Problematika intermodálního propojení ČR s námořními přístavy / The issue of intermodal transport connection between Czech Republic and the seaports

Procházková, Markéta January 2010 (has links)
The subject of the thesis is the analysis of the intermodal connection between Czech Republic and the seaports. The importance of this connection for the Czech Republic as for an open economy with a large volume of international trade is undervalued. The connection between Czech Republic and the ports is mainly provided by the container combined transport road -- rail. It is necessary to pay attention to the development of this field as it has a potential to be the most effective way of transport considering both economical and environmental criteria. The aim of the thesis is to survey the issue of intermodal connection with the ports, to evaluate the current status and future development options, including the barriers to this development. The result of the thesis is an analyzed current situation: the ports to which Czech Republic is connected have been determined as well as the modes of transport and the key players on the Czech market that provide the shipping services to the ports. A significant part of attention is paid to METRANS, a.s. which is the leading provider of intermodal transport services between Czech republic and the ports. A major problem associated with the development of combined transport is the harmonization of the conditions between road and rail transport. There is one chapter of the thesis which is devoted to this issue. Thanks to the information obtained from companies operating in the intermodal transport business, it was possible to calculate the costs related to the transport of the consignment by road and rail route, to highlight the problems in the daily operation of combined transport, to identify the weaknesses that may hinder the development of the METRANS or to bring other real outcomes.

Antoniazzi, Federico 25 November 2011 (has links)
The promotion of railway modal share has large benefits on the environment by reducing the modal share of road transport, which is responsible for about one-fourth of European CO2 emissions. The aim of this dissertation is to analyse freight transport flows in order to provide operational solutions to increase the modal share of railways transport through a better use of intermodal terminals. In the first part of the dissertation a theoretical survey of freight transport models is provided, in order to show the linkage between freight transport and economic activities. A comprehensive analysis of data sources at European, national and regional levels is also provided. In the second part of the dissertation an application to the case of railway intermodal terminals in France is provided, with some comparisons to other European countries. The scope of the analysis is to estimate the potential demand of combined transport, to assess the productivity of intermodal terminals and to evaluate the socio-economic and financial impact of new investments in terminals, also through new project financing schemes (PPPs). The results show a large potential for railway intermodal transport, especially in connection with maritime ports, and low productivity in existing terminals. As a consequence it’s fundamental to concentrate new investments in a few high potential locations, in order to attract private investments and to provide a better use of public funds. The policy implications of this analysis are multiple: it concerns first the railway companies and the infrastructure managers, which should better plan their investments according to commercial needs. It concerns also governments and regional authorities which should better concentrate public funds on optimal terminal locations.

Potenciál veřejných logistických center v železniční dopravě v ČR / Potential of public logistics centres in rail transport in the Czech Republic

Svatoň, Ondřej January 2017 (has links)
In times when capacities of roads are starting to run out, it is necessary to search for any alternatives with environmental protection in mind. One of the options is to move some of the road freight transport to railways. One of the possible ways to achieve it is by using Public logistics centres. This concept is already in use in Western Europe and the demand for building terminals of combined transport is growing in the Czech Republic as well. The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the potential of PLC and its influence on the regional development based on information from other countries. In the thesis, theoretical aspects of infrastructure investment and predicted effects of localization into targeted regions are assessed. Outcomes of this research are weaknesses and suggestions for potential implementation of this concept in the Czech Republic.
