in Latin America represents more than a simple or "erroneous" copy; it is rather a process of "cannibalization" and counterconquest, as José Lezama Lima proclaimed in his literary essay "Baroque Curiosity" (1957). This dissertation is written in Spanish. / 2015-07-11

A Catalog of Extinctions

Casey, Edward Anthony 12 1900 (has links)
The preface describes the construction of a book-length, interwoven sequence of poems. This type of sequence differs from other types of poetry collections in its use of an overarching narrative, repeated images, and recurring characters. Three interwoven sequences are used as examples of how to construct such a sequence.

INFÖRANDET AV MATAVFALLSINSAMLING : Utmaningarna med matavfallsinsamling bland Sveriges kommuner / The challenges of implementing food waste collection within Sweden’s municipalities.

Höglund, Arvid January 2022 (has links)
Food has a substantial impact on climate change and the environment, to reduce the impact, the Europe Union has decided that all countries should start collecting food waste from the 1stof January 2024. In Sweden there are 30 out of 290 municipalities that doesn’t collect any food waste generated by households. This paper is set to examine what obstacles these municipalities are facing and what methods they should be using while implementing their food waste collection system. The method for determining what obstacles the municipality face was through a survey sent out to the 30 municipalities who hasn’t yet implemented the system inquiring what obstacles they were facing. To identify which methods should be used while implementing their system, five municipalities who already are collecting food waste was interviewed about which methods was effective for them and what wasn’t. The study showed that economical and logistical problems in different varieties was the most frequent issue, the source of the issues was most commonly the low-density population and large area within the municipality. The issues rendered the purpose of collecting the food waste unnecessary as well as putting substantial financial strain on the municipality. The most effective methods to manage these issues were: cooperation between municipalities, tailored collection systems with special vehicles and food waste containers along with a satisfactory communication to the households. Most municipalities predict a higher fee for the households, furthermore they find that the changing directive from the government makes it hard to plan.

The use of well log data in the creation of 3D geological maps

Ile, Charlene Omeniem Keletso January 2021 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / Three-dimensional (3D) graphic representations of geographic environments have become commonplace in a range of elds. These representations are often an attempt to represent both geographic forms, as well as the relationships that exist between them. In contrast to other elds, the use of 3D geological models in the visualisation of the subsurface environment is relatively new. Additionally, these 3D geological models are traditionally created through the painstaking process of manual development methods. As such, the models developed are unable to fully utilise the wealth of geological data that is collected during subsurface exploration. Therefore, the objective of this research was to create a 3D geological prototype that allowed for the visualisation of underground resource reservoirs in a faster, easier and more aesthetically appealing manner. To achieve the objectives of this research, the problem was tackled holistically by considering both the theoretical and practical components of the research. Some theoretical components that were considered are: well log wireline log data composition, the information that can be extracted from each well log component, geological data interpolation as well as geological visualisation. Utilisation of the theoretical component of this research facilitated the development of a programme that modelled and visualised sub-surface environments. The programme applied the information from numerous well log datasets and interpolated the various geological layers that could be found within a region.
