La Poesía Lírica ColombianaOrjuela, Héctor H. 08 1900 (has links)
In this work, superficial to the extreme, it is my purpose to offer a review of the development of lyric poetry ("poesía lírica") in Colombia throughout its history. It is logical that because of the extent of the subject it is not possible to give a complete treatment of our political history, though I have tried not to leave out points of significance. The classification of authors and of poems, as well as the division of periods I have made arbitrarily, guided by my own criteria. Thus, I have the Romantic period divided into romanticism and post-romanticism, according to the dates generally regarded as the beginning and end of these two literary movements. In reality, romanticism only ended with the beginning of modernism, and one cannot therefore distinguish romantic poets from post-romantic poets. Due to the nature of this thesis, many poets--some of them well known--will not be mentioned. However, my intention is not to write a lyric anthology, but to reveal the spirit of Columbia through her poets and her poetry.

This study examines the complex relationships between poetry and eroticism that have emerged in the Colombian poetry throughout a historical journey that goes from José Asunción Silva’s poetry (late nineteenth century) to the poetry of the group Mito, during the decade of 50s in the twentieth century. This research and analytical work shows that a tradition of the erotic in the Colombian poetry can be observed, in which eroticism, as a sensitive subject, has permeated the poetics of various groups –modernists, Piedracielistas, and Mito– as well as some of the most important Colombian authors such as Silva, Porfirio Barba Jacob, Luis Carlos López, and León de Greiff.

“León de Greiff y la tradición literaria” examines the particular concept of “tradition” underlying the work of this major XXth century Colombian poet. I contend that the appropriation of several literary and historical sources – ranging from medieval European literature, oriental sources, to the most symbolists French poets – undertaken by De Greiff challenges the classical notion of this idea. I have proposed a reading of this author’s poetry as an attempt to observe tradition as an unrestricted space of individual creation operating through aesthetic and philosophical affinities rather than strict chronological continuity. The theorical approach of my dissertation focuses on the works of Harold Bloom, T.S. Eliot and Octavio Paz. Based on their ideas I have tried to elaborate an alternative definition of the concept of Tradition.

This dissertation approaches the poetic work of Colombian poet Marta Quiñónez, who currently lives in Medelin, which has been published to date, consisting of the following volumes: Noctívago (1998), Acantilado (1999), Abecedário de Eximición (2000), Eva (2001), Kartalá (2002), La Trinidad (2005), Arcanos (2007), No. Libro de haripalas (2010), Dame tu canto ciudad (2012), Conversaciones en Comala (2012), Paréntesis (2013), El rostro del pan (2014) and Continente Mohíno (2016), originally published in 1996. The work focuses on four main axes: diaspora, migration, territory and home, in dialogue with the themes of love, affectivity, territorialization/deterritorialization in urban centers, and the house, bypassing gender and racial discussions in the division of geographic and social spaces. We discuss how this homosexual black female body and subjectivity reconfigures itself for the subjective construction of its home, considering the experience of deterritorialization and migration, taking the poem as the reterritorializing force that elevates the notions of belonging and connection to its own poetic creation as main catalyst of her experiences. We go through all her work in a certain thematic chronology, beginning with Continente Mohíno (1996) until El rostro del pan (2014), whose main objective is to understand the relation established between her poetic writing and the contemporary diaspora imaginary and migratory flows, concerning territories and the subjective construction of home. The versatility and creativity of her poetry is blatant for her own life course of movement and uprooting, which converge to a literature capable of sheltering her experiences beyond the historical and social reductions of the homosexual black woman's place in literature and society.
